Kazu Kabuishi creates wonderfully beautiful graphic novels with just the right balance of humor, action, plot and character development. This book is no exception. I look to be a long time fan and hope they will be making the Amulet series into a movie. Can't wait for the next one!

This was the third book in the Amulet series by Kibuishi. It was an excellent installment in the series; the beautiful artwork and fantastic storyline make it a pleasure to read and very engaging.

Stonekeepers and saving the land from the evil Elf King's rule. Trellis, the Elf King's son, joins the team after being declared a traitor by his father.

This was a wonderful read. The story deepens even more in this installment. A lot is learned about the history of the world and about how the Elf King came to power. Like the previous books there is a lot of adventure. When the characters set off in an airship to find the lost city of Cielis they are attacked by Wyvern's and have to battle a furious storm.

This installment is paced wonderfully, introduces the readers to new wonders, and progresses the story quickly leaving it at a good point. The artwork is just..well..it is absolutely spectacular. There is so much beauty and magic in the artwork that goes with the story; together they are just absolutely magical and wondrous.

Overall an excellent installment. Fans of the first two books will love this one. The artwork is spectacular, the story deepens as we learn more history, and I just can't wait to see what happens next.

This is the third volume is Kibuishi's amulet series and we return to Emily and Navin, in their continued quest to help defeat the elf king. Leon Redbeard is tasked with guiding them to the guardian council, the lost rulers and most powerful stone keepers in the kingdom. If anyone can help them

they can. There's just one problem...their city disappeared long ago and many think it has been destroyed. But the group has to try to find them. Along the way they meet new friends, old so called enemies, and a powerful new foe. Emily must continue to master the amulet in order to help them along their way and to ensure their survival.

Even with the introduction of more characters Kazu creates a world that's easy to inhabit and follow along with (although it does help to reread the previous volumes before picking up this one.) In this book we learn even more about the elf kingdom and some of its darkest secrets. There are only a couple places that I wish we found out more about the characters, like when they land at the fill stations. What's the story between Rico and the owner? Hopefully more of the story will be revealed along the way...it's just one of those nagging little mysteries. The artwork continues to shine and allow you to get deeper and deeper into the world around the characters. Kazu and his team do an amazing job with creating depth in the illustrations and colors.

I continue to highly recommend this series every chance I get and the only downside of the series is having to wait for that next volume to find out what happens to Emily, Navin, and the gang.

Summary: In Volume 3, Emily, Navin, their mother, and the crew they've acquired is in search of the Guardian Council, for the Elf King is gaining power in Alledia, and only the other Stonekeepers will be able to help Emily to save the lands. The only problem is that the Stonekeepers' city of Cielis

is impossible to reach - some say it was destroyed long ago, while others claim that the Stonekeepers have used their powers to keep their city protected by having it float in the middle of an impenetrable storm.

Review: In my review for the first two volumes of this series, I complained that the story felt haphazard and not particularly cohesive, but said that I would give it a chance to develop its story. And I'm glad I did. That's not to say that the third and fourth volume don't still have a piecemeal feeling to them - each of the individual scenes and pieces of worldbuilding are neat, but I still don't feel like they entirely fit together according to any internal or consistent logic. But the plot really picks up in these volumes, so I finally have a bead on where the story is going, as compared to the first two volumes, which felt more like one thing happening, and then another, but again without a cohesive thread. Having a main plot that I can identify, and interesting subplots woven in, both held my attention and helped me put some of the random-seeming worldbuilding into some kind of context. The artwork is still fantastic, of course, colorful and rich and lively, and I just love Kibuishi's drawing style. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Recommendation: This series should definitely appeal to mid-grade readers of both sexes; for adults, they're not the meatiest graphic novels out there, but it's a pretty way to spend an hour.

this is the middle book in the series and suffers a little from being the book the ties together the beginning and the end BUT still a great book....love the airships!

He is one of those authors that make me kick myself that I didn't find him sooner.

This is shaping up to be one of my favorite

The Cloud Searchers by Kazu Kibuishi is the third installment of the tween graphic novel series, Amulet. Emily and Navin and the rest of the crew are hoping to find the lost city of Cielis. There they hope to learn how to control the Stone that Emily has been forced to wear since book one.

As we are
Show More
out of the initial travel to a new world and the race against time to save mother, volume 3 takes some time to go into the history of Alledia as well as the reasons behind the Elf Prince's actions in books one and two.

To mix things up a bit, Emily and Navin's mother is now awake. She hasn't gotten used to being in a new world, nor is she willing to accept how much her children have grown and accomplished as heroes. Her over protectiveness is played against the relationship between the Elf King and his son, and I suspect this will be a continuing them in future books.

The world building is especially strong in this volume. The creation of the port city where Emily and Navin hire a ship to take them Cielis reminds me of the trading post in Neil Gaiman's Stardust.

As with the previous two volumes, Kibuishi's backgrounds are amazing. I'm not exactly sold on his character design for the humans and elves. That said, the story is so interesting, it's still a page turner.

I enjoyed this book because it introduces new characters and unsuspected allies.

Emily and her family friends make their way to the lost city of Ceilis. I liked the new characters that were introduced. But this one still felt like it wasn't complete.

I am so drawn to these books now, I can't wait to get back to the library to grab the next few in the series. Again action-packed adventure - new alliances are made and there is so much more to this world and the characters as it progresses - I am loving the world building.

Volume three continues

with Emily's story progression and we learn a lot of new awesome things about the characters and the world they are in, can't wait to read on. I am finding myself drawn to the weirdest of characters - maybe not even the good guys - can't really tell yet.

I suspect that giving away the first six books for free was a mistake on the publishers part, or that Amazon gave them away as part of a promotion or publicity stunt for the next volume. Regardless of why,

I picked them up: a friend had linked to them and raved about them, so I figured that I might want them all if I decided to read them. I didn't for a long time, as reading them in black and white wasn't the same, I couldn't use a tablet, and it wasn't available on the Kindle apps for my laptop or phone for a while. (And reading a couple comics was uncomfortable on my phone on the Kindle app.)

I started reading this after Amazon bought Comixology and then after you were able to merge accounts; I could read my Kindle graphic novels on my favorite digital graphic novel reader? Yes, thank you!

I'm also catching up on reviews as I read this October first. I'm also in a lousy mood because my check engine light went on last night and it was supposed to have been dealt with last week.

So these are going to be short reviews. Basically, same thing as the last two: this furthers the story while building on the world and characters that have already been created and introduced to us, while introducing new elements and characters. It's quite, it's fun, and I find myself absolutely addicted to this series.

still enjoying the adventure.
I like the pacing - quick, easy to follow, and no dull moments.
the artwork is beautiful!
can't wait to read the next one.
this one wasn't as cheesy as the previous one. :)

Meh. We've seen all this before. Nothing special. I think the artwork is more of a draw in this series than the story itself.
