Description

In a near-future America, a sentient computer program named Charlotte has turned terrorist, but Lee Fisher, the closeted son of an ultraconservative President, is more concerned with keeping his Secret Service detail from finding out about his developing romance with Nico, the new guy at school, but when the spider-like robots that roam the school halls begin acting even stranger than usual, Lee realizes he is Charlotte's next target.

Willful Machines is a new age Pinocchio story. Lee Fischer falls in love with a machine who wants to be a "real boy". The plot was built around Lee being gay and his love for AI. The storyline asks the question "what makes humans different from machines?" It also attempts to challenge "free will".

I felt that the writer forced Lee's sexual preference into the storyline. Willful Machines has good readability but like a sandwich with no taste it's just tolerable.
