Another great story by John Flanagan. Again, I couldn't stop reading. I like it that Flanagan treats his series as a whole, ie he regularly refers to the other books. His characters have been through a lot, and this reflects in their behaviour. They have become deep characters.
What annoys me a
Show More
little bit, is that Will and Horace become more and more like superheroes. They are literally unbeatable. I wonder whether Flanagan is going to do something with that. In the first books, the fights are exciting, you hope they will survive. Now, the excitement is a bit gone. Because they never lose a fight, I am more and more tempted to skip parts of the book.
However, I admire the knowledge of Flanagan and his talent to write a series of books that is one whole.

Can't help it; I love this series.
In book 8 we find out that Halt has a despicable brother who is actually a king. Halt has to impersonate him at one point because his brother doesn't have the backbone to do what should be done. This book mostly features Halt, Horace and Will. Not much romance,
Show More
and not as much nail biting, but still plenty of action and intrigue. I'm glad the series isn't ending. I'm certain there are going to be more.

Will, Horace, and Halt are sent to Hibernia to foil the plan of the Outsiders before they take over that country and turn their sites on Araluen. We learn some surprising background on Halt and get a chance to see Will and Horace as they get more used to being adults. Their relationship with Halt
Show More
evoked laughter on more than one occasion. The book is also filled with adventure and daring deeds. It was a great 8th episode in the Ranger's Apprentice series.

Over all this book is great. The book has alot of spoilers near the end and some intense battles. If your ready for a cult against another cult watchout for this book. I love how Halt finally tells Horace how they were going to get into the castle he says "The kings is my brother" Halt said flatly. I just love it overall a 5/5.

Book 8 in the Ranger's Apprentice Series. The kingdom of Clonmel is being threatened by a group of religious charlatans. Ferris, the king, is a weak and disliked monarch. Halt, his twin brother, is determined to save the kingdom.

Couldn't put it down! The Rangers are up against a religious cult in the neighboring kingdom of Clonmel this time -- a cult that promises divine protection from bands of murdering criminals. The people of Clonmel are desperate since their king appears weak and useless, and they are willing to give
Show More
up their gold to get that protection. But the cult is not what it appears, and Halt, Will and Horace work against them to expose the lies, fraud and theft... and it leads up to a battle like never before for Horace! Action and adventure, great plot with lots of twists. This is one of our most popular series -- great stuff! Grade 6 and up.

This book was written by John Flanagan. This book is about a young Ranger named Will, who chasing after a cult of "religious" fanatics who aim to go back to Araluen with Clomnel as their port. As Will and the other characters meet together at a restaurant, (Alyss, Jenny, Horace, Crowley, and
Show More
eventually Halt) come together and Halt reveals that he's actually supposed to be the king of Hibernia (which is in the Clomnel area). He quit after his younger brother tried again and again to kill him for it. As they travel to Hibernia, they hear rumors about Tennyson, the preacher (AKA: the leader of the "religious" cult) spreading word about their "great god". They foil a plan made by Tennyson intending the complete destruction of a major town with another "legend" of their own. When they meet/confront (

Another fine addition to the ongoing ranger's Apprentice Saga. While I DID enjoy it, there was something about this one that didn't quite grab me as much as the previous efforts. It seemed a bit more on the predictable side, and it felt like it was lacking something. Maybe it was the lack of any

real female presence. So for me, good, but not GREAT!

I still love the series and recommend it to friends all the time.

This is the eighth book in the Ranger’s Apprentice series. There are ten books total in the series. If you have enjoyed the previous books in this series, then you will enjoy this one as well.

When Will arrives at the yearly Ranger’s Gathering he finds that Halt is missing. Halt is in the west
Show More
investigating a mysterious religious cult called the Outsiders that is affecting the stability of the kingdom of Clonmel. Will and Horace are asked to go and assist Halt in dealing with the threat.

This book was very much like all the previous books in this series. It was a solid and well done fantasy with humorous banter between the characters. Will, Halt, and Horace are fun to read about.

The plot is very much like other plots in this series. This is a problem in a kingdom that needs to be dealt with; our trio goes and deals with it. Along the way there are some twists and turns that put them in tough situations and they need to use their wits and talents to figure out a solution.

There is one additional thing in this book that makes things a bit more interesting. In this story we learn a lot about Halt’s history, where he comes from, and who his family is. It was fun to learn about Halt’s past and get some more background on him. Although I found the background as to why Halt left his family to be a bit unrealistic when you consider who Halt is and how he normally acts.

