Description

Fiction. Mystery. Romance. Humor (Fiction.) HTML: The smash-hit #1 bestselling author Janet Evanovich takes you on the ride of your life in the next Stephanie Plum adventure, Seven Up! Semiretired mob guy Eddie DeCooch is caught trafficking contraband cigarettes through Trenton, New Jersey. When DeCooch fails to show for a court appearance, bond enforcement agent Stephanie Plum is assigned the task of finding him and dragging his decrepit ass back to jail. Not such an easy job, it turns out, since DeCooch has learned a lot of tricks over the years and isn't afraid to use his gun. He's already shot Loretta Ricci, an innocent old lady, and left her for worm food in his shed. He wouldn't mind shooting Stephanie next. Likeable losers (and Steph's former high school classmates) Walter "MoonMan" Dunphy and Dougie "The Dealer" Kruper have inadvertently become involved with DeCooch. They've gotten sucked into an operation that is much more than simple cigarette smuggling and holds risks far greater than anyone could have imagined. When Dougie disappears, Steph goes into search mode. When Mooner disappears, she calls in the heavy artillery and asks master bounty hunter Ranger for help. Ranger's price for the job? One night with Stephanie, dusk to dawn. Not information she wants to share with her sometime live-in roommate, vice cop Joe Morelli, A typical dilemma in the world of Plum. And on the homefront, Stephanie's "perfect" sister, Valerie, has decided to move back to Trenton, bringing her two kids from hell with her. Grandma Mazur is asking questions about being a lesbian, and Bob, the bulimic dog, is eating everything in sightâ??including the furniture. Mud wrestling, motorcycles, fast cars, fast food, and fast men. It's Janet Evanovich's Seven Up.… (more)

Boy, I have to say that the longer Stephanie exists, the dumber she gets. I don’t know why I keep reading these things. This one wasn’t very good. You’d think by now that Steph would have learned a thing or two about apprehending FTAs. Nope. She’s still as dopey as ever. Bumbling in and
Show More
being surprised when people lie, cheat and beat their way out of her grasp. Honestly, dying her hair blonde was the smartest thing she did during the whole book – at least it would serve as a warning to others that they’re dealing with an idiot.

And why does Evanovich insist on bringing back the least interesting character??? Dougie and Mooner for heaven’s sake? What happened to Sally Sweet and the little midget guy? At least they had a few brain cells left, unlike the two in this novel.

And Ranger is no longer scary, so of course we need Stephanie there to remind us that he still is. No evidence of it however, just her long past memories. Of course they are closer than ever to a tryst of their own. Ranger is making it the payback for helping her on one of her captures, the only way she can make them these days. Really, we haven’t seen Stephanie bring one in on her own in about 3 books now. How the hell does she make it??

And the thing with men breaking into her apartment and making themselves at home is getting a little old now. Same with the destroyed cars. Enough already. Give us some new gags. The bit about the dog Bob taking huge, ghastly, unspeakable dumps on Joyce’s lawn is funny though.

This is my second Stephanie Plum book and I can now definitely understand the appeal of these books. They are reliably funny (in a slapstick kind of way) and they are action packed. I think I would have liked this one more if I had spaced my reading of it out further from #6 than I did. It was good
Show More
but a little too familiar on the heels of the last one. I am curious about how the relationships in the book will evolve. I will definitely read on but I will probably wait at least 6 months before reading the next one.

Completely over the top, Evanovich does it again. In another crazy adventure, Stephanie Plum is after Eddie Dechooch while dealing with her new lovable pot-head friends who think they're super heroes who are kidnapped along with crazy Grandma Mazur. Not to mention having her recently divorced
Show More
sister and two girls move back into her parent's small row house and there's a wedding dress waiting for her to decide whether she wants to marry hot cop, on-again off-again boyfriend Joe Morelli or be with the sexy Latino bounty hunter Ranger who she calls in to help with her case.

I really love the Stephanie Plum series. The only problem is that I don't remember the plot line from one book to the next. It's just not that memorable.

In Seven Up, I like the fact that Mooner and Dougie are still around from Hot Six. Usually, secondary characters do not come back from one book to
Show More
the next.

Easy and enjoyable read overall!

The audio is just not the same without CJ Critt narrating.

I enjoyed the relationship focus of this one. The love triangle is so well drawn, and fun to foillow along. Oh yeah, there's a mystery somewhere. With an old man who's annoying.

I have been reading like a maniac. In the last week I've read all the way to Seven Up in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. I am enjoying these books for the romance contained within. Right now I'm seriously rooting for Ranger, but three books ago it was Morelli. I guess you could say, I'm as
Show More
confused as Stephanie Plum over which of the heroes I like best. I tend to read more books in the romance genre because of that tendency to root for the guy to get the girl, and it is a huge part of why I'm enjoying this series.

Seven Up has been one of my favorites as far as the mystery plot. This story was chock full of interesting characters in hilarious situations.

What will Janet Evanovich come up with next? I'm finding out. I'm already one hundred pages into Hard Eight.

Stephanie's at it again. She's out looking for Eddie DeCooch (an old man in his seventies). She makes friends with Dougie & MoonMan. Her sister Valerie moves back home with her two daughters from California-husband runs of with the babysitter.

Stephanie Plum tries to bring in an aging mobster and makes a deal with Ranger that will leave her in his debt.

Although there is a standard formula for the Plum series, I've enjoyed some more than others so far but I guess I'd still recommend reading them in order.

HOT SIX ended with undercover vice cop Joe Morelli proposing marriage, well sort of :) Seven Up ends with another will she / won't she... but I'm
Show More
not saying what.

