Description
This book is the first attempt to look at the changing figure of the druid as a continuum from classical times to the present. The book examines our dualistic understanding to druids (druid as both priest and shaman) through the fields of anthropology, folklore and archaeology from the Celtic society in the iron Age, through medieval Welsh and Irish texts, to the resurgence of interest in druidism in the 18th century. The final section looks at the popular image of the druid in late 20th century Britain and America.
