As I read WHERE SHE WENT I felt a weight settle in my chest. Adam's pain and loss was so palpable that certain passages left me without the ability to breath. I was so overcome with emotion that I was left bereft of tears. I understood Adam's anger, sympathized with Mia's decisions and was a

willing captive to their journey. I truly enjoyed the music lyrics that introduced certain chapters it is one of my favorite bits that add to the magic of this book. Gayle Forman is an amazing talent and she has returned with a story that is filled with love, anger, heartbreak and hope. In the same beautiful lyrical style as before while returning us to a couple that we can never forget.

And so begins the amazing sequel to Gayle Forman's powerful 2010 novel If I Stay. I am late to the game in reading both of these books, but I am also glad that I did not have to wait for what seems like an eternity, with my heart lodged in my throat, to read the sequel. Told from the POV of Adam,
Show More
Mia's (ex) boyfriend, Where She Went is a riveting read, one I breezed through at a brisk pace. I am continually amazed at how Gayle Forman can pack so much punch into so few pages. That woman is the queen of using her words effectively and efficiently. Every thought, every word and every nuance is deliberate and meaningful. Forman's books are not ones that you can skim over. You might just miss the whole gist of the story if you do.

First off let's talk POV. I love to read a story from a male POV. And I absolutely adored that Forman wrote Where She Went in Adam's voice. If you have read my review of If I Stay (find it here) you will see that Adam is of course included, because I liked his romance with Mia. The scenes when he is with her in the hospital are especially beautiful. But I loved the passages dedicated to Mia and Kim's friendship, as well as those with Mia and her family, just as much. I guess what I am trying to say is, while I really liked Adam in If I Stay, I fell in love with Adam in Where She Went. Not only has he got the whole bad boy rocker vibe going (LOVE ) but he is a songwriter/ poet, which is another quality that makes my insides melt. I love Adam's cockiness, I love his sarcasm, and I love his big heart and beautiful soul.

And I can not emphasize enough how brilliant I think it was for Forman to write this book with Adam as the narrator because it not only shed new light on the accident Mia was in, but in the grieving period that followed as well. We can imagine what Mia had to endure, waking up from the coma to a life turned upside down, facing months of therapy and doing it without her beloved mother, father and brother. But what about Adam? How was it for Adam to experience those things, yet also try to remain supportive to Mia as she recovered? What about the loss Adam felt in regards to Mia's family, especially her little brother? Who helped Adam through that period of his life? These are just some of the issues touched on in Where She Went and the result is a memorable testimony of love, loss and grief.

Mia definitely plays a secondary role through much of this book. If you are wishing for a ton of one on one time between she and Adam you will have to wait a bit (not too long, the book is only 260 pages.) And there were a lot of instances of me wanting to shout at the characters, slap them around a bit á la Moonstruck ("Snap out of it!") and tell them to quit all the hedging and just talk it out for God's sake!! But that kind of anticipation is a good thing, albeit frustrating, and well worth it in the end.

Another thing I loved about Where She Went was the chapter layout. As in If I Stay, one chapter would center on the "now" while the next chapter would focus on the "then." Forman utilizes this technique beautifully. We get to witness the events rather than have them relayed back to us via the dreaded info dump device. Although I admit that I did find myself wishing to speed up the "then" chapters so I could get back to the "now" chapters and find out what was going to happen next.

As with If I Stay, music plays a central role in Where She Went. Adam is a bonifide rock star, living the rock and roll lifestyle, and I couldn't get enough of the chapters that featured this and the pitfalls that accompany it. It kind of felt like I was watching an episode of VH 1's Behind the Music and I LOVED it. Loved the smarmy tabloid reporters, loved the stressed out manager, loved the celebrity girlfriend, loved the portrayal of the legions of fans and groupies. I could read books upon books of that kind of stuff, it totally fascinates me. We are treated to glimpses of what it must feel like to be on a stage before thousands of screaming fans. We are there, living and breathing that moment:
At these venues, there are just so many people, and so much sound, that it's almost impossible to differentiate a specific voice. All I hear, aside from our own instruments now blaring out of the most powerful speakers available, is that wild scream from the crowd when we're backstage and the lights go down right before we go out. And once we're onstage, the constant shrieking of the crowd melds so it sounds like the furious howl of a hurricane; some nights I swear I can feel the breath of those fifteen thousand screams.

