Review: I really liked this first book in the Nikki Boyd series. The tension between Bridget missing and her own sister’s disappearance was fantastic. There was so much that happened in a short period of time. The entire book was edge of your seat thriller. There was just enough down time to catch your breath when something else would occur. The unravelling at the end was fantastic while it played out in a high tension setting. I love a mystery that keeps you going to the end. I can not wait for the next book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Lisa. I really liked all the characters in the book, they seemed real venerable and very sincere. Even the bad guy(s) were realistic!
I would like to thank Net Galley and Revell for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.

Lisa Harris is one of my favorite authors for romantic suspense. She combines fast-paced action with a dose of romance that creates a perfect blend for this reader. Her newest book, Vendetta, is another winner, and it is the first book in a new series. Yay! More to look forward to from this

talented author.

Nikki Boyd uses her past experiences to pursue missing person’s cases with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Her task force is the go-to team to find people at risk. But a new case becomes too personal as Nikki is confronted with a serial abductor/killer who may be the same man that kidnapped her sister Sarah 10 years before. As she races the clock, Nikki finds emotions getting in the way of professionalism. But is that her strength or weakness?

Vendetta is set in the Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. The familiar setting really made this book come alive for me. Characterization is strong, and I immediately felt a connection with Nikki and her friend, Tyler. Their struggles with loss and grief were honestly portrayed. I liked that both grappled with the larger issues of God’s purposes and sovereignty in a world filled with pain and sin. Here is one favorite quote — She realized their questions might never be answered. Questions of how and why. The longing for justice in a world where sometimes there simply wasn’t any. (p. 164). Vendetta can be categorized as romantic suspense, but the love story is slow to develop. In fact, the main characters are unsure of their own feelings. I really liked that too — no rushing an important aspect of the story.

Vendetta is book one in the Nikki Boyd Files, and while this case is resolved, there are still some loose ends for more stories to come.

Recommended.

Audience: adults.

Title: Vendetta (The Nikki Boyd Files #1)

Nikki Boyd is a Special Agent for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation in their Missing Persons Unit. She was a teacher, but with the abduction of her sister ten years ago, she turned her career toward
Show More
police work. She served her time as a beat cop and now has trained for this specific unit created to find missing people. Nikki still holds out hope that her sister, Sarah, is still alive and has dedicated the last ten years of her life studying every abduction case she can get her hands on and memorizing fact after fact about them. While grieving for her sister still, she also is grieving over the death of her best friend, Katie, a year ago in a boating accident. She has become good friends with Katie’s husband, Tyler, as they both try to process their grief, survive and keep their faith in God intact.
Nikki and Tyler are out rappelling as a way to remember something they and Katie liked to do. When they reach the bottom of the cliff, Nikki receives a phone call from her boss about a potential kidnapped 16-year-old girl. Nikki and Tyler go to the scene and soon are embroiled in a case that seems to have roots in the past for Nikki. Can this case finally give her some answers about her sister’s abduction? As the tension mounts during the course of the investigation, Nikki depends more and more on Tyler. If only she could meet a man like him, she might be ready to settle down.
After the heart-pumping action in this the first story of the Nikki Boyd Files, I can’t wait for book two! However, book two is not being released until the summer of 2016, so I guess I’ll have to find some other books to read between now and then. This book has got lots of tension, suspense, action, faith struggles and more. Lisa Harris has a God-given talent for writing stories that draw readers in from page one until the last page is turned. The characters of Nikki and Tyler were very realistic in their shared grief and struggles, trying to see God’s purpose amidst their sorrow. I was engaged in the story from beginning to end and cared what happened to the people in the story. Don’t miss this one!
My rating is 5 stars.

I opened Lisa Harris’ new novel, and disappeared into world where a day of rock climbing can turn into a search for a missing teenager with just one phone call. I followed closely behind Nikki as she followed the leads into the beautiful Tennessee Smokey Mountain park, and though I have never
Show More
been there physically, emotionally and mentally I searched for clues, questioned vacationers and dealt with family. Once again Lisa takes you on a roller coaster of gigantic proportions where the curve ahead is hidden until you are thrown wildly from one side to the other. It is only after the ride is over that you realize how long you have been holding your breathe, how tense your shoulders are and how fast your heart is beating. The ironic thing is, although you have been anxious to find the girl, when the story ends you are left feeling a little bereft, and wishing you did not need to wait until the summer of 2016 to do it all over again with Nikki Boyd.

Thank you to Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group and Graf-Martin Publicity Group through their Nuts About Books program for the opportunity to read this book. I received a free book for the purpose of review. A positive critique was not required. The opinions are my own.

Missing persons investigator Nikki Boyd brings an extra empathy to her cases, since it was her own sister’s disappearance that led her to this career. Ten years after the fact, logic says her sister can’t still be alive when the other victims have been found dead, but Nikki’s heart won’t
Show More
give up hope.

When Nikki and her friend Tyler are called to investigate a missing teen girl, it doesn’t take long for similarities in the case to make Nikki wonder if her sister’s abductor is back in action after years of silence. If it’s the same man, he’s grown sloppy. Or he’s playing with them.

Vendetta is a fast-paced, well-plotted novel, as Nikki, Tyler and their team race the clock to find the missing girl. A large part of the chase is set in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

As always, author Lisa Harris gives us lifelike characters with issues of their own. Nikki can’t let her personal pain affect her investigation, no matter what mind games the abductor plays. And Tyler’s still grieving for his dead wife, who’d been Nikki’s best friend. Nikki and Tyler are both struggling to know where God is in their hurts.

Although the novel is a really good read, I didn’t feel as drawn in as I did with the author’s Southern Crimes series. There may be too many flashback scenes, snippets of Nikki’s past, or perhaps it’s the number of characters. I did have trouble keeping the search team and volunteers straight, although the narrative only focused on a few. Nonetheless, Vendetta is the start of a new series I’d definitely recommend.

Award-winning author Lisa Harris has written almost 30 books, including the Southern Crimes series (Dangerous Passage, Fatal Exchange, and Hidden Agenda.) She and her family are missionaries living in Mozambique. For more about the author and her books, visit lisaharriswrites.com.

The day Nikki Boyds' life changed forever was the day her sister Sarah turned up missing ten years ago. It is not something you forget or get over. As a special agent for the Tennessee Missing Persons a task Firce, Nikki now finds people for a living. She likes her job and along the way, she hopes

to find out what happened to her sister. The not knowing is the hardest thing to live with. You can let your imagination go crazy, but she needs to stay grounded.

One day while off work Nikki get a call that a girl is missing. With the help of her friend Tyler they start their investigation . As they dig deeper into the case, Nikki finds a link to her sister's case. The question is could this be the same person who took both her sister and the missing girl they are investigating? I loved the action and the twists and turns of the story. The character development is quite good and the intense scenes are a sure way to keep the reader intrigued . It is not a book you want to put down, until the last page is read.

The relationship between Nikki and Tyler is a definite attention grabber. As the story continues, you feel like you are in a maze trying to find your way out. Just as you think you have the mystery figured out, you hit a dead end and the the suspense builds until you find yourself on the edge of your seat . The author has done an amazing job of writing a story that grips you from the beginning and takes you on a roller coaster ride of sheer intrigue at its very best.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review.

A great start to a series that will leave you wanting more. I liked the twists in the book as Nikki takes on a case that is close to home. She finds herself having to not only concentrate on her job, but on her own safety as well. Nikki finds too many coincidences with evidence found at a new case

and her missing sister from ten years ago. As she works to solve one, she has to be careful in finding evidence of the other.
This is a great book and I look forward to more in this new series.
