style-those based wholly on Chinese boxing systems, the 'Shorin' group and the kobudo and ti styles-and helps to show, with the use of lineage charts, how these karate styles (which are now taught world-wide) can be traced back though Okinawa to roots in China. 'Secret techniques' include previously undocumented methods of attack and defence, as well as breathing, relaxation and energy circulation exercises.

Mark Bishop holds a 3rd Dan in Goju-ryu, a 4th Dan in Shorin-ryu karate and kobudo, and a 6th dan in Okinawan te. He also has black belt gradings in judo and aikido. For fifteen years he has lived and trained in Okinawa.
