I really enjoyed learning about gargoyles (and grotesques) in this book, which was a combination of photographs and descriptions in paragraph form of each gargoyle. The artwork and history made for a fascinating read! One thing I learned is that the artists and carvers had to think about the

underside of the gargoyles, since that's what most people see, especially for ones at higher elevations. Also, gargoyles often reflected the times during which they were carved.
