This is a thorough guide to planning and executing a retreat with a magical and/or spiritual focus. I was impressed by the depth of coverage: the author discusses the different types and lengths of retreats, as well as reminding readers of mundane details like telling people where you're going for

safety reasons and remembering to plan for meals. The heart of the book is her suggestions of retreat themes: arts and crafts, home arts, pathworking, magical skills, green magic, and so on, which left me wanting to plan about six different retreats for this weekend! The author has included templates for mapping out a retreat which I think will be a great help for keeping track of all the details. She also included recommended book lists and a number of appendices. The focus is on solitary retreats, but Pesznecker has included one chapter on how to adapt for a group retreat. I wish the book had been better proofread, though. Typos are annoying but not fatal, but at least one author's name is wrong (the co-author of Astrology for Yourself is Douglas Bloch, not Douglas Birch). In general, though, this is a well-thought-out book that will likely inspire readers to create all sorts of wonderful retreats for themselves.
