Library's review

We have to learn from tai-chi chuan:

Masatoshi Nakayama, Head master at Japan Karate Association, Professor at Takkushoku University, and Director of the Hoitsugan Karate Training Hall.

'Mr. Yang Ming-Shi's movements are perfectly balanced and his circular motions are rhythmical and beautiful. Just

like the old saying, 'Flowing water never becomes stale,' his movements, though calm and gentle, breath with life. Mr. Yang's personality mirrors the spirit of Tai-Chi Chuan. Though gentle in appearance, Mr. Yang is sturdy in spirit. He always carries an air of perfect composure. He is the avery incarnation of the spirit of Tai-Chi Chuan.

Mr. Yang and I have been good friends for more than 20 years thrugh karate training. Our karate-an art of defense-has a great deal to learn from Tai-Chi Chuan in order to attain its loftiest ideal. We must not become so absorbed in learning the technique that we lose sight of the inner world of this martial art.'

Karate and tai-chi chuan:

Hirokazu Kanazawa, Director and Dean of the International Dlivision of the Japan Karate Association, and Eighth Dan Holder.

'Despite the fact that Mr. Yang Ming-Shi already was a prominent figure and a master instructor of Tai-Chi Chian, he did not reveal this to anybody when he joined the Japan Karate Association. And he devoted himslef to karate training quietly. Today he is the holder of the Japan Karate Association's title of sixth dan and is a karate instructor.

I believe that 'gentle in appearance but sturdy in spirit,' which is the exact description of Mr. Yang, is the ultimate not only of Tai-Chi Chuan but also of the Japanese bushido or the way of samurai.

I think that 'gentleness in appearance:' is synonymous with peace and 'sturdiness in spirit' with invincibility. The greater the centripetal force, the greater the centrifugal force. I always remember Mr. Yang's teaching that the basic principle of Tai-Chi Chuan is to learn the meaning of Heaven, Earth, Man as well as Yin and Yang and put it into practice in life.

I, as a karate devotee and a student of Tai-Chi Chuan, highly recommend this book in hope that many people throughout the world will take up Tai-Chi Chuan and practise this martial art in order to cutivate health and beauty.
