Whacking good bodice ripper!

She writes risque gothic novels while supporting a mother she's afraid is gone mad. She's also afraid she's being stalked. He came home to England from military service in the Punjab wounded at heart. He's instantly attracted when they meet, and the more he learns of

her, the more he knows she's the one for him. So he sets out on campaign to claim her heart while trying to quell her unspoken fears.

Lots of passion and lots of love.

Fionna is a gothic novelist who is smart and independent, relying only on herself. Aidan has a tortured past and is hoping to forget it in London. Aidan meets Fionna during one of her midnight walks and sparks fly. Their interaction is wonderfully written and the characters have real life. Their

romance is hindered by Fionna's secrets and a dark presence following her.

I liked this book. I find that Samantha James, always manages to make me empathetic about her heroes' feelings. The pros: three-dimensional personalities, a little bit of mystery and a slightly gothic atmosphere. The cons: this was not an historical; it was a contemporary romance where the hero

happened to wear breeches and a hat and the heroine petticoats. Both hero and heroine were completely out of their place and time. I cared enough for the hero and heroine to not overly mind the historical innaccuracies, but I think this one is the definition of wallpaper historical. However, I enjoyed it a lot and had a good time reading it.

This wasn't a horrible book, but in many ways most of the plot was rushed except for the extensive dithering by the main character over whether or not to trust the hero. There were a lot of elements in place that would have made this a spectacular, sensational read, if they had only been used

appropriately. As it is, the stalker seemed like an afterthought that was put in place in order to spur the relationship between the two main characters. I had a hard time even believing that Fiona was even that aware or that afraid of her stalker.
