a few years studying kendo and aikido, further developing his insight into Japanese budo concepts. In the summer of 1990, he was sent by Tsuruoka Sensei to train at the Japan Karate Association headquarters in Tokyo.

In 1994 Mr. Bowerbank became the founding president of the Tsuruoka Karate Association of Ontario. The following year he designed, and -with the aid of fellow karate-ka-built the Tsuruoka Canadian budokai honbu dojo in Toronto, Canada.

Masami Tsuruoka is the founding father of karate-do in Canada. Since 1958 he has dedicated his life to teaching what had been a hisotircllliy protected aret to peaople in Weastern culture. His ocncepts, princoples and methods have helped karate-ka of all ranks and styles develop to teh best of their abilities in all facts of life. This book is the first publication to be based on the life and teachings of this insightful and charismatic man.
