I picked this up on a road trip for $.10, because all the books I'd brought were - well, good books. And I'd come down with stomach flu and I needed some completely content-less pap that could keep me distracted but I wouldn't mind puking on. This book was *exactly* what I was looking for.

bad, as pulp paranormal paperbacks from the 70s go; it's readable, the authors have some concept of structure and logic; it's got some stuff in it that isn't the same old stories; it isn't remarkably slanted one way or the other. But two things stood out to me: They stretched the definition of "monster" to the breaking point, and possibly past it. Okay, I'll give you UFO abductions and demon possession, but - Peking Man? The Bermuda Triangle? Rii-iight.

Also, in some sections (most obviously the obligatory Erich von Daniken discussion) it's pretty obvious that the authors are writing with an undertone of "seriously, does anybody actually believe this crap?" Which is great, but then they seem to feel obligated to still add a paragraph at the end talking about possibility and how This Could Be Real. Own your doubts, people!
