Description

It's a steamy June afternoon in Louisiana, circa 1956, and Sissy LeBlanc is sitting on her front porch, wondering -- half seriously -- if she could kill herself with aspirins and Coca-Cola. She's been living in stifling old Gentry since the day she was born and trapped in a sham of a marriage to PeeWee LeBlanc since she was only seventeen. In short, she's fed up, restless, and ready for an adventure. Sissy just never imagined temptation would come into her life that breathless summer day as she sat smoking on her porch swing. For although she may have been fixated on the taut muscles of the lineman shimmying down the telephone pole across the street, she hadn't allowed herself to imagine that he'd be none other than her high school sweetheart, Parker Davidson, who left town fourteen years before without so much as a wave good-bye. But suddenly, here he is, leaning in for a kiss that will stir up more excitement than Sissy could ever have imagined...… (more)

This is one of my favorite Chic Lit books. Just a fun beach read in the summer of curl up in your bed book for the winter. Enjoy!

It started out 3 stars, ended up 4 stars, so I gave it a 3 1/2.
It is good if you stick with it, good ending. A few too many sex scenes for me.

This story had potential but quickly went downhill.

Second book of Despres' that I have read. Interesting story! I'm from the south and enjoy the stories of southern folk with the trist of drama. one always wants love!

I read this book for the first time in high school and always loved it, having grown up in the south/midwest, where everyone is a Christian with dirty secrets to hide. 10 years later, I was a 23 year old divorcee and I can really empathize with the feeling Sissy has of being trapped in an unhappy

marriage. I think my favorite part of the story, however, is how flawed each and every character was. No one was perfect and Sissy set herself up for the consequences of her bad decisions. She ruined more than just her own life. This is my favorite fluff novel and I've read it many times.

A poignant and hilarious story of Sissy LeBlanc, who holds nothing back.

This is the book I won in the Book Chat book swap. A really fun deal.

This wasn't what I thought it was going to be. I was expecting light southern chick lit, but what I got was a bit more dark and edgy. Sissy LeBlanc definitely has a life full of scandal and with it being the 1950's everyone is poking their noses into it. I really liked this, it was an enjoyable

Eh. A southern housewife has a midlife crisis and ponders a dalliance with her old high-school sweetheart. There are some nice little twists that make for a decent read, but nothing terribly special.

One thing that struck me as unusual: can anybody think of another book where the protagonist is an

adult, but the main antagonist is a child? (Other than Dennis the Menace, of course... and he's not really mean-spirited enough to be a true villain). I had trouble thinking of another unsympathetic child character in a book that doesn't also have a protagonist of similar age.

Murder, mayhem and the southern Belle's tips for life. bounces between 1956 and 1941 mostly, with a tidbit from current day and a surprise about who Peewee murdered and who the senate candidate is.