In addition Forman treats us to snippets of Adam's song lyrics at the headings of the "now" chapters, and they added even more layers to the story.

Needle and thread, flesh and bone
Spit and sinew, heartbreak is home
Your suture lines sparkle like diamonds
Bright stars to light my confinement

and

First you inspect me
Then you dissect me
Then you reject me
I wait for the day
That you'll resurrect me

And oh my gosh, I can't get into specifics, but trust me when I say you are in for a treat when you reach the end of the book. Don't forget to read the pages that follow the acknowledgments...

As with many of my favorite books, I love the details. I loved the scenes that took place at the bowling alley, at the Brooklyn Bridge, in the diner. And I loved Adam's scene with the ipod toting jogger. All little pieces that connect together to round out the whole and turn a good story into a great story.

The ending was PERFECT. Some may disagree but I loved it and wouldn't have been satisfied with any other outcome.

And did I mention that Where She Went can fall into the New Adult category in addition to the Young Adult category? I LOVE seeing books that deal with the period of life that is post high school but pre marriage and family. It's been pretty under appreciated until recently but I think it may finally be starting to gain some momentum!

So to sum everything up, I absolutely loved Where She Went in large part due to the narrative being told by Adam instead of Mia. I thought If I Stay was awesome, but I have to say that I loved Where She Went even more. Gayle Forman's talent blows me away and I cannot wait to check out her upcoming novel Just One More Day slated for release in 2013!

Following on three years later from where “If I Stay” finished off, this story is told from Adam’s perspective. In the three years since Mia came out of her coma, Adam’s life has been feeled with heartbreak. Mia moved to New York and stopped talking to him. He is still in the band Shooting

Star, they are now famous around the world and have won themselves Grammys. His girlfriend is a movie star. But he still feels like a shell of his former self.

So when Adam and Mia’s paths cross in New York City, neither of them know what to say to one another. What’s left to say? They spend one night walking around New York City where Adam tries to get answers to some of the questions he has been burning to ask Mia all this time. Namely why did she stop talking to him?

Such a beautifully written book, I actually liked this one more than If I Stay, however one would not be the same without the other, so really – these two books together make for one beautifully tragic story. Two these books have easily become two of my favourite books (amongst others!).

Buy a copy. This one is a keeper!

When I first heard that Gayle Forman’s If I Stay would have a sequel, I was surprised. If I Stay ended on a pretty good note. Upon reading Where She Went, though, I was so grateful that Forman ended up writing a sequel—there was so much more to be discovered about Mia and Adam’s relationship.

Where She Went is just as beautiful as its predecessor. Gayle Forman’s writing is superb, and Adam’s perspective was so raw and heartbreaking. It was interesting to see this side of him—the side that is broken and empty. It was like being introduced to an entirely different character. His journey through New York and his meeting with Mia was so sad, but the emotions that he expressed through the whole ordeal were amazingly true.

Mia didn’t play as big a part in Where She Went as she did in If I Stay, but what she represented for Adam made her extremely important. I was so happy when the two finally met up again, and enjoyed their reactions to being reunited. The story takes the pair all over New York City, which perfectly parallels Adam’s rollercoaster emotions.

Like If I Stay, Where She Went was filled with memories. These memories helped flesh out the story and made Adam’s feelings easier to understand. Gayle Forman placed each memory perfectly—I never felt confused, and they were always full of emotion.

Fans of If I Stay will quickly devour Where She Went. Gayle Forman easily gets into the head of Mia’s boyfriend Adam and delivers another touching story that hooks the reader right from the start. It was nearly impossible for me to put this book down, and when I did, it was to give a sigh of satisfaction at finishing a great book.

