A nice list of different characters from the ancient world (Greece and Rome). This book will make an excellent reference when reading a book that refers to a certain historic person. My only complaint, and it not really the books fault, since it was originally published in 1971 - is that the

diagrams could be designed better, and that the plates of art and photographs could be inset with the text. A reader needs to page back and forth between the image and the subject. It was a bit distracting.

I read this a few pages at a time, it its entirety, This is probably not the recommended way of reading a book like this, but it does give a reader a good idea of what is included in this book.

This book was probably extremely useful in 1971, but has since lost some of its use. Wikipedia provides the same information and often more on these characters from Ancient History than this book does and may even have more updated information. Nevertheless this book is far more trustworthy than

Wikipedia and in that sense could be very useful.
