Media reviews

Numerous characters are involved in this book, the third in a series. I received the book without having the opportunity to read the two previous books in the series, and found it hard to sort out all of the characters at first. Cindy Woodsmall is an artist at depicting a beautiful portrait of the
Show More
locale in this book, and I easily envisioned the beautiful countryside with the orchard developing throughout the spring and summer months as the story develops. The main characters are very well defined to the point that I was constantly frustrated with Jacob and his penchant for running off to "take care of his self-imposed issues" at Rhoda's expense. I became irritated with Rhoda for her indecisive and spineless nature in her relationship with Jacob, dropping everything at Jacob's insistence in order to please him. This book is well written, but I would not recommend it as a stand-alone novel. There is too much information based on the previous books in the series, and the story ends rather abruptly as a sequel is to follow. I would love to read the entire series of books in order to have the advantage of the long-range advancement of character development and evolving plot developments. Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own, and no monetary compensation was received for this review.

I love Amish stories and I have enjoyed several of Cindy Woodsmall's novels. This one is very good also, but I having not read the first two books in this series, I had trouble following the story. I'm looking forward to getting the first two books, then re-reading this one as book three in the
Show More
series.
Thank you!

For Every Season is book 3 of the Amish Vines and Orchards series. In this book Leah is still struggling on whether or not she wants to leave the Amish. She has a good friend in Landon and dates him some but he is not pressuring her one way or the other to leave or stay. This is a good healthy
Show More
friendship.

Two brothers, Samuel and Jacob are interested in Rhoda romantically and this causes problems. She has pledged her love from the beginning to Jacob but all along I was routing for Samuel. Which one does she choose? You will have to read to find out. Jacob has some baggage in his life that he does not fully disclose to Rhoda. He has different goals than Rhoda and is not always supportive of her desire to have a career in the orchards.

This is only the third book in the series. A new one is due out in 2014 and it's a good thing since there were a lot of things in this book that need to be explored more such as Leah's decision, a new character Iva, and the Cammile's search for a possible granddaughter. I am looking forward to the next book so these loose ends will be tied up.

My thanks to Librarything's Early Review Program and Waterbook for giving me a copy of this book to review.

Rhoda Byler is struggling to do the right thing, not only for the Amish community and orchard she and others are developing in Maine, but in her relationship with Jacob King. Their relationship has had its share of ups and downs but Jacob is about to put his past behind him and wants to marry
Show More
Rhoda. However, he is becoming increasingly worried about her growing relationship with his brother Samuel, especially since he knows Samuel has been in love with Rhoda for a very long time. Rhoda wants to do the right thing, but in doing so is she listening to what is in her heart?

“For Every Season” is the third book in Cindy Woodsmall’s Amish Vine and Orchard series – a series that grows stronger with every book. The book does start off a bit slowly but picked up halfway through and by the end I was really engaged in what happened to the characters. In this book Woodsmall does tie up some storylines (I was happy with what she did, some readers might not be) while nicely moving along some other plotlines. She has created some nicely developed characters – Rhoda is a strong, stubborn, tormented character – there were times when I wanted to hug her while reading the book; other times I wanted to shake her. I’ve had mixed feelings about Jacob while reading this series – he did grow on me a bit by the end of this book. Samuel is my favorite of the three characters – pulled by his love for Rhoda but wanting to do what is best for his family, Rhoda, and the orchards. The Jacob/Samuel/Rhoda triangle is well written – you can feel their anguish while reading the book. Other characters are equally well done – I especially like Leah’s continuing struggle in deciding whether or not to be baptized Amish or become English. There is a new character in this book, Iva, who adds some intriguing possibilities for future storylines. The Amish aspects are well done as are the struggles to run the Orchard.

“For Every Season” is another good book by Cindy Woodsmall.

For Every Season: Book Three in the Amish Vines and Orchards Series
Cindy Woodsmall

Book Summary: Working hard to develop a new Amish community outside of Unity, Maine, Rhoda Byler is fully committed to rehabilitating an orchard with business partner Samuel King. But an impulsive decision has created
Show More
an unexpected strain in her relationship with her beau, Samuel’s brother, Jacob, threatening plans for the orchard. Amidst mounting tension in matters of the heart and business, Rhoda finds that this fledging settlement feels like the home she has always longed for, and she begins to embrace the God-given, heightened intuition that has always felt like a burden to her. She longs for Jacob to fully be free of his past, so they can work towards the future together.