I fell in love with this book.It is unexpected and so good. This is a beautiful yet tragic book. I read the first one and now the second one and I was amazed with what Gayle Foreman had wrote. This book is by far one of the best book I've read as a teenager!

"She looks at me, square in the eye. Taking aim. And then she pulls the trigger. 'Because I hated you.'
The wind, the noise, it all just goes quiet for a second, and I'm left with a dull ringing in my ear, like after a show, like after a heart monitor goes to flatline. 'Hated me? Why?'

stay.' She says it quietly, and it almost gets lost in the wind and the traffic and I'm not sure I heard her. But then she repeats it louder this time. 'You made me stay!'"

When I read If I Stay last year, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the novel. It was very moving and emotional, and I was basically reduced to tears by the end of the book. Where She Went, the sequel to If I Stay, was even better. I was worried that I was going to be less than pleased with it. I mean there are only so many things you could do with a sequel to a story like that but Gayle Forman really delivered another true gem to the masses.

The story being told from Adam's point of view, Mia's boyfriend in If I Stay, only contributed to the amazing way this book was put together. This book was rich with powerful and lyrical prose and skillfully organized into before and after sections by Forman. It keeps going from the present day time when Adam is in New York before leaving for a music tour to back to different points in the past from before, during, and after the accident that Mia and her family were involved in. Adam is at the breaking point from all that pressure that being a "rock star" comes with currently and when he winds up running into Mia after one of her concerts, the two are in for a night they'll never be able to forget. While discovering each other all over again and uncovering a lot of truths left unspoken previously, they will have to decide how far they're willing to go in order to attain their heart's desire and the true meaning of forgiveness. This is definitely a book about coming to terms with the cards life deals you.

I can honestly say that there were several points in the book where I broke down and started to cry. This was a very beautifully written story continuing throughout both books. I loved how Forman wrote one book in one character's perspective and the sequel in the other's point of view. It made for a much bigger impact and the ideas and life lessons behind the story were fully able to hit home. I can't wait to see what Forman brings to the table in the literary world next, but I know it will be phenomenal.

"I've come to realize there's a world of difference between knowing something happened, even knowing why it happened, and believing it. Because when she cut off contact, yeah, I knew what had happened. But it took me a long, long time to believe it."

Yesterday I talked about If I Stay – the first part of Mia’s story, told from her point of view. Now, today, I want to talk about Where She Went, told from Adam’s point of view.

If I Stay impressed me. Where She Went knocked me down and took my breath away. I was worried that it would pick up

right away from where Mia’s story left off, but Gayle Forman knew better – she let time and it’s healing process speak loudly in the silence between books. It was perfect.

I felt gut-wrenching pain for Adam, for his loss, for Mia’s loss, for the lack of connection, the lack of answers, the lack of resolution for both of them. But then Gayle Forman did something magical – she brought the two of them together in an electric scene that had my fingertips tingling – and not in that silly romantic way. I could feel the pain and anger and frustration and I wanted to scream to let out the feelings that Adam’s pain gave me. I am getting chills just writing this and remembering.

I never know how to end really positive reviews. Sometimes I feel like giving this huge cheesy thumbs up and telling you to run out and read the books, sometimes I feel like smacking you over the head with a book and shouting READ READ READ – but I won’t do that here. Instead I’ll just say that these books, this book in particular, woke some very strong emotions in me and had me asking myself some very hard questions. A

And that’s a very good thing.

A worthy sequel to its predecessor. While I found If I stay to be a compelling read, where she went is just so much more than that. It was intensely moving and heartbreaking.Unlike the first book, where she went is told from Adam's perspective, three years after Mia walked out from his life

forever. Adam is now a famous rock star, but that doesn't make up for his devastating loss and his guilt. He's emo and empty; akin to a walking corpse. And nothing could fill that void. Except for one...The characters here are more developed than the previous book. The lose knots and ends are finally resolved in this novel. Overall, where she went is an easy and quick read, with beautiful and evocative prose. Recommended!

