Juli Baker, a second grader, can't wait for the new neighbors to move in across the street. The minute she sees Bryce, who is also in second grade, she is smitten. Seen through both Juli and Bryce's eyes, in alternating chapters, we watch the ups and downs of their relationship over a 6 year
Show More
period.

This was pretty good. Flipped didn't just focus on Juli and Bryce's relationship, but also included relationships between family members, neighbors, and school friends. It was a good example of teens learning about themselves and others, and was presented in a fun, emotional way. I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn't a lot of extreme childish behavior. I think pre-teens would enjoy this, as well as young adults. (4/5)

Boy and girl are seven. Girl loves boy; boy detests girl. Fast-forward to middle school. Boy starts developing feelings for the girl and has a hard time dealing with them. Kind of cute, but overused premise.

I just reread Flipped and was reminded what a wonderful, charming book it is. It has a little bit romance, humor, and explores what it is to be a "deeper" person. This book was a HUGE hit with book club this year. Told in alternate chapters from Bryce's and Juli's point of view, it is a great
Show More
choice for a guy or girl.

Told in alternating chapters from Bryce's and Juli's points of view, this is the story of a friendship... sorta. Juli has had a huge crush on Bryce since she was in 2nd grade. Bryce has been annoyed by the overly boisterous Juli since he moved into the house across the street from her. He puts up
Show More
with her until they're both in the 8th grade. Then Bryce does something that changes things forever. And what he learns will begin to change his opinion of Juli. Could it be that things have FLIPPED?

A sweet story with some more serious parts to it. The alternating viewpoint is neat because you get the same events seen through two totally different pairs of eyes.

Bryce was the new kid on the block and Juli was the over-exuberant next door neighbor who fell head over heels in love with him at the first sight of his big blue 7 year old eyes. Unfortunately instead of becoming friends, Juli's unflagging devotion over the ensuing years made Bryce wary of the
Show More
tempest in girl form that seemed to follow him everywhere. However, now that Bryce and Juli are in 8th grade something has changed. Suddenly Juli has discovered that there is more to the world around her than Bryce and Bryce has discovered the tree climbing, chicken raising plague has a new appeal for him that he cannot control. What will Bryce and Juli do now that everything that they felt about each other before has flipped?

Told from the dual points of view of both Bryce and Juli, Flipped is more than just a coming of age story, it is a tale of self-discovery for both Bryce and Juli. Also interesting was the strong family presence in the book and how Bryce and Juli dealt with their own changing perceptions of everything they once took for granted. With an innocence you usually do not see in teen novels today Flipped would be a great novel for those in middle school and up. Also, the cover is absolutely adorable!!

Juli loved Bryce from the beginning. He didn't. Then, Bryce fell in love with Juli but now she doesn't like him.

Who cares?

While Julie obsesses over the new family moving in next door, she notices there is a boy in the family. She really likes him, and he thinks shes very annoying. But what she starts to notice is that all she knows about him is what he looks like on the outside. While she has this revelation, he
Show More
starts to realize, Julie might not be what she seems, she might be a lot better...

It is a good book for people who like romance and drama. I thought it was fun to read andit is at a teenage level in some parts but other than that it is wonderfunl for everyone.

I really liked this book. It was so funny to read the two separate sides of the stories between the boy and girl. This book relates to every young child, whether they admit it or not. This brought back some funny memories of myself with boys when I was young.

This is an excellent novel presenting the same story with very different perspectives. Half of the novel is written from Bryce's point of view, while the other half is from Julianna's point of view. It is a really interesting way of seeing how an incident can be seen in very different ways.

Bryce and Julianna go from seven to thirteen in this novel where each child tells their perception of their first meeting and many incidents, thereafter. Bryce hates Julianna at first but then comes to admire her just as she comes to see how shallow and passive he is. secondary plot themes include
Show More
a mentally impaired uncle that Julianna meets for the first time and a grandfather who is grieving the loss of his wife after moving in with Bryce's family. This book is a bit slow moving but may be liked by young girls trying to make sense out of boys disdain for females, suddenly changing to interest as they begin puberty.

