renowned for its repertoire of kicking techniques, ranging from simpple front kicks to jumping twirling crescent kicks to the dreaded tornado kick, and includes open- and closed-hand strikes and a number of weapons forms.

Sifu Lai Hung was born in Sunhing, China, in 1938, and began training in Chineses marital arts at the age of eight. He has trained with many well-known masters, including Lee Nam ('Master Iron Palm'), and, after moving with his family to Hong Kong in 1949, Lung Tze-hsiang (traditional Northern Shaolin, classical Chinese weaons, Yang style t'ai chi ch'uan, and various forms of Ch'i Kung), Li Ch'ou (Choy Lay Fut), Ch'en Chen (Choy Lay Fut), and Yeh Yu-t'ing. Lai Hung also studied and became skilled in the practice of Chinese herbal medicines and bone healing. Durng the late 1950s and the 60s, Lai Hung earned a reputation as one of the world's fiercest and most respected full-contact fighters, undefeated in international tournaments in Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan. In 1971, while visiting California, he was enocuraged by Bruce Lee to open a martial arts school in the United States. In 1972, he opened a branch of Lai Hung Chinese Arts Institiute in San Francisco, and he now teaches in Richmond, Davis, and Sacramento, California.

Brian Klingborg began training with Sifu Lai in 1988. He lives in New York City, where he works in publishing and as a screenwriter.
