Description
From the moment that beautiful eighteen-year-old Minella Maddox saw Charles-Augueste, the haughty, arrogant Comte Fontaine Delibes, his satanic looks thrilled her with a sense of danger and excitement. The Comte, too, liked what he saw. He decided that he would marry Minella, and nothing would be allowed to stand in his way ... not even his wife.

I have always loved Victoria Holt gothics, and I am slowly accumulating my own copies of my favorites. This one involves not only the sweet innocent English miss in straitened circumstances, but also the French Revolution and a completely desolute French Comte.

I'd greater hopes for this one. It was good in parts but I found it lacking on the whole.
With scenes set in revolutionary France I can't help feeling that this should've been more exciting and shocking.
Worth reading but only once.
