Local notes
Horn Book Guide, 02/28/1997
Fiction: NF Age: 4-6 Making use of both written and oral sources, Aldana juxtaposes two groups of tales from Mexico, Central America, and South America -- seven Native stories and seven Latin ones. Garay's art builds on the imagery in the tales, and meticulous crosshatching lends volume and texture to the figures in the carefully planned compositions. Source notes are included but are tantalizingly brief. Horn Rating: Superior, well above average.