But as Rhoda uses her gift to unpack an old secret with her Englisch neighbors, it is not her beau but an unlikely ally that cheers her on. With the orchard on shaky ground and Jacob’s plans in question, Rhoda is determined to see things through to harvest. But can she trust her insight to direct her path in matters of the heart?

Review: I have grown to love this series more and more! There were so many great things about this particular book in the series. 1st More of the main characters Rhoda, Samuel and Jacob. 2nd Interesting twists with the characters and the story line. 3rd The secondary characters are a huge bonus to the books. I was so looking forward to the conclusion (even though I know there is another book coming). The reigning question who does Rhoda choose?! I just had to know. I know who I wanted but how would it look and how would it come about. It was all worth reading and waiting for! But the end seemed abrupt and disjointed. Like someone took the last 10-20 pages off and I would be left with hundreds of questions. I guess that is why there is now a 4th book…… I am glad with the results I just would like it to be happy. I felt deflated and out of sorts when the end came.

I would like to thank Library Thing and Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.

My book club has been anxiously waiting for this book. We just had to know who Rhoda would pick! Well we got the answer and more in book 3 of Cindy Woodsmall’s Amish Vines and Orchards series. For Every Season finds the new Amish community in Maine still struggling to get the business
Show More
established. Strife between Rhoda and the King brothers has put a strain on other relationships and on the fledgling orchard. Feelings must be sorted out and decisions made for the future of the community.

I really like the characters in this series. The struggle of finding their place within their community and in God’s plan is realistically portrayed. In For Every Season, a new character is introduced who adds spice to the mix. Some conflicts are resolved, but new story threads are introduced that will lead to book 4! I look forward to finding out just where Leah and Landon’s relationship will take them.

Recommended.

This is book 3 in Woodsmall's Amish Vines and Orchard Series. I appreciated immensely the summaries of the previous two books that the author included at the beginning of this volume. It is so hard to remember what happened in previous books for anyone who reads a lot of series. I only wish that
Show More
more authors would be so accommodating to their readers. At the back of the book is a list of characters and a brief biography as well as a glossary of the few Pennsylvania Dutch terms that are included in the book. The activities of the King and Byler families as they try to revive the apple orchard in Maine are the focus of this book. Also central is Jacob King's attempt to extricate himself from his legal woes that resulted from the collapse of a faultily constructed deck that killed two people when it collapsed. Main character Rhoda Byler will resolve her feelings for the two King brothers, Jacob and Samuel, by the end of the book. The book can be read either as a stand-alone or as part of the series, but I suspect it will provide a more satisfying read if read in the series. I look forward to volume four.

This was Book 3 of Amish Vines and Orchards. Maybe if I had read the first two I would have enjoyed it more. I found it rather depressing and different from other Amish books I have read. There were two brothers in love with the same girl; Amish and English friendships; and past relationships. It
Show More
was a little too much.

This is book three in the series Amish Vines & Orchards. Rhoda Byler is working with Samuel & Jacob King on an old apple orchard that they are bringing back to life and developing a new Amish community in Maine. Rhoda is dating Jacob but he has been away from the orchard and dealing with issues
Show More
form his past. When he returns he notices the relationship has changed between him and Rhoda. Samuel is more committed to the orchard and seeing that it is successful and Jacob is more into putting his past right. Rhoda is torn between the two and both brothers are in love with her.
I enjoyed the new character, Iva Lambright, that she added to the book. She added a lot to the story with her spunky personality.
I did have a hard time understanding Rhoda's gift - not really sure if it's a psychic gift or a gift from God. It seems a little confusing. All in all it was an enjoyable read.

Author Cindy Woodsmall continues the emotional journey of her unusual Amish heroine, Rhoda Byler, in "For Every Season", Book Three in her "Amish Vines and Orchards" series. Rhoda Byler is a young Amish woman of special gifts and insights. A uniquely talented horticulturist, she is also highly
Show More
attuned to spiritual matters and has a heightened sense of both past and future events. Feeling isolated from her community by their superstitions and fears, Rhoda enjoys the solitude and peace she finds tending her garden and canning produce for sale. When someone destroys her garden and her source of income, she accepts an offer to work for the King brothers in their apple orchard business. Samuel King and Rhoda often clash, but his brother Jacob, with his sweeter, sunnier nature, wins Rhoda's affection, and they begin to court. When a tornado destroys the orchard, Rhoda and the King brothers, along with others in the community, move north to Maine to take over an abandoned apple orchard. Jacob continues to struggle to resolve issues from his past, and his long absences cause unexpected changes in the relationship between Rhoda and Samuel, who has come to care deeply for Rhoda. When Jacob realizes that there is a bond between Rhoda and Samuel, along with one kiss, his hurt and anger, and their sense of guilt, have the three of them at odds with one another. The variables of nature, and the weaknesses of human nature, are always present along with endless hard work and worries about the future. Uncertainty is countered with abiding faith, but a fateful decision of the heart must be made. Which brother will share his heart and his life with Rhoda, and which one must seek a different emotional path? Excellent, in-depth characterizations and complex, intriguing story lines are hallmarks of the writing of author Cindy Woodsmall. Extra treats for readers include an introductory story line synopsis of previous books in the series, recipes, a list of characters, and a glossary of Pennsylvania Dutch terms and phrases. I recommend reading this series in order. Book four is expected in 2014.

