Every chapter the plot tosses and turns. You can never guess how the story will turn and until the very end good and evil are hard to be differentiated.

This was my first Harlan Coben book. It was amazing - I read it over a weekend and could not put it down. The characters are fantastic (I really like Squares) and every time you think you have it figured out things change. The ending was great. I will definitely read more by this author.

This is a can't-put-it-down thriller. This books has more twists and turns than any book I've read recently. Just when I thought I knew what was going on and had it figured out, the book turns around and goes in another direction. Not to mention that each character proves to be an enigma.

kind-hearted soul and his family's past keeps rearing it's ugly head. He's in love with a woman who is not who he thinks she is, his brother is not who he thinks he is, and his past girlfriend is someone who surprises him continually until the end of the book. Even the true bad guys are a surprise.
This is my favorite Harlan Coben book, hands-down.

Pretty good. I like this author a lot. He does a good job of setting up a story.

Make sure your safety harness is fastened tight, dear reader because you are in for a wild ride! Full of double crosses and double double crosses this one will have you on the edge of your seat until the last page.

WOW! An outstanding, can't put it down, page-turner if I have ever read one. You think you have it figured it then BAM, you don't! A must read for anyone who enjoys a good suspense book!! Highly recommended!!

One of my favorite books by this author. The other is Tell No One. Both are very un-put-downable & kept me up til all hours to finish.

Great beach book. Lots of twists and turns, keeps you guessing right until the end. The hero, Will Klien, is a unlikely and unwilling hero; and he has a great sidekick in Squares, who has loads of 'street cred' and also happens to be a world famous Yoga instructor.

This was really good. It started a little bit slow, but then once I got into it, I did not want to put it down. It is your basic murder mystery book, but there are so many twists and turns it kept me guessing right up to the end.

When Will Klein's mother dies he discovers that his older brother, suspected of murdering Will's ex-girlfriend and long presumed dead, is alive. Then Will's fiancee disappears and Will is forced to face the truth of his past. With its twists and turns in the plot this is trademark Coben as he sets

up and then destroys the reader's assumptions and is never predictable

As with all Coben novels - I loved this one and all its twists and turns and I loved the epilogue on this. I truly hope to see Squares again, maybe in a Myron/Win novel.

My only real dislike with this book, which I listened to in the audio format, was that it was read by Jonathan Marowz (who's read

most of the Myron Bolitar books). It was difficult to seperate this book from one of the Bolitar series (which wasn't all bad), but Will Klein had the same sort of quick wit, one-liners, and vocabulary as Myron.

This is the story of Will Klein, who lost both his first love and his brother on the same day eleven years ago. His ex-girlfriend, Julie Miller was found brutally strangled, and his brother became the subject of an international manhunt accused of the crime. When his new girlfriend, Sheila,
Show More
disappears too, Will starts to delve into the past, not always liking what he finds...This was not the sort of formulaic mystery story that I am used to. Usually, a body appears within the first chapter or so, there are various suspects and eventually the mystery is solved. In this book, it starts quite slowly, and reveals bit by bit the events of eleven years ago. Also, bodies don't really "appear" as such, as they are referred to instead. However, once I got used to Coben's style and the style of the book, it was actually very gripping, and there were so many twists and turns that I was left feeling very dizzy! Each time you thought you were close to the solution, things were turned upside down again so it certainly kept me kon my toes.Towards the end it became very exciting and I had to keep reading to the bitter end...

This is the third of Harlan Coben's books that I've read. They've all been consistantly fast reads with entertaining plots. Although, there is often the plot twist you can see coming, there is just as often the unexpected twist. Well worth a look.

I have always like this author's books but I have to say that this one didn't come up to snuff as much as his others have. It's a good thriller with twists and turns but something was lacking I feel.

Edge of your seat thriller. One of Coben's best.

my first novel by Coben, and will seek out more! Very twisty mystery - my favorite kind.

Enjoyed this book. It keeps you guessing and liked the plot twists. This is my second book by Coben and I will certainly seek out more of them. Good read!

