A play about a 26 year old deaf woman who refuses to speak from fear of how she might sound to others. The new teacher, James, at the deaf school where she is a maid, falls in love with and tries to change her stubborness. This is a difficult book to read because every word and sentence Sarah

speaks is repeated by James. She is deaf and he is hearing. It becomes quite repetitive and hard to follow. However, it may be good for a play for older high schoolers due to some sexual references.

This is a great play that really gets into the dynamics of deaf-hearing relationships. This play is also a good example of the culturally Deaf view of oralism. I loved the emotion of the charcters.
