Meh, I think I'm done with this series. I fully expect a Feehan novel to be overwrought and overwritten and, while I usually find them entertaining, you could easily edit out 10-20% of this one without noticing. Also, the subtitle of this particular book could be "when inconsistencies become plot

holes".

Plot: While I appreciate the Feehan spends a lot of effort on getting the fight scenes right, I wish she's spend some of that energy on the actual romance. The genetic engineering + pregnancy/baby = insta-love really bugged me. Also, the political and cultural analysis of what is probably Mexico was over-simplified to the point where I really wanted to yell at the author to shut off the cable news and do some actual research. That's probably just a personal annoyance though. I think the biggest problem with the plotting is that the main storyline has changed so hugely since the beginning of the series that I don't think Feehan really knows where she wants to take it; it's all over the place.

Characters: Rose, the heroine of Chinese ancestry, is described as a "porcelain doll" and "little ballerina" to such an extent that it was kind of fetishy-creepy, especially when she was being contrasted with the really huge Kane. While they both made the occasional questionable decision, Kane's were so consistently moronic as to fall into TSTL territory.

Pacing: I don't know. After the first 50-100 pages, I was mostly skimming.

Oh, and a lesson to me to read the back of a book before buying it--this is apparently a not-so-secret pregnancy story, complete with graphic childbirth scene, repeated descriptions of breast-feeding and a super-baby. Really not my thing, but if you like your romances based around pregnancy and babies, you might be more inclined to like this whole story than I did.

Forced into fatherhood by the insane Dr. Whitney's build-a-baby plan, Kane Cannon didn't even know what happened to the possible mother of his child. Not, that is, until he encounters her smack in the middle of a hostage rescue mission south of the border. Now he's on the run with an extremely

deadly, extremely pregnant fellow GhostWalker, one he'd give his life for in a heartbeat, if she doesn't kill him.

Fleeing for her life and that of her unborn baby, Rose Patterson isn't sure who she can trust, but Kane might just make the cut. If they can survive drug dealers and psychotic killers, she's willing to give him a chance - but first she'll have to tell him her own secret and take a chance on him leaving forever.

A bit too predictable, but not as bad as a couple of the previous installments.

I was hoping for something interesting when I picked this book up for some rainy day reading, but I was pretty disappointed. It was a rehash of all the other ghostwalker books with nothing new or interesting to add. I put it down about half way through because it was so predictable I didn't need to

I get the sense that the author is almost bored with this series or maybe I am just projecting my own feelings about it.

I wasn't sure how she could pull off the baby being born in the middle of the book. But she did it wonderfully.I really, really, really liked Ruthless Game. Kane is Alpha with such a soft side and I love the way Rose is written. Do NOT pass up reading this book if Street Game didn't grab you, this

book will excite you =)

From the LT reviews apparently I'm not the only one who found the early books in the series better than the more recent ones. Ruthless Game was far from a favorite read and I could have done without the frequent and overly long 'bedroom' scenes. In fact, after the first couple I pretty much skipped

those in order to get on with the story. Only recommended for completest readers of the GhostWalkers series.

This was a different book for this series. Rose and Kane were mentioned in Deadly Game. It was nice to see both of them again. It was also nice to have a glimpse of the characters from past books mentioned in this one even if it was only in the last chapter. There is a lot of action in this book as

well as the budding romance between Rose and Kane. I love seeing the team work together as well as coming to accept Rose and her baby. It will be interesting to see how the children grow up. We don't seem to find out a lot about Rose's abilities. We have a few peeks but no details. It was kind of sad to see a trusted character turn on the GhostWalkers. It would have been nice to find out more about the traitor and what impact he may have had with the other GhostWalkers and their families. I am interested to find out who the next book is about. I have my ideas after reading this book.

Ruthless Game is book 9 in Christine Feehan’s Ghost Walkers series. Although this is my least favorite of her series’, Ruthless Game is probably my favorite of the nine books so far.

The Ghost Walker series is sort of a techno-thriller/romance series – concerning a group of genetically

enhanced “super soldiers,” with a wide range of special psychic and physical abilities. In most of the past eight books I’ve found myself skipping through the military missions and focusing in on the romance aspects, because that’s what Christine Feehan does so well: romance. Ruthless Game was a bit different for me though, and I read it cover to cover without skipping so much as a word.

The key in Ruthless Game was the heroine Rose: I loved her from the moment I “met” her and couldn’t wait to see what happened when she was reunited with Kane, the Ghost Walker she had been paired with. Maybe it was the added fact that she was pregnant, and then had a newborn to contend with (along with constant threats on her life and the lives of her loved ones,) but for whatever reason, Rose and Kane along with baby Sebastian, quickly became my favorite Ghost Walkers.

The Ghost Walker series, like all Feehan’s series’, only get better with time. She’s one of the best romance series authors out there and I have become a huge fan over the last few years. She continues to introduce new characters in each book and those characters will show up in their own books later on in the series. My favorite books are the ones like Ruthless Game, which bring old and new characters together like a fantastic family reunion. I am excited to see where Christine Feehan will take her series next.