I was a bit disappointed that none of the girls feature in this story. I have enjoyed having Alyss or Cassandra as part of the story. I also thought that there really wasn’t as much character development in this book as in previous books. Will is grown and seems a bit stagnant. Horace was more witty than in previous books but outside of that he was the same old Horace. Even Halt seems a bit tired throughout the story.

This book is the first half of a story that will be continued into book 9. As with previous books, this is a well written but not super creative story.

Overall another solid addition to this series. It was great to learn about Halt’s past. The witty banter between the characters is highly entertaining. I didn’t think there was as much character development as in previous books. In general this is a solid traditional adventure fantasy that should appeal to a middle grade and older audience.

In the kings of Clonmel made by John Flanagan, the legendary rangers Will and Halt along with the famous knight Horace go to Hiberia to stop a religious cult. What the cult does is cause trouble in towns then say that there god will save them but they need gold to do it, they take the gold then get
Show More
out stopping the invasions increasing their fame. The two rangers and the knight see that the only way to stop the myth was with another myth.
This book is a bit slow and boring up to the second half where it picks up and gets plenty of action, however it does not compare to the other books

Fast-paced plot, lovable characters, page-turning action, evil bad guys--all of these qualities are ones that Flanagan manages to bring to his books time and time again, and "The Kings Clonmel" is certainly no exception. Readers will find themselves caught up in Will, Halt, and Horace's adventure
Show More
as they must defeat a new enemy that threatens the peace of their homeland and will discover shocking secrets revealed in the process. Although the enemies in this book aren't quite as engaging as the ones in past installments, Flanagan still delivers another solid read that will leave readers anxiously awaiting to continue the series. Definitely recommend "The Kings of Clonmel"!

This one is my favorite in this series, so far, because it's a faster read and more exciting than the others. The story and conflict are very good too.

Another great book in one of my favorite series of all time. This time, we get to learn quite a bit more about Halt and get an up-close look at his brother, though we do once again get dropped off at a major cliffhanger which leaves one wanting to rush right to the next book.

{Eighth of 12 in [[[Ranger's Apprentice]]] series; fantasy, children's, young adult, adventure}

Continuing on with this series; Will is a seasoned full-fledged Ranger with his own, if sleepy, fief to look after. The first few chapters contrast the enjoyment of his attending the annual Ranger
Show More
gathering (where he doesn't realise that he is a legend to the upcoming Ranger apprentices due to his exploits) with the tension of Halt (who is missing the Gathering for the first time) reconnoitring a coastal village which has been targeted by a cult. When the cult leader seems to recognise him, Halt realises that there is a link to his past which needs further investigation which results in Halt, Will and their erstwhile companion Horace traveling to Clonmel in Hibernia to confront the cult, called the Outsiders.

As much fun as the previous books. It could be read as a stand-alone although it refers to the previous adventure ([The Siege of Macindaw]) and, of course, continues the stories of the characters. We do get to see Jenny (from the first book of the series) in her element and though this adventure is completed by the end of the book, there are a couple of loose ends that hint at the next adventure.

And the banter, as always, is fun (and similar to that in [[[The Belgariad]]] series which I just finished reading). Will and Horace, having served their apprenticeships, now dare to tease Halt, who has always been a figure of authority in these books. 'No, no, not at all,' Horace said, realising that he'd annoyed the Ranger but not sure how it had happened,
'It's just you don't have the ... He hesitated, not quite sure what it was that Halt didn't have.
'The haircut,' Will put in.
Halt's glare swung towards him. 'The haircut' It was not a question. It was a statement.
Will nodded easily. 'That's right. Royalty has a cerain sense of fashion to it. It has to do with bearing and behaviour and . .. haircuts.'
'You don't like my haircut?' Halt said. Will spread his hands innocently.
'Halt, I love it! It's just that it's a little Rufus the Roughnut for the brother of a king. It's not what I would call ...'
He paused, leaning across in his saddle to study Halt's pepper-and-salt hair more closely, ignoring the drawn-together brows and the dangerous look in Halt's eyes. Then he found the word he was looking for.
..sleek.'
Horace had been watching this exchange with interest, grateful that Halt's ill temper had been channelled away from him for the time being. Now, however, he couldn't help buying back in.
'Sleek! That's the word. That's it. Your haircut isn't sleek enough. Royalty is sleek, above all other things'
'Do you find King Duncan . .. sleek?' Halt asked.
Horace nodded emphatically. 'When he wishes to be. On state occasions. There's a definite sleekness to the man.
Wouldn't you agree, Will?
I noticed that Halt became 'Michael' on occasions when he needed to conceal his name; the same name as Flanagan's son, whom he started writing this series for to show him that you don't need to be big and strong to be a hero.