I still love Grandma Mazur, Lula and Mooner was great too. Incompetent Stephanie hasn't annoyed me so much in the last couple of books... maybe I'm warming to her at last, we'll see.

By now we all know Janet Evanovich for her highly entertaining series about Steph anie Plum bond enforcement agent and this happens to be number seven in this mighty series of thirteen (and counting). I started reading this series at the prompting of one of my close friends and now i'm addicted and
Show More
i can't wait for each new installment. They are all very similar but not in a boring way, it's more along the lines of wearing a comfy jumper but it's a book instead!
This particular book opens when Steph anie has been given the case of capturing Eddie DeChooch (i also love all the names in these books) who is an aging (disgracefully) mobster who has recently been dating Steph anie's also aging (disgracefully) grandmother. It follows the usual formular whereby Steph anie, often accompanied by either Bob the dog or Lula the ex 'ho tries to track down the felon while trying not to get herself killed. The usual cast of charaters turn up, including Steph anie's Grandmother, her long suffering mother & father (some of whose lines had me laughing out loud), and many of the other locals who live in The Burg. There are lots more scenes involving Morelli in this book after the proposal in Hot Six which will be a blessing to some readers following the Morelli/Ranger storyline in previous books, we even get a wedding date (or do we).
The action as usual is very fast paced, you find yourself reading large chunks of this book because you're unable to put it down, even to make a cup of tea! It's also highly surreal with many hilarious scenes occurring in the local funeral parlour.
I'm happy to say this is another great novel by Janet Evanovich, and i highly recommend you read the entire series, although be warned, we're up to number thirteen and Evanovich doesn't look like stopping any time soon!

Stephanie goes after an old man who is wanted for questioning in a murder case - he's trying to recover a heart he cut out.

I thought the story line wandered around aimlessly in this one. There didn't seem to be much focus in the plot.

By this time Evanovich has really fallen into a formula and after reading seven of these books they all start to mesh after awhile. I keep reading them because generally they are funny and light. A great distraction and quick read. However, although this one had its moments I didn’t find this one
Show More
as funny as the others. I don’t know if the formula is getting stale for me or I was just hoping for something a little different, like possibly some progress in Stephanie’s relationship with Morelli. Either way this one didn’t really do it for me.

I really enjoyed this book. It was probably my favorite of the series so far. I liked finally getting to meet Stephanie's sister, Valerie, and hope that she continues to be included in the rest of the series. I don't know if it is just me but it felt like Stephanie grew up a little towards the end.
I am not a fan of Stephanie having a relationship with Ranger but am still interested in seeing how things work out between her and Ranger and her and Morelli.

It made me giggle, but Seven Up is probably my least favorite Stephanie Plum book so far. I'm over the whole Morelli/Ranger rivalry; she should just pick Morelli or dump them both. The book has its moments - like Mooner's unveiling of the Super Suit - but overall it just isn't up to the standards
Show More
of the previous books. Nevertheless, it's still fun and entertaining and I'll definitely keep reading this series.

This was not a favorite in the series. I will continue to read the series as I truly enjoy Janet Evanovich. This book seemed to drag and wander in spots.
LibraryThing member clif_hiker
Not the strongest plot-wise (lots of repetition) or the funniest book in the series. Still, Stephanie gets her man (or men) in the end. New characters show up with the 'perfect' sister and kids coming home. Still pretty funny and still going strong.

Seven Up by Janet Evanovich is the seventh book in the Stephanie Plum series. I do enjoy coming back to this series and hanging out with the characters for a few days. In Seven Up, Stephanie is on the hunt for old Eddie DeChooch. He's a slippery old guy who likes to shoot at Stephanie. While
Show More
looking for him, she has to locate her missing friends Dougie and Mooner.

It's a fun book, with a ton of humor and ridiculous situations. It's exactly the kind of book to read when you just need to be entertained. Plus there is the whole triangle between Stephanie, Morelli, and Ranger. It just gets more intriguing.

Seven Up keeps up Stephanie Plum's track record of the worst and luckiest bounty hunter in the USA. Her FTA this time - an old man in his 80's who got busted bootlegging a truckload of cigarettes from Virginia to Jersey. Why did he jump and run? becuase someone got ticked off at him due to a
Show More
misunderstanding. Which lead to the removal of a heart of a dead guy in Virginia. where does this lead? The kidnapping of 2 od Stephanies friends, plus her Grandma. Her sister is back from LA - and claiming since her husband left her and the kids for the babysitter that she's now a lesbian. And of course this is all wrapped up in a good mystery with as many twists and turns as there is humor in it, and I laughed most of the way thru the book, much to my wife's annoyance.

Another great addition to the series. Well, Morelli and Stephanie are getting married or aren't getting married.. Not so sure, with this on again off again relationship. I love the way Stephanie gets even with Joyce by allowing Bob the dog to do his business on her lawn. Boy did she ever have a
Show More
hard time catching her Older FTA Eddie DeChooch in this one. And the heart incident.. What a hoot.. I don't know where she comes up with these stories but they sure do have a lot of twists and turns and funny too.

More of the same. I don't know how she affords car insurance. Now it's Ranger. These goofy novels suit my night shift brain. The mysteries are not too complicated, but not bad, either.
LibraryThing member TerriBooks
These just keep being laugh-out-loud funny. Nothing really new, but good for a few hours when you just need something light and unfailingly entertaining. I didn't think this was the strongest of the books so far, but worth it for what it is. Where do you suppose she gets her auto insurance?

This was the first Stephanie Plum book I ever read, and it instantly hooked me on the series. Hilarious and sexy at the same time, I had a grand ole time reading this.