Wow. Once again Gayle Forman has left me speechless with her beautiful imagery and incredible ability to transfer emotions from character, to page, to reader.

Where She Went is Adam's story, Mia's previous boyfriend, in the aftermath of Mia's accident. Mia chose to stay, to live, and Adam was
Show More
overjoyed. But he made a promise to her, and he has to keep it, even if she doesn't remember it - but what if she does? After three years of separation, each rising to stardom in their own spheres, what will happen with a chance encounter?

In If I Stay, I have to say, I was not all too fond of Adam. I don't know what it is, I can't really explain it, he was just not my cup of tea, if you will. This novel completely turned it around, I really liked Adam and I was royally ticked off at Mia. Just the fact that Forman has the ability to completely change an opinion, because her portrayal of the other side was so perfect, showcases her extraordinary talent. I was really happy towards the end though, that I once again was able to love Mia.

I also really enjoyed the switched from the present to the past, which is sometimes my biggest criticism with other novels. This method can be very choppy and confusing, Forman made it anything but. I also loved how the present chapters started off with lyrics from Adam's band, Shooting Star. Each chapter made me wish more and more that I could listen to the CD, it reads amazing, can't imagine how it would sound.

As you can see, I really have nothing but good things to say about this novel. I would definitely recommend it. Recommend being a more accepted term for "force upon" ;)

Loved it! Quick read! Kinda wish I read it immediately after "If I Stay", but also have to commend Gayle Forman on writing a sequel that it isn't absolutely necessary to read the first book to appreciate and follow the second. I love Adam & Mia!

Where She Went by Gayle Forman takes place three years after the previous book, If I Stay. When I discovered the sequel, I was generally excited to find out what happened to Mia and Adam. What also enticed me about the book was that it was from Adam’s point of view. The first book was told by

Mia, so it was interesting to see their world through Adam’s eyes this go around.

The first novel was heartbreaking, but it a wonderful way that made me want to devour the entire thing in one sitting. The second book started out with much of the same feelings. Adam’s feelings are strongly portrayed through his voice. Even though Where She Went did not grab a hold of me as tight as the first book did, I still highly enjoyed it, especially for a sequel. The characters felt very realistic, and I found myself rooting for the couple to reconcile throughout the story.

I would highly recommend this novel to anyone who is even mildly interested in it, especially if they have read the first one. The story and the characters are captivating, the emotions they show are raw and powerful, and the reader will find it difficult to put the book down for more than a few minutes.

IF I STAY by Gayle Forman is one of my top five favorite reads of all time and when I need cathartic tears to flow, it is my go-to book. In fact, it is a cherished book among many readers and I could go on and on with accolades for IF I STAY because it is so amazing, but that is not why I am here

today. The much awaited companion novel to IF I STAY, entitled WHERE SHE WENT found it's way into my eager hands and I stopped everything I was doing so that I could read and savor my newest bounty. It was as if I was starved for literary ambrosia and I could not stop until the last word was consumed. I was in heaven.

I am not sure how I can go about this review without revealing too much, but I will try my best. Initially I had no knowledge that a sequel/companion novel was in the making until last spring. I never thought that much about Mia's and Adam's story going any further. Then as the idea set in the seed of possible scenarios planted itself within my brain and I became obsessed. Yet, nothing could have prepared me for what I encountered within the pages of WHERE SHE WENT.

This story takes place three years after Mia's horrific accident in which she lost her entire family, but now the story is being told through Adam's POV. And if you have read the synopsis you know that Mia and Adam are no longer together (I'm not spoiling anything here). His perspective on their lives apart is grittier, darker and more destructive but by no means as painful than it's predecessor. As you begin you cannot fathom why Mia and Adam are apart, it is even a mystery to Adam who is now a successful rock star living the American dream. As he trudges forward, lost and riddled with anxiety his mind goes back to those months after her accident, replaying and dissecting each moment until he is numb and empty. The night before he is to leave on a European tour abroad a moment of fate occurs and Adam and Mia are brought together again. Their encounter leads to an evening traveling throughout the city of New York, revealing their lives apart in moments filled with memories, hurtful truths and confessions. But what will the light of dawn bring for them? only time will tell.