LOVE this story! Alternates between young girl and boy over their growing-up years. Have not met anyone who didn't enjoy this book.

This book was really good. When I started reading it I couldn't stop. At first I wasn't so sure about it but after a couple of chapters it was good. This is about a boy named Bryce who moved into this neighborhood where Juli lived. Ever scince the first day they met she wouldn't leave him alone.

Summary:
Boys: Just moved in when the crazy girl from across the street decides to start stalking him and he just can't quite seem to shake her off.
Girls: The new boy just moved in and they're in love....or are they?
Review: This is a good book that takes patience but is overall really good because
Show More
it shows it from the boys' point of view and the girls' point of view. So if your a girl or a boy you can still read it!

I'm always a little skeptical about teen romance books, but this one is great. It's more about how these two young people change through the years. I think that the best thing about this book is that the author wrote from Bryce's perspective and the same situation from Julianna's perspective. In
Show More
teaching this book, the literary aspect of perspective would be easier learned with the whole back and forth of the characters. Additionally, life lessons can be taught regarding perspective. Teens and mature tweens will love this book.

Flipped is a very funny and heartwarming story that shows there are always two sides to a story. This book is written from both the perspectives of Bryce and Juli, the main characters. It teaches that life is not always as it seems, and there may be more to a story than what is just on the surface.
This book would be very enjoyable for most middle school girls.

This was a great read for any young adult trying to find where they fit in. They voices really show through, and you can create concrete feelins for the characters. There is a lot of relatible things they two teens go through, and I think that it would benefit about any reader young or old to think
Show More
of things from anothers perspective.

I forgot that books for young adults are not always written the same books for adults are, case in point :Flipped. Flipped tells the same story about Juli moving into the neighborhood and falling in love with the boy across the street. What makes it unique though is that you see both sides of the
Show More
story, from both Bryce and Juli's perspectives. The story becomes redundant rather quickly and the plot is not that engaging. Juli's family seems a bit odd, and so does Bryce's grandpa. I didn't become attached to any of the characters and felt like the story dragged a little bit.

This is a happy, cute book to read. I like how it shows different points of view, from each character's eyes. It really affects how you look at the different events.

stalks him, and from Juli how she's lost her heart to Bryce. As they get older events force Bryce and Juli to see each other with fresh eyes.
I thought Bryce's changing relationship with his bigoted father was especially well developed.
There is a wonderful and honest side plot with a well loved, but
Show More
difficult uncle with special needs, and the sacrifices his family makes to support him.
I'd give this to fans of realistic family stories, especially those who hate weepies.

This is a very humorous and poignant story about growing up and how your views on things and people may change dramatically. I really love this book, it has some laugh out loud parts, and some parts that make you want to cry out in frustration. I love how it all flows together, making it a great

read.

Hilarious, yet touching book about a girl and a boy who are neighbors and have totally different views of each other. The book flips back and forth between their point of views, covering different versions of the same story.

The old saying about how there are two sides to every story comes to life in the book Flipped. Neighbors Julianna and Bryce share many of the same experiences, but they each see things from their own unique perspectives. Julianna flipped for Bryce the moment he moved in across the street from her
Show More
back in second grade. Bryce sees Juli as nothing but a pest for the next six years, often going out of his way to avoid interacting with her in any meaningful way. Van Draanen alternates the narrator of each chapter between the two main characters. Gradually, their feelings for each other begin to flip as Bryce realizes how he’s misjudged the free-spirited, compassionate Juli and she sees how he’s just as boorish as the other boys in school. Both characters come to see how they are perceived by others and make changes to better themselves as people. Van Draanen realistically captures the adolescent voices of both the male and female characters.

Bryce and Juli, two very different children and teens, tell their own sides to their interactions with each other in this clever novel. A supporting cast of characters nicely set off their differences and how the decisions they make now will continue to affect who they are as people as they grow up.
