Description

Mystery. Young Adult Fiction. HTML: Thirteen-year-old Quest (Q) isn't sure he's ready for a new family. For a long time it's just been him and his mom, Blaze. But everything changes when Blaze falls in love with Roger and they start a new rock band called Match. Now they're married, have a hit record, and Match is going out on a year-long driving tour across the country. Q, along with new stepsister Angela, will take a year off from school and travel with the band. For now, home will be a luxury motor coach and homework will be a Web site diary of their travels. Perfect-Q can practice his magic tricks and Angela can read her spy novels. What can go wrong? As Q and Angela settle into their new life and new relationship as siblings, they start to notice that certain coincidences don't seem coincidental. For example, how does a band roadie named Boone find them in the middle of a desert where their coach just happens to break down? Why does a man from their parents' wedding keep showing up in the same cities they stop at? When they reach Philadelphia, Q and Angela realize this tour is definitely not the trip their parents had planned and that the "City of Brotherly Love" is full of mysteries and secrets that could threaten their new life together. In addition to his action adventure books, Roland is the author of many award-winning books for children including Journey of the Red Wolf; The Captain's Dog: My Journey with the Lewis and Clark Tribe; and Thunder Cave, which was a 1996 Notable Children's Trade Book in the field of Social Studies. His books with Sleeping Bear Press include W is for Waves: An Ocean Alphabet; Z is for Zookeeper: A Zoo Alphabet; and N is for our Nation's Capital: A Washington, DC Alphabet. Roland lives near Portland, Oregon..… (more)

I really enjoyed this book. I am fan of mystery and suspense and this book did not disappoint. Starting a page one you become twisted into a situation and you are left knowing something is not right or is going to happen but Roland Smith makes you keep reader deeper and deeper into the book to
Show More
figure everything out. He does a great job at keeping you at the edge of your seat and not wanting to put the book down because if you do you could miss something.
It's strengths were definitely the characters (where at time you weren't sure if they were good guys or bad guys) and plot. I wouldn't say his settings were weak it's just they were moving so much in this book it was obvious he spent more time on the characters and their developments, which to me made the book so great!

Quest (Q) and his new stepsister Angela are thrust into a possibly dangerous adventure when their newly married parents go on a tour to promote their new CD. Angela, who thought her mother died in a bomb attack 4 years ago, suddenly discovers she may be alive; she was an agent for the US, but now
Show More
it looks like she may have switched sides. She's now being chased by an extreme anti-terrorist group. Angela and Q, along with their new "bodyguard" Boone, attempt to find her and keep themselves from being captured or killed while keeping their other parents in the dark.

This is an action-packed story with plenty of adventure and mystery. It is the first in a series and will suit pre-teens and teens who enjoy spy stories.

Step-Siblings Quest and Angela are brought on tour with their parents the famous band; “Match.” The two were determined to lay low, do their homework, see the sites, and to not ruin their parents once in a lifetime opportunity. But that gets a lot tougher when Angela realizes she is being

followed, and they find themselves mixed up with the Israeli Mossad and a secret group called the SOS. They also find the secret of Angela’s mother who was a formal Secret Service agent that was supposedly killed by a terrorist attack.
I,Q is a fast paced modern mystery novel that I can guarantee will keep you on the edge of your seat. This book keeps its suspense through every page and never runs dry with new twists and surprises at every turn. Roland Smith’s style of writing places you right into Quest’s shoes and makes it feel like you are right there in the story. He creatively designs each and every character and makes them come to life. I would rate this book a four of five stars for its constant suspense, action, and its lasting appeal. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mystery and possibly sci-fi novels.

Interesting plot - follows the 'kids must become spies to help save the world' formula. The story was captivating, but my version (Scholastic paperback) had so many typos that it became a distraction. Words misspelled, people's names changed... now if it had been in audio, I probably wouldn't have

Once again, a book just as good the second time around. Last time, I read this with my son, this time I read this to my daughters.

I usually love everything written by Smith, but this one didn't do much for me. Apparantly it's a series with at least three other books so clearly I'm in the minority.

Thirteen-year-old Q and fifteen-year-old Angela expect their lives to become complicated when his mother and her father, wildly popular musicians, marry, but not that they will face spies and terrorists in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This was the first book I've read by Roland Smith although I own several. I've always considered him an author who writes just for boys and avoided reading his books, but I was wrong. I really enjoyed this fast-paced tale laced with action, mystery, and political intrigue.
The book begins with the
Show More
wedding of Roger and Blaze who make up a musical group called Match that has just landed a hit song and are getting ready to tour the country. The story is about their teenage children. Angela is Roger's daughter, and Quest or Q for short is Blaze's son. With Blaze and Roger about to embark on US tour, Q and Angela find their lives in upheaval. While trying to get to know each other better, Angela reveals that her mother was a Secret Service agent killed in the line of duty. Seemingly out of nowhere, Boone, a scruffy looking former roadie, appears and tells Angela that her mother may not be dead and may be a terrorist. The action and mystery amp up from there as Q and Angela find themselves being followed by Mossad agents while trying to find out the truth about Angela's mother. It's unclear in this story who can be trusted, but that just leads to greater suspense and exciting twists.
I really liked this story and will make sure to get copies of the rest of the series as well as reading other books Roland Smith has written. If I like them half as well as this one, I will be busy reading his books for some time to come.

The Big News: ROLAND SMITH IS COMING TO MY SCHOOL! I am so excited, and so are my students. This year I am spending every penny of my author visit budget on Mr. Smith -- you gotta have a really big-name author every once in awhile, right? So, in view of his upcoming visit, I thought I had better

read some of his books.

This is a terrific book for middle grade (5th grade and up) students who want a fast-paced, intelligent, current-events-based thriller. Young Q (short for Quest) and his new stepsister Angela are getting to know one another on a giant tour bus after their respective parents' (his mom, her dad) whirlwind courtship, record deal, concert tour, and marriage. While crossing the country, however, Angela realizes she is being followed, and the two new siblings are drawn into an international web of intrigue involving the Secret Service, the Israeli Mossad, a rogue band of former intelligence operatives, and US-based terrorism cell. The book is 8 years old, but could be set in 2016. It is smart, character-driven, and very twisty, touched by personal grief that is poignant but never overdone, and involves Angela's mother, thought to be killed by a terrorist group, but possibly alive after all. A one-sitting kind of book.
