critical, dangerous incidents. The text is comprehensively documented, footnoted and interspersed with clear examples and explanatory asides.

Undoubtedly, the most unique aspect of this book is the expertise of the author. Acquired during almost 60 years of combined law enforcement experience, it reflects a blend of the legal with the practical that is unprecendented. It also ensures faithfulness to the U.S. Supreme Court's admontion that a proper review of deadly force must be from the 'perspective of a reasonable officer on the scene.'

The result is a book that stands alone as a source of information for the law enforcement and legal communities,. Judges, educators, the media, students, and anyone else who desires to be informed on this highly important topic will find it to be of great interest and benefit.

'...it is admirably clear and easy to understand. It combines John's unique depth of knowledge of he law with Pat's comprehensive and extensive practical expertise in weapons and deadly force factors. Reading it will make for better cops, and for cops who will be more likely to return home alive at end of watch after having done good work while on duty.'-Tom Clancy
