Second in the series about Maggie O'Neill, a young woman who works in a collectibles shop called Enchantments. Maggie's boss, Liss, tells her from the first that she is a witch. Maggie, who has strugled with being Catholic, likes Liss very much and begins to dsicover her own psychic powers and to
Show More
understand witches aren't all bad, espcially as she meets others like Liss.

In this book a young woman is murdered, and it really shakes up the small town in Inidana that Maggie lives in. On the day she died, Amanda had bought a clock in Enchantments, so Maggie is drawn into the case.

I really like the characters in this series, but I did think there was a plot flaw in this book. Maggie does something that seems to not make much sense, and because of ti she winds up in danger in the climactic scene. In spite of that I enjoyed the book.

A much better story than the first. The book is tighter and the mystery is a hard one to solve. It takes to the last chapter to find out where the story os going. The characters are mostly in the background to Maggie's sluthing and she spends more time actively trying to solve the mystery instead
Show More
of reacting emotionally like the first book. STill not Agatha Christie, but a good fluffy mystery. I look forwards to the third book.

This is the second in this "bewitched" mystery series and IMO it just wasn't
up to the same caliber as the first. I had whodunit figured out way early
in the tale, and that's always disappointing when that happens. The
characters weren't really developed much further with this book, and it
didn't
Show More
move the backstory forward much at all. I'll have to give this one a
3 because it certainly wasn't above average, and I'll probably give the
series one more try before I give up on it.

In the second book in the Bewitching Mystery Series, Maggie finds herself involved in another mysterious death and is somehow drawn into trying to solve the mystery. This time a teenage diva is dead and clues link her to a sexy blog and even sexier pictures.

I have enjoyed both of the books in the
Show More
series so far. I like the paranormal/wicca elements. They are not overplayed, but are definitely driving Maggie's intuition. There is a great deal about faith of all kinds in the book. That might be a turn off for some, but it is not preachy. I did figure out the murderer, but that did not spoil if for me, the characters are good and I was not really sure until the very end.

Madelyn Alt has left me wanting more...

Maggie has managed to stumble her way into investigating yet another death. A young girl in town was found near the river. At first it's suspected that it was an accident, but later the word murder is whispered.

When a visit to the dead girls mother lands
Show More
Maggie in a precarious position, she has no choice but to investigate the murder. With the help of computer wiz and all around bad boy Marcus, she ends up cracking the case... unfortunately, she discovers who the murderer is right about the time he shows up and gets her alone. Will she make it out of yet another murder investigation in one piece?

The book had me from page one and refused to let me go until I was finished. Reading it cover to cover in less than a day, it's definitely holding a place of honor on my bookshelf!

Liked book one better than book 2

Ok, I enjoyed this one. Maybe not as much as the first, there were things that rankled me. But it is a cozy, entertaining read. As I was reading, it irritated me when suddenly we were at the doctor for our 'yearly exam'. (girls, you know what I mean?) Did we really need that in the middle of this
Show More
kind of mystery? If she had to go to the doctors, couldn't it just be a cold or something? I like mysteries for escapism, not to remind me of what I should be doing... And it could be just me (and I know you need it to make the theme work), maybe it's the Christian upbringing I had, but the witch/magick parts tended to give me the heebee-geebees. Not enough to take away from the book, but enough that it would take me momentarily out of the story. It was nice to hear Maggie (the main character) say at one point “I don't know what I believe”. I think that was an appropriate response for book 2. Instead of, you are right, I am a complete convert, and now I know everything. (not mentioning any authors). I liked that it was the type of mystery that dropped clues, so it was possible for the reader to solve, if you were paying attention. As opposed to some (which I don't personally consider REAL mysteries) where the murderer seems to suddenly appear at the end. I like to play a game, where when I have a guess who-done-it, I write the page and date and who I think it is, down on a piece of paper. Then when I am done I see if I am right. This time I guessed on page 230, and I was right. With all that said, I hated the climax/ending. For me it was unrealistic and hard to swallow. But it was not enough to keep me from wanting to read the next one. =D

Well this is better than the first book in the series.....

But I am gonna tell you...I liked the mystery part...and I liked the "paranormal" part, because I live like that...but I do not like dumb-bunny scaredy-cats...and I do not like run on description...that is just filler and has little or no
Show More
bearing on the story.....

I have just finished this second book, which was better...and not as much description...but there might have been, because I skimmed the "blathering" parts! Oh and the dumb-bunny scaredy-cat hasn't evolved much...but it has only been two months in the book's time frame from the last murder.

Hmmmmm......

So...the Hottie Cop isn't talking to her (you know he doesn't like paranormals) because she opened her mouth before he could tell her his reasoning for arresting the G-Witch (to keep her out of harms way & get to the real killer).... She's withholding major evidence from the police....I told you she's a dumb-bunny. She still works in a paranormal shop but gets spooked when the paranormal happens around her (well Duh! Look where you work & who you spend time with)...and she still will not tell her mother or sister to stop dumping on her!

But the mystery was ok...this young WRAP (White Rich American Princess) gets murdered Found dead in the water, but no water in her lungs, a bullet in the back of her head....the gal has a roll of banknotes that she didn't get from her parents, she has two guys on the line, she writes a secret sex blog (but all the h.s kids know about it), she takes spy photos of herself & the men she S****S....and hides the evidence. Her mother finds out (after the girl gets murdered) and gives the evidence to dumb-bunny scaredy-cat...who instead of turning it over to the police...decides to take a look at the photos...bad move.....

A Charmed Death, the second bewitching mystery in the series, finds Maggie settling into the new life that fate has thrown her way. As a character, she has grown in terms of confidence and comfort, and her narrative reflects the positive changes in her life. When tragedy once again strikes her
Show More
small town Maggie keeps her wits about her, and is ready to help in any way she's asked.

I was not as enthralled with A Charmed Death as I was the previous novel, and I found myself constantly bothered by Alt's use of dialects. The teenagers are wooden and forced, Felicity sounds a bit ridiculous, and the Amish member of N.I.G.H.T.S. had me rolling my eyes. I enjoyed the development of Maggie's character (and Marcus' character) much more than the two-dimensional "sidekicks" of the novel, and I'm hoping the third in the series will continue to flesh out the characters that really "matter."