As I read WHERE SHE WENT I felt a weight settle in my chest. Adam's pain and loss was so palpable that certain passages left me without the ability to breath. I was so overcome with emotion that I was left bereft of tears. I understood Adam's anger, sympathized with Mia's decisions and was a willing captive to their journey.

I recommend WHERE SHE WENT to all of those that enjoyed IF I STAY for it was a story that needed to be told and was well done. I will be the first to admit that it did not grab me in the quite the same manner as IF I STAY had, but It is a story that I will always remember and cherish.

(There might be slight spoilers in this, but I really don't mention anything that the blurb doesn't touch on too...)

This is one of my most anticipated books of the year and I am very happy to say that it did not disappoint. I was a little sad to see that this book takes place 3 years after If I
Show More
Stay and that Adam and Mia were no longer together. I know that it was close to impossible for Mia to have a completely Happily Ever After at the end of If I Stay, but I was still hoping for it. And I thought Adam was the best chance Mia had at healing. I was wrong.

Gayle Forman once again handled this tragic and unfathomable situation realistically. Mia was so damaged by the events in If I Stay and everyone deals with those things in different ways. The way that Mia ultimately dealt with her pain and anger was completely believable.

This book is told from Adam's point of view. I loved Adam from the first time he was introduced in the other book so I was excited to get things from his perspective. I was a little shocked at what I found. He was angry, very angry and a little broken. He leads what everyone thinks is this perfect rock star life, but in reality he hates it. He was gritty and emotional and fantastically written!

If you have read If I Stay, the writing is just as good! If not better. Its told in the same sparse style as the first book and it will suck you in before you know it. There are also some of Adam's song lyrics at the beginning of every other chapter, these were incredible. If Shooting Star were a real band I would definitely buy their album!

Really, these are just two extraordinary books and you should definitely read both of them...soon!

I was almost reluctant to read this book. After reading "If I Stay," I was more than happy to leave Adam and Mia's fate a mystery. I expect sequels to be disappointing, but Gayle Forman just doesn't disappoint. Set 3 years after "If I Stay," "Where She Went" explores the consequences of Mia's

choice. Having made a success of their respective musical careers, Adam and Mia now live disconnected lives on opposite coasts.

I could not put this book down. Forman's writing is gut-wrenching without slipping into the melodramatic. "Where She Went" is written in Adam's voice - a choice I loved. Books dealing with loss and survival often feel contrived, but Foreman's plot moves seamlessly. Definitely a must read for fans of "If I Stay"

Where She Went is the continuation of Adam and Mia's story 3 years after If I Stay.

Adam is now a rock star, and Mia is a up and coming who's who in the classical music world. I enjoyed Where She Went, but I liked If I Stay more, which is wierd because Where She Went is told through Adam's

Is it possible that I like Gayle Forman's Where She Went even more than If I Stay? I didn't know that this was possible. I am a little taken aback. But, from the very first chapter, I was captivated by this second book and could not put it down. Now, I did have a difficult time putting down If I
Show More
Stay, but there was something so compelling about this book, even without the lure of tragedy and melodrama.

**Please don't read this post if you haven't read If I Stay and want to. I'm going to have to SPOIL it for you if you do! There's just no way to talk about Where She Went without revealing what happened in If I Stay.**

Okay. Phew. I don't want to spoil anything about this series for anyone!

This second book is narrated completely from Adam's point of view. I have to admit that I was intrigued by this from the very start. I loved Adam in book one, but I completely fell for him in book two. He just seemed even more real to me in this second installment. Even though he's now famous and touring the world, his feelings and character just ring true to me.

