This book combines two of my favorite things, environmental activism and mysteries. And I feel that it did so seamlessly.

I am sure you are sitting here looking at the names of the authors and thinking back a few years trying to remember if you are reading the name correctly. Yes, this book was
Show More
cowritten by Erin Brockovich. The same Erin Brockovich that was played by Julia Roberts.

Erin teams up with mystery & suspense author CJ Lyons for a gripping tale of what can happen when you are up against those who are out to strip the Earth for all she is worth.

Just like in all of CJ’s other novels, the characters are incredible. I immediately loved AJ and her son, David.

From what I read about this book, this is the first in a series. I can’t wait until more books come out!

In conjunction with the Wakela's World Disclosure Statement, I received a product in order to enable my review. No other compensation has been received. My statements are an honest account of my experience with the brand. The opinions stated here are mine alone.

Rock Bottomis the debut novel from Erin Brokovich (with help from C.J. Lyons). Yes, this is the same Erin Brokovich played by Julia Roberts in the movie.

I seem to be picking up cliche novels like that's all that's out there, lately. This story had a lot of potential, but the writers used the trite
Show More
and true, instead of going for something more original.

A.J. Palladino left her hometown of Scotia, WV when she was 17 years old and pregnant. She makes a life for herself and her son, but when a media disaster forces her to leave her radio host job, she goes home for a job assisting a local lawyer. Unfortunately, the lawyer is dead and being funeralized on the day she arrives. The lawyer's daughter, who is also a lawyer, decides to stay and take on her father's case with C.J.'s help.

This is the second novel I've read about the environmental dangers and ease of mountain top removal versus traditional coal mining. This one was very preachy.

Other than C.J. and her special needs son, the characters are one dimensional. If they are good, they are all good. If they are bad, they are baaaaaad. A lot of them are just stupid. They take what anybody tells them at face value, no questions asked. That's the only way the plot would work. The cliches and awkward analogies made me rewind the CD more than once. The wording got in the way of the storytelling.

A bit too melodramatic for my tastes but interesting enough to keep me reading. I very much liked the strong women characters and especially liked the strength of the son who has cerebral palsy. He's very well drawn.

I enjoyed this book by Erin Brockovich more than I expected I would. She chose an excellent co-writer in CJ Lyons. There were many similarities between the storyline and the case she was famous for. She added a lot of interesting characters and an interesting backstory. The mystery itself was
Show More
interesting, but the plot was definitely character-driven. I will continue the series because I enjoyed the characters so much. I'd love to see where they go next.