Brilliantly plotted thriller with multiple twists which, satisfyingly, I mostly didn't see coming but in retrospect they seemed inevitable. Not the best writing or characters, but what do you expect?
LibraryThing member gopfolk
I've never read anything from this author so I was, as always, a little apprehensive as to the quality of the writing. I was very impressed with the overall story. With the exception of 'Squares' all of the characters were pretty good and realistic. I just could not buy into the 'Squares'

character…seemed like a character that the author created just to branch some tough issues.
The storyline was exciting and with twists that I just didn't see. I was intrigued up to the very last page. I will definitely read another book by this author!

“Gone for Good” is the second Harlan Coben book I’ve read (listened to) and I enjoyed it immensely. I can’t recall a book with more twists and turns, right up until the very end.

“Gone for Good” is about Will Klein and his presumed-dead brother Ken, who’d been accused of killing
Show More
Will’s former girlfriend Julie. After his mother dies of cancer, Will finds out his brother is in fact alive. Soon thereafter, Will’s new girlfriend inexplicably disappears. The FBI questions Will on her disappearance and implies he may be a suspect. With the help of Julie’s younger sister and his friend Squares, Will searches for the truth. Where is his brother? Did Ken kill Julie? Was he involved with the mob (as the FBI claims) and if so, to what extent?

Even through I got used to it after a while, I didn’t particularly like the narrator. He elongated the end of words like he was whining or exhausted. But this is of course irrelevant if you read the book. Either way, I’d strongly encourage you to check out “Gone for Good.”

An appalling piece of trash. Gone for Good is an overwrought, cliche-ridden mess featuring implausible characters (especially the ex-Nazi KKK yoga instructor who also happens to be best buddies with every important person in the galaxy, and who saves homeless kids, too; I wish I were exaggerating,

but if anything I'm understating the ridiculousness of this character; oh, and then there's 'the Ghost' [excellent creativity with the moniker, Harlan], a 'pale assassin' who's so utterly preposterous you won't be able to suppress your giggles, and, hey, I'd better get the hell out of this set of parentheses), a silly, 'here's something I made up I'll bet you never thought would happen' plot, and endless, excruciating passages about feelings. Just about every character in the book, especially the protagonist, spends loooong stretches crying, sniveling, moaning, holding someone desperately just to survive, and then bawling some more. I can't even begin to grasp the reasons for Coben's popularity.

What a discovery, Harlan Coben is definitely a writer I want to read more of. He plays with the assumptions 'trained thriller readers' have. Most writers play by the rules and you know there is going to be an unexpected ending, but Coben gives even this rule a twist. He really is a brilliant author.

In the final lucid moments before her death, Will Klein's mother tells him his older brother, Ken, is still alive. Will doesn't know whether to believe her or not. Ken disappeared eleven years ago, after becoming a suspect in the rape/murder of Will's former girlfriend. Shortly after the funeral

Ken's current girlfriend, Sheila, disappears as well. Will and and his best friend begin their own investigation and soon discover Sheila isn't who he thinks she is. Eventually they find a connection between Ken and Sheila. To say anything more would be a spoiler.

What a great book. I was riveted from start to finish. Surprises and twists are scattered throughout the story and just when you feel like you know what's going on, the rug will be swept out from underneath your feet. Coben always delivers fascinating characters and both Squares and The Ghost are just phenomenal. Not many writers have such a gift with realistic dialogue. This is an edge of your seat suspense novel and I absolutely recommend it.

This was pretty much a waste of time, to be honest. I thought it sounded okay from the description and the first few pages were okay but it sort of just got pretty mediocre from there on.
The characters were dull. Will felt so incredibly generic- there was absolutely nothing making him a distinct

or memorable character. It felt like I'd read about him ten times before- he was just very flat.
The story itself was all right but not enough to warrant four hundred pages. All the twists were really predictable and felt like the writer kept changing his mind about where he wanted the story to go.
Overall, not an interesting read and not one I would recommend.