And Mia. Love Mia. In some ways, she's even more complex in this second book than in the first. She, too, has become an accomplished musician, but there's something about her struggle to both move past and remember that fateful night on which If I Stay is based that feels very real to me. If you've ever had any sort of trauma in your life, I think you'll understand what she's going through.

I love that Adam and Mia are not perfect. I love that they are not fixed and that, though they've experienced success, they don't always feel deserving or good about it. All of this rings very true to me. And, Foreman made some great choices with this book. I loved that she start most chapters with lyrics from Adam's hit record, which is actually written about Mia. I found most of the lyrics to be interesting and to add to the narrative. I want to hear his music!

I know that many of you are waiting for this book to come out and that you cannot wait to read it. In my opinion, this is a great second book to a story that could have ended with the first. But, after reading Where She Went, I am happy to know more about Adam and Mia and understand where they'll go from here. I loved it.

Set in ‘the City that never sleeps’ the story of Adam and Mia continues three years after the tragic accident that claimed Mia’s parents and kid brother. Gayle Foreman does a sensational job of recapturing the raw emotion of "If I Stay". Switching perspectives from Mia to Adam was stirring
Show More
because it showed how Mia’s reactions to the accident affected the one person who would have taken her family’s place. In turn we see that Adam suffered just as much or maybe more than Mia did.
I loved that Adam finally confronted Mia about how much she hurt him when she left, even though he gave her permission.
Not as heart wrenching as "If I Stay" (I bawled like a baby) but still emotionally moving. I definitely recommend it to anyone who has had there heart broken by a significant other, because in the end it gives hope to hopeless romantics and cynics alike.

After I finished If I Stay, I made myself finish two obligation reads before I allowed myself to start Where She Went. I read it in a little over a day, and I have to say I'm sad that I'm done with Adam and Mia's story.

This book was very different from If I Stay, mostly because it's told from
Show More
Adam's point of view instead of Mia's. Secondly, they're in very different places in their lives. Mia is a successful cellist and Adam's
band is at the top of its' game and touring the world. He's got a movie star girlfriend and a successful music career, so he should be happy, right? Not so much.

When Adam and Mia meet again, they spend a day together walking around the city and peeling back the layers of their lives until they can get to the center of why their relationship ended. At the start of the book I found myself not liking Mia as much, but that's because we're seeing her through Adam's eyes and with his prejudices.

Where She Went is definitely going on my list of best reads of the year, but I have to say it didn't have the same emotional pull as If I Stay. It's still a must-read and Gayle Forman is one of the best writers in the genre by far.

but he is still wracked by the pain of their breakup, and it has really screwed him up.

Then, Adam and Mia cross paths again one night in New York City. Told with a series of flashbacks as to where their relationship went wrong, Adam narrates his night with Mia, a night that could be as insignificant as randomly running into the person who broke your heart…or as life-changing as imaginable.

I was actually very happy with how If I Stay ended. When I heard that Gayle Forman was coming out with a sequel to If I Stay, however, I was curious to see how it would turn out in Gayle’s talented hands. Turns out, it’s as good as it gets.

At first, Adam seems like a rather unlikable character. In many ways, he acts like a spoiled, ungrateful brat, being nasty to people and taking the whole “I was dumped by my girlfriend” thing too far to be sympathetic to. However, he is easy to sympathize with. A romantic situation that could’ve easily been melodramatic is meticulously revealed to us in small, emotional bits, filling in the three years between the car crash and the present day. Everything in this book just progresses effortlessly: we can pretty much believe that these are two real people whose lives are simply being recorded down in this book.

In Adam and Mia’s story, we see the emotional complexity that goes into a relationship rife with tragedy and change. Why do people act the way they do? How can what one person does or thinks about their relationship seem so irrational to their partner? WHERE SHE WENT is the best book I’ve read that explores these subtleties. It’s deep, and yet it’s not preachy, or so deep as to be unrelatable.

WHERE SHE WENT is, simply put, so, so good. It’s beautiful without being over the top, memorable without being unrealistic. If you read and loved If I Stay, then this sequel is an absolute must-read, if simply for the fact that you will get more of Adam and Mia. And if you haven’t read If I Stay yet, I think I will have to come after you and bug you until you do.

