These short stories were written from 1917-1940 and were mostly written about people who did not fit in to what society thought appropriate regarding behavior. Most were written by people who had a fairly comfortable or very comfortable life and did not always understand what "others" experience.

However, those who did realize the challenges faced by many wrote very moving stories, many of which have always been and still are relevant, sadly.

Stories for young readers in an eclectic collection. The reader is engaged by all of the stories, including some favorites and lesser-known ones. An enjoyable introduction to the genre of short stories.
