This is a wonderful book full of Christian suspense and romance. There were many twists and turns. I did not want to put this book down. Tori and Cole and Max and Sally learn many things during this investigation. They must all learn to have some faith and how to tolerate what they learn about a

loved one. I hope there are many more books in the FBI Task Force series. I received a copy of this book from Tyndale blog network for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

Special Agent Tori Templeton is tied up in a case involving the murder of oil and gas magnate Nathan Moore and a bombing at one of his oil rigs. Add the fact that Nathan's widow is Tori's best friend, and that Tori is beginning to fall for her new partner on the task force, a deputy US marshal, and

the stakes of this dangerous case rise in Deep Extraction, a novel by author DiAnn Mills.

Months ago, I read this author for the first time with (what is, technically) the first book in this FBI Task Force series, Trial by Fire. I thought that novella was great and admittedly expected as much with this novel. No disappointments, here.

I sank my teeth into this romantic suspense story, a pretty dense one. The action is unpretentious in the way it breaks out, and the intricate plot held my attention throughout--no "yawn" time.

A conversion to faith felt a tad routine to me, perhaps because I knew the story would call for it but I wasn't sure if it dug deeply enough. Also, one character's choice on behalf of her family didn't seem fully justifiable to me. I'd think, if you truly feared for the very lives of yourself and your children, and you were presented with an offer of greater protection, you'd take it.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this read from cover to cover, and I've every intention of revisiting this author in the not-so-distant future.

Title: Deep Extraction (An FBI Task Force Novel #2)
Author: DiAnn Mills
Pages: 416
Year: 2017
Publisher: Tyndale
My rating 5 out of 5 stars.
How many times have you stayed up late to finish a story that just wouldn’t let up? Well, for me last night was just such an experience. When I found out another
Show More
novel was coming from the pen of DiAnn Mills, I was ecstatic! She has many published works and I have read several of them, staying up late and reading for hours while lost in the mystery with thrills!
In her newest story, we see various characters making choices which have both positive and negative effects that ripple and touch many others. Take for instance Nathan, who though extremely rich, was spiritually poor because he believed he had all he needed. However, what others didn’t know or see ended up costing him his life. Sally, Nathan’s wife, along with her two teenage sons now learn of a side of the husband/father they never knew. Will they remain bitter, hurt or work through forgiveness?
There are three people working to uncover and locate the mastermind behind many criminal activities including murder. Max, who is a seasoned FBI agent, has his personal life in shambles and wants nothing to do with spirituality. He just wants to finish up his last case before he retires. Cole is a multilayer complex U.S. Marshall with many talents. He knew Nathan and wants to help catch the person(s) responsible for his death. But what will it cost him? Finally, there is Tori. She is a hard-working FBI agent who has endured many hardships, both professionally and in her private life. Will she eventually see her need for God to walk through life?
DiAnn’s stories I find to be highly entertaining with action, adventure, mystery, and faith. There are many threads in her books that weave captivating tapestries. Her research makes her tales more lifelike and the characters face similar spiritual, emotional and life questions. Plus, the more I read of the law enforcement community, the more I respect their devotion and the cost they and their families pay to serve and protect! Well done, DiAnn. Keep the books coming!

My thoughts: I found Deep Extraction a book that captured my attention from the cracking of the spine. I know that much of our world is now controlled by computers, but truly would not have thought that a pacemaker could become an instrument for murder through
Show More
hacking. My thoughts aside, the author brought so many layers into the storyline that this reader was kept wondering just who did what and my suspense was kept on edge until the very end.

The family of Nathan Moore was a loving and pretty normal family. Of course, they were moneyed and lacked for nothing. But they loved one another, went about their daily lives of work, homemaking, and school just as most folks do. But in the depth of their lives, lies were being lived out unknown to those around.

I found the character development tops and the plot complicated yet not so convoluted that it could not be comprehended. The touch of romance was sweet and well-handled. The action scenes vigorous and intense but did not overshadow the main plot lines.

The Christian element was well presented and not overbearing. It just simply flowed as part of the lives of those who were believers.

I recommend this as a book to be read and shared.

For fast-paced romantic suspense it is hard to beat a novel by DiAnn Mills. Deep Extraction, the second installment in her FBI Task Force series, is no exception. With characters you’ll love, an action-packed plot, and a spiritual theme that touches the heart, Deep Extraction will appeal to fans
Show More
of this genre. Take this book along on your next weekend getaway.

FBI agent Tori Templeton and US Marshall Cole Jeffers are called to solve their friend Nathan Moore’s death. Not only faced with the shock of the murder of someone close to them, they also have to come to grips with the fact that they really didn’t know him. But they are determined to uncover the layers of deception to find the guilty party, no matter who that might be.

Deep Extraction is filled with tension and surprise twists and turns. The main characters are challenged with finding truth, even if it implicates those closest to them. I found Tori and Cole’s struggle with maintaining professionalism and objectivity in the face of personal feelings a great addition to the book. Can anyone ever really know someone? That’s what they battle as they investigate a case that gets more personal day by day. Readers who like plenty of action will appreciate the dangers Tori and Cole encounter — snipers, explosions, to name just a few. Along with dealing with the sense of betrayal, they must also overcome ingrained fears from past experiences. Trust in God is part of that struggle and is a theme woven naturally throughout the novel. The reader gets a glimpse into the actions of the bad guys before the main characters and I loved that, but I didn’t see the big surprise twist coming either!

Although book 2 in a series, Deep Extraction can be read as a standalone. A page-turner that I just could not put down, this one gets a recommended rating from me.

Recommended.

Audience: adults.

This was a thrilling book that kept me on my toes with all the unexpected twists.

FBI Special Agent Tori Templeton and her partner, Max, were called in to investigate the death of Nathan Moore, owner of Moore Oil & Gas. Tori was a friend to Nathan and his wife, Sally, making it sometimes hard to
Show More
stay in investigative mode. Especially when she wanted to help Sally through the loss of her husband. US Marshal Cole Jeffers was also working the case and was a friend of Nathan's. As the investigation proceeds, they learn that Nathan wasn't the person they thought he was. And that he had been murdered when someone tampered with his pacemaker.

I enjoyed this suspenseful story. With so much going on and the twists in the plot, it could have been hard to follow. But the way DiAnn Mills wrote it, I didn't have any problem keeping up. I just wanted to keep flipping the pages to find out what was going to happen next. Because the more these investigators dug, the more secrets they found.

Cole and Tori are incredible characters. Both are very strong, intelligent people who are great investigators. Their light romance nicely softens the drama. Especially, with the mystery of who is behind the bombing of the oil rig, Nathan's murder and threats to his family.

I really liked not knowing who the murderer was until the end, and was surprised to find out who it was.

I received a copy of Deep Extraction through NetGalley but I am reviewing it on my own as I do with everything I read.

This was a non-stop, thrilling book. I will admit I got confused with so many characters and trying to figure out who the “bad guy or girl” was, but it didn’t stop me from turning the page. This one will keep you guessing.

This is the second book in the series and I didn’t see any
Show More
connections between them other than the FBI. So they could be read as a stand alone or out of order.

This is Christian fiction with a faith thread woven throughout the book, but was not preachy. No bad language or sexual inappropriateness.