It took a while for me to get through this one, I realized it was because the depth of the characters had been set in the previous books in the series. This is book three. I enjoyed the book but really need to go back and read the first ones to really grasp why the characters behaved the way they
Show More
did in this book. This was a very good story about modern day Amish and the realities they face in the world today.

This the best series I have read. Though I have read other series. I love this book because it is just different and I love that it is catching and keeps me to be surprised. I like getting to know each person in the book and in detail. It also keeps me wanting more and making me wait for the next
Show More
book for more.

The author is great in this. You learn new secret and new storylines that are dealt with. We find out if Jacob can free himself of his past along with Ronda. Ronda learn that her gift from god and what do with it or at least some of it. Will Ronda and Jacob be together in future. You will need to read it to find out for yourselves.

Do they learn what kind of relationships they each want. Samuel, Jacob and Ronda all need to figure it all out. I wonder where each one will go and who will choose who or what path they decide to take. If you have not read this series. I would recommend it that you do. The series starts with the book "A Season for Tending".

This is the third book in Cindy Woodsmall's Amish Vines and Orchards series. A small group of Amish move to Maine to establish a new settlement on a foreclosed apple orchard including Rhoda Byler--who is very good with organic composting and apple products, and brothers Jacob and Samuel King. Rhoda
Show More
is engaged to Jacob, but Jacob has some unresolved issues he has to deal with during the course of the book. While Rhoda, Samuel and several other members of the group work to re-establish the orchard. Cindy Woodsmall continues to weave a tale with characters that are multi dimensional and very human. You hurt with them and enjoy the victories when they overcome. I enjoyed reading this book and recommend the book to others.

I received this book from the publisher through Library Thing's Early Reviewers Program. Thinking it would be a good read, and because I always enjoy Amish fiction, I was anxious to start this novel.

The story is unlike other Amish fiction I've read. It's well written and very unique. However, I
Show More
discovered that this is the third book in a series of four by this author. I did not read the first two books and was rather lost and confused while reading this one. There is a preface which briefly describes the plot and character through books one and two, but it is too brief. There are many characters in the novel who seemed to suddenly pop up without explanation.

The main characters are involved in a "love triangle" from the start of the story. I could not really connect with any of them, so I can't say that I really enjoyed this book. Perhaps, if I had read the first two books, I might have enjoyed book three.

That being said, based on this book alone, I do not have any interest in reading the rest of the series. The entire story seems to build to a very sudden and disconnected ending. It just never came together for me and I was disappointed.

I do appreciate having the opportunity to read and review this book, but it simply did not hold my interest. If you read this series, I highly recommend that you read all of the books in order to understand what's going on.

Another good story in this series by an author who has combined a good story-line with very believable and likable characters, and who captures a romantic tale that leaves you wondering how this book will end.

Rhoda Byler and brothers Samuel and Jacob King (and a few others) are trying to make their
Show More
recently bought apple orchard in Maine work. This small group of Amish folks are hard working and caring people. But Jacob's previous years in the Engllsh world has caused him to have secrets and trouble has followed him wherever he goes. His love for Rhoda and her love for him has helped him settle once and for all the trouble he has been running from. But his being away from the farm has also brought Samuel and Rhoda closer together and Samuel is not able to hide his feelings for Rhoda any longer. Now the brothers are divided and Rhoda is left not knowing what to do. And that is just one of the stories taking place inside this book and this series.

Once again I found myself reading and having a hard time putting this book down as I neared the end. I truly wasn't sure how the author would end this story, knowing there was still one more book in this series. I say good job, well done Cindy Woodsmall; I appreciated this ending and look forward to how this series will close with book 4, "Seasons of Tomorrow".
