Sculptures of Arhat

"...Ye Qin Zhu's stories of Arhat is the story of a sculptor in the forest, making sculptural works, imbued with the vision of the natural world, but dwelling on the art whose making never ceases. Arhat works, and reflects on his works, and he does so together with the living things around him in the forest. Yet where the simplest possibility would be that the artist is inspired by nature and natural things, a very different sense comes through the images and tales: that nature and art are hand in hand, each expanding the perspectives and capabilities of the other. In this way, the Buddhist vision that all is interconnected becomes for Ye, materially and aesthetically, that all is art. The work of the artist is to transform and transfigure what is already aesthetic and artistic.
