A Stranger's Game by Colleen Coble is an intense, fast moving story. Torie has gone back to her childhood home to see how her friend died. Someone is trying to chase her away and she turns to Joe for help.
It is well written with caring characters that kept me waiting to find out how Torie's friend

and mother died. There is a second suspense story within this one that deals with Joe's ship. This is a good island story to read. It is filled with action, suspense, mystery and some romance. The story focuses on family relationship and trusting God. This is a good clean story that I enjoyed reading very much.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this story, this is my honest review.

In A Stranger’s Game, Victoria Bergstrom has travelled to Jekyll Island to investigate the suspicious death of her best friend. The resort hotel on the island is owned by her father, Anton Bergstrom, but Victoria doesn’t want the employees to know who she really is, so she has assumed the

identity of Torie Berg, the new IT hire, so she can dig for information without the staff hiding anything from her. But soon after her arrival creepy things start happening causing her to believe that similar things surely led to the untimely death of her friend. Luckily, Torie finds an ally and protector in Joe Abbott who works security for the resort and who also trains sea lions for the Navy. Can Torie and Joe find the clues that prove Torie’s friend was murdered before Torie suffers the same fate?

I enjoyed reading A Stranger’s Game. It was well-paced and full of action. Torie and Joe both have compelling backstories, so you can’t help rooting for them to be together. I always enjoy when there’s a little bit of history involved in the story, so I enjoyed learning a little bit about the history of the Federal Reserve. Overall, this story is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Colleen Coble — a clean romance with some element of faith, lots of action, and lots of drama. An enjoyable read.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars
In her latest novel, Colleen Coble tells a spell-binding tale of an heiress going under cover in the hopes she can solve the mystery surrounding her best friend’s demise. Torie

Bergstrom’s father is a magnate in the hotel business that he owns worldwide. Torie begins working at the hotel on Jekyll Island in the IT department, and not even her aunt who runs the establishment recognizes who Torie is until later in the plot in a surprising way for readers!
On the island, working part time in security, is Joe who also owns a company that works with the Navy in training sea lions. When Torie’s life is traumatized by as a yet unknown person, Joe begins to help aid Torie in finding out more about her friend’s death. In Joe’s eyes, if they can find out what really happened to Lisbeth, Torie’s best friend, then the threats against Torie will stop. But will they be able to solve the problem before it’s too late?
The story has more going on than what I shared above. I found it interesting that the Federal Reserve has a history tied to Jekyll Island, which the author brings into the plot as the story reaches it climactic conclusion. Colleen Coble wrote a very interesting and spell-binding tale that also captures the heart of the reader. I loved how Torie realizes her heart can be healed from past pain and be open to a possible romance with Joe. The other touching relationship that occurs in the book is between Joe and his daughter Hailey, who he is raising alone since losing his wife. Personally, I had never heard of this island located in Georgia, but it sounds like a beautiful vacation spot to visit.

This story had so many things that I enjoy in a book. To name a few, it had an action-packed suspenseful plot, fabulous characters, romance, coastal southern setting, and a sea mammal sidekick that I just adored. This novel takes place at Jekyll Island where Torie goes to figure out what really
Show More
happened to her best friend because she does not believe Lisbeth took her own life. While there, she meets Joe and his daughter Hailey. Joe trains sea lions for the Navy to detect intruders, I found that part so fascinating that our Navy uses sea mammals for this purpose.

It becomes obvious very quickly that someone does not want Torie digging up the truth. What begins is a very dangerous game to try to keep Torie from finding out what really happened to her best friend. There was plenty of action and danger for lovers of romantic suspense. At times, there seemed to be a lot going on in the book, but when all was revealed at the end of the book I was very surprised.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

My book club chose A Stranger’s Game by Colleen Coble as our selection this month. I have to be honest and say this romantic suspense was just okay. I did like main characters Torie and Joe (and Joe’s daughter was a delight), and they made a good couple as they sought to discover the source of
Show More
a number of threats. I guess the author believed that stalkers, attacks, and a couple of murders, etc. — all seemingly unconnected — would prove hard for them and the reader to discover just whodunit. I figured out a couple early into the novel. I wanted to shout “check out so-and-so”! 😉 The Jekyll Island setting was wonderful as it is one of my favorite places to visit. It was easy to visualize all the places the characters went, since I’ve been there too. While the suspense was too easy to solve (in my opinion), the romance was good. I genuinely liked Torie and Joe, and liked how they overcame obstacles and doubts to choose a future together. Specific to the audiobook: I think the narrator did a good job with accents, pacing, and expression.

Audience: Adults.

(I purchased the audiobook from Audible. All opinions expressed are mine alone.)

Highly readable and interesting setting on Jekyll Island but it doesn't hold together. Torie and Joe are inconsistent in character and the story has holes in it, but still found it to be interesting. I hadn't realised that it was Christian Fiction until the Bible verses Joe quoted sprung out of

nowhere and felt odd.
