Founded 1964 in the UK by the Pagan Movement in Britain and Ireland. Published at Bicester England by Joseph Wilson, an American Serviceman stationed in England. ARL's copies start in 1970. By the 1970's The Waxing Moon / The Crystal Well was being published in an International edition in the UK by Wilson, and in an American edition by "Thomas Giles" (John M. Hansen) of Philadelphia PA. After Lammas 1971, Giles published his newsletter as The Crystal Well to avoid confusion with
Wilson's The Waxing Moon. Rebecca Judge Weaver was the Crystal Well's editor. When Wilson returned to the United States (by 1975?) he continued to publish The Waxing Moon, now as the official communication of the Tradition known as 173, in Sunland CA, associated with TOTEG, Temple of the Elder Gods. By the mid-1970's The Crystal Well passed from Thomas Giles to "Ed Fitch" also in Southern CA, and became a large format glossy Pagan magazine, illustrated with photographs of knights and damsels of the SCA, garbed in medieval finery.
