Description

This is the seventh volume in the British Museum Catalogue of Hieratic Papyri from the New Kingdom period. Five separate manuscripts are grouped under the heading of magical and medical papyri. The BM EA 9997 and 10309 consists almost entirely of incantations against serpents. BM EA 10042 represents the larger part of the Harris Magical Papyrus. The longest manuscript in this volume is BM EA 10059, better known as the London Medical Papyrus, which has not been studied as a whole since Wreszinski's publication in 1912. BM EA 10085 + 10105 consist of five columns of the same papyrus, including conjurations of snake bite and incantations. The final papyrus, BM EA 10902, is purely medical text in an unfortunately fragmentary condition.
