The primary focus of this book, therefore, is to study the interrelationships between HIV stigma and racial discrimination (also known as the double stigma) experienced by African and Caribbean families as they struggle to live normal with HIV in Canada. I will then examine current models of healthcare practice and delivery in the HIV clinic on the other, in particular by examining the responses of seven healthcare providers to the double stigma. Consequently, this study assesses the adequacy of these responses to the psycho-spiritual and psycho-social needs of these families by providing specific direction toward constructive change in healthcare practices, policies, and norms, and addresses, to a limited extent, by engaging African and Caribbean community responses to the double stigma.… (more)
