Library's review

'Fitness makes for joy in living,' says Nicholas Kounovsky. 'Exercise should be fun.'

To Kounovsky, no exercise plan should lead to exhaustion. You should feel good while exercising, and you should get from your exercises a sense of well-being and increased energy in your everyday life.

Sixometirc tests, which he originated, Kounovsky's exercise programme is tailored to fit the individual. Kounovsky is so confident of the success of his methods that at his studio the tradition is to bet a bottle of champagne on the student's achieving a particular goal that seemed impossible at the start.

Repeated urging by his sudents and by several doctors led Kounovsky to write this book. The Joy of Feeling Fit details more than 300 'engineered exercises' you can do at home, adapting the Kunovsky studio programme to private use for the very first time.

Born in Odessa, Russia, and educated in France, arrived in New York from Paris in 1940. Trained as both a gymnast and aeronautical engineer, he combined his interests by devising a system of engineered exercise, called 'Sixometry,' based on similarities beween human anatomy and machines. He has lectured and taught his method throughout the United States, and has frequently appeared on television. As an exponent of physical fitness, he has served as consultant to various national and international organizations, foundations, schools, and publications.

'Kunovsky's theory on exercise is so sensible and scientific that it hardly sounds revolutionary-which it is.'-Harpers Bazaar

'The acknowledged dean of the leotard set...'-New York Magazine

'Kounovsky counts six factors of physical well-being...and any system that stresses any one at the expense of the other is wrong.'-Fortune

'Physical fitness, says expert Nocholas Kounovsky, is like a good cocktail...ou don't know how good it is until you taste it.'-Newsday

'Nicholas Kounovsky corrects figure faults-stimulates the exhausted, relaxes the tense. He is quite unique in his work.'-Vogue

'Nicholas Kounovsky is an outstanding physical educator. His theories are sound, his practices are sensible, his byword is moderation.'-Town & Country
