I found this book bland and pointless. I thought the story line didnt really have a purpose and i didn't find it that fun to read. Because of this it doesn't meet my rules for a good childrens book.

This is a fun and original picture book. It is about a moose who is being filmed by a movie director. The moose and all of his animal friends and family don't act like regular animals and they will do no such thing. The Moose wants to be an astronaut and go to the moon. He doesn't give up and with

his friends he accomplishes more than anyone thought he could.

I really enjoyed this book for many reasons. The main idea of this book is to never give up on your dreams and be who you want to be. This is represented throughout the book in many different ways. The moose in the story demonstrated this. For example, when the director tells him he can’t be an

astronaut the moose continually puts his helmet back on, and eventually takes a slingshot into space. The giraffe showed another example of being who you want to be. Even though he was a giraffe, he wanted to be a doctor. Yet again the director tells him he can’t be a doctor, but the giraffe continues to wear his stethoscope. The color and the font of the text were really important to the story. Whenever the director spoke, his words were les uniform and very colorful. While when anybody with a dream spoke, they had bold well defined words.

Moose is the subject of a new film, but the making of the film repeatedly gets derailed. Moose wants to be an astronaut, but the film maker tells him that moose cannot be astronauts. Moose and his animal friends believe differently.

Moose just wants to be an astronaut in this hilarious picture-book adventure from author Richard T. Morris and illustrator Tom Lichtenheld, but the filmmaker who has come to create a documentary about him is having none of it. Moose are not meant to be astronauts! Or lacrosse goalies, in the case

of Grandma Moose. Nor are giraffe supposed to be anywhere in the woods. Despite the director's many arguments, Moose proceeds with his plan to reach outer space, aided by his friends and family. Eventually the director himself, revealed as a duck, also gets on board...

An amusing tale of following your dreams, and defying expectations regarding the supposedly proper course of action for people (or moose) of one's sort, This Is a Moose is a book that, with its frequent outraged interruptions by the director, makes for an excellent read-aloud. I have seen it performed at story-time, and it is inevitably a hit with its young audience. I enjoyed both story and artwork here, and think that Lichtenheld's ink, pencil and gouache illustrations perfectly capture the humorous hi-jinks to be found in the text. Recommended to anyone looking for humorous, entertaining picture-books.

I'm kind of a sucker for characters that don't play by the narrator's rules.
