Ellie is a house flipper and her business partner happens to be her sister's ex-husband. Ellie's sister, Mackenzie, is a professor at the local college and teaches Asian languages. Mac disappears and is presumed dead due to all the blood found on the deck of her tall ship. Grayson Bradshaw with the Coast Guard Investigative Services ends up on assignment in Lavender Tides to find out what happened to a missing shipment of cocaine. His appearance occurs at the same time Mac went missing and Grayson knows she is behind the stolen cocaine. Ellie and Grayson start working together to find out what really happened to Mac.
There are so many twists and turns. I enjoyed the story and characters (there's a lot of them). There's long lost brothers being found and possibly a sister. My least favorite person was Mackenzie. She is the reason people were put in so much danger, especially her sister. She was jealous of her sister and wanted the attention. Ellie and Grayson were quite harsh to Jason while he was in the hospital. He risked his life for Ellie, Grayson and Mac. He justified to feel angry with his situation and he found out that his wife didn't even love him while they were married. He tried to tell Ellie about the real Mac, but she never listened and always defended her.
Overall, a good book with storyline I didn't see coming. I definitely recommend the book and I need to read the first one.
Thanks to NetGalley, Thomas Nelson and the author, Colleen Coble, for a free electronic ARC of this novel.
I appreciate Ms. Coble’s writing style, infusing her stories with suspense, mystery, romance, and spirituality. Her characters are well crafted and her scenes are vivid. I do have to mention that it took me a little while to fully connect with Ellie, even though I immediately sympathized with her search for her sister.
Great pacing and themes. I look forward to more in this series.
I received a complimentary copy from BookLook and NetGalley.
Grayson was better. I did warm up to him quicker. He was kind. Grayson and Ellie did share some sparks but they were more sparklers than big fireworks. This story had some flaws to it but it would have been improved better with more enjoyable characters. Yet, this is just my opinion. Try this book for yourself.
I received a complementary copy from Thomas Nelson Publishers through NetGalleys. The opinions expressed in this book are my own.
Set in a picturesque town on the Washington coast, The House at Saltwater Point focuses on two main characters: Ellie Blackmore, house renovator/flipper and Grayson Bradshaw, Coast Guard investigator. They are brought together because both a big seizure of cocaine and Ellie’s sister Mackenzie are missing. All evidence points to Mac’s involvement. But there is much more to the case, namely a sinister terror plot. I loved these two characters. Both are thrown for a loop in the opening chapters of the book, but they never lose their focus on what is important, even as their worlds come apart. Family dynamics add depth to this fast-paced novel. The characters’ faith is also an important part in their lives, and though their worlds are rocked causing them to question what they have always known, God is still the One they trust. This book has lots of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages faster and faster. The bad guys are seriously nasty, and I was cheering along as Ellie and Grayson faced the menace.
The House at Saltwater Point can be read as a standalone, even as characters from book 1 make an appearance. However, there is a mystery introduced in the first novel that continues in this book and will play an important role in Secrets at Cedar Cabin which releases in January. So if you haven’t already begun this excellent series, now is your chance to get in on all the adventure and suspense. There is also a tie-in novella, Leaving Lavender Tides, due out at Christmas. I’m thinking you could be well on your way to a great wishlist!
Recommended.
Audience: adults.

The story takes place along the coast at Lavender Tides where Ellie
Mackenzie has a love of sailing and bought a tall-ship, in turn encouraging the town to engage in a tall-ship extravaganza. Excited to show Ellie the improvements made to the boat, she invites her sister out. Not able to make it out until later, Ellie appears at the boat to find blood covering the deck. From here the mystery starts as all evidence points to Mackenzie and her nefarious ways. But that said, did her ex-husband kill her or someone else?
The story was very action packed and kept me interested. I was curious as to how the story was going to end which is why I kept reading into the night, long after the lights in the house were out. Benefits of the kindle!
While I enjoyed the book I just felt like at times that all the pieces weren’t put into place. I’ve read alot of suspenseful books and while this one seemed on the quest into that same genre, it fell flat.
Despite that, I still enjoyed the book and will likely read another book by Colleen Coble in the future.
I have to say, sometimes the synopsis of the book doesn’t really jive well with the true contents of the book. With this book, I believe that is the case. While you are wanting to get me, the reader, to select the book how do you write it to give as much (or little) of the plot possible. In this case, it feels like there was a bit of case of misdirect.
I did get this book as a blogger from BookLook Bloggers. I was not required to leave a review and did so upon my own recognizance.
Ellie doesn't believe the rumors about her sister stealing cocaine. When Mackenzie turns up missing the hunt is on for the truth. I liked how the author gave us a bit of background on Ellie and why she has a hard time believing in herself. Grayson is a bigger than life person with his size and fierce protectiveness. He wants to help Ellie but he also has a job to do. Will he help find Mackenzie and prove her innocence?
The story is unpredictable and really kept me on my toes. I wasn't sure who to believe at times which made the story so good. The author has an ability to take a plot and expand it with explosive details that keep you guessing. There is danger all around Ellie and Grayson. The terrorist part in the story was unexpected and made the book even harder to put down. It's funny what some people will do for power and money. Don't miss this intense action packed story that will have you on the edge of your seat.
I received a copy of this book from The Fiction Guild. The review is my own opinion.