I was a little apprehensive about this book, because I loved If I Stay so much and thought it had a perfect ending. It was hard for me to believe a sequel could be as good as the first book, but it really is. The choice to tell Adam's story was a great one, and I really liked his voice.

three years after the first book ended, we learn that Adam has become a famous rock star, but also that Mia left him after she recovered and that he's depressed and estranged from his bandmates. Interspersing Adam's song lyrics in the text help fill out the our understanding of what he's feeling, and make it that much more realistic that he's a famous musician that has a hidden pain journalists are trying to uncover.

It's hard to write a review for this without spoiling the whole story, but the chance meeting between Adam and Mia is perfectly written and seemed so natural and realistic. I love both of these characters, and hope to read more from Forman.

***This book is a sequel to Forman’s novel If I Stay. I won’t spoil anything in Where She Went, but I will assume you’ve read If I Stay.***

In If I Stay, a high school senior, Mia Hall, lost her whole family in a horrible car crash. She almost died, but pulled through at the end of the book

when he boyfriend Adam begs her to stay. The whole story is told from her point-of-view as she sees Adam, her friends and extended family visit her in the hospital.

In Where She Went we pick up three years later. We learn that Mia and Adam aren’t together, but we don’t know why. She’s become a famous cellist and attends Julliard, Adam has become a famous rockstar, but his life’s a mess. The story is told from Adam’s perspective, which was a wonderful choice. Each chapter starts with beautiful lyrics Adam wrote and they really spoke to the story instead of feeling like a gimmick.

Honestly I liked this book ever more than If I Stay. The characters became more real to me. They had more depth and more pain. You find yourself rooting for them to find peace, because their struggles are so realistic.

It would be easy to dismiss Adam and Mia's two-year relationship as a high school love that could never last, but there’s more to it. Going through the horrible loss that happened in the first book bonded them together in an irreversible way. No matter what came after that, Mia and Adam became a sort of family for each other.

I loved how Forman decided to switch perspectives and toss us into the story a few years down the road. She explores the way love can destroy us and change us so deeply, for better or worse, that we never quite recover. The people you love become a part of you.

In the sequel to If I Stay, we find that Mia and Adam have gone their separate ways. Adam has his own rock band Shooting Star and he is dating a movie star. He is on a whirlwind tour. Mia is having success of her own at Julliard. Three years have passed since they were last together. Adam finds

himself stranded in New York. He and Mia meet by chance. This is the opportunity for us to see the Adam we knew still existed under the many layers of the new Adam. The two of them begin opening up old wounds that will help them begin a true healing process. The reader is taken on an emotional roller coaster ride, or at least I was. For me this book was more intense and more enjoyable than the first book. It seems funny to say that because I really, really loved the first book. Where She Went has the raw emotion that makes you hang in there rooting for this couple. This is a book I could see myself reading again and definitely recommending to others.

While IF I STAY was Mia's story, WHERE SHE WENT is Adam's story.

It's been three years since Mia recovered from the accident and left for Julliard...and Adam hasn't seen or heard from her since.

Adam's band, Shooting Star, has taken off and is touring internationally. Not bad for a small-town

rocker, eh? But Adam is having a rough time - he takes anxiety medication, barely talks to the band and doesn't even stay in the same hotel or travel with them anymore. He thinks about Mia all the time - how she left, what went wrong - even though he's dating/living with a high-profile actress.

A chance sighting of a poster on the streets of NY will change everything for Adam. He doesn't know it yet, but he's getting ready to make one of the biggest decisions of his life.

While this book didn't make me cry like IF I STAY did, it made me look at the relationship from Adam's point of view. I found myself thinking "Dammit, Mia, what was wrong with you?!" There's always two sides, y'know? This was an amazing sequel and I can't imagine it any other way. Gayle Forman definitely captured my heart with Mia and Adam!
