Fantasy. Fiction. Science Fiction. Thriller. HTML:NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Since the death of the Druid Allanon, the Four Lands have changed profoundly, with magic strictly forbidden in the Southland, now under totalitarian rule. Yet Par still has some power of the Wishsong. When he accidently brings a mythic horror to life, a man calling himself Cogline drives it away. Cogline brings a message from Allanon: venture to the dread Hadeshorn, along with the other Scions of Shannara. For in the future, all life in the Four Lands will be destroyed. To prevent this terrible fate, Allanon commands Par to recover the long-lost Sword of Shannara, a task that is next to impossible. The story of the Ohmsford family and their relationship to the Four Lands and the Druids continues. This is book one of a series of four that really must be read as a complete set.

This book seemed to jump around from one band of people to the next alot, although it's understandable; the whole series is like one giant book divided into four parts, which all add up to a great read. Recommended!

A change of technique - while all the previous books were set in different times with different characters and quests, these are a continuing story. Second girl who sacrifices all to bring life. Interesting twist on the savior theme. Ultimately fitting, as females are "mothers" to life.

I liked Terry Brooks mainly because of the mystical and magical feeling of his world. I probably would not like him if I stumbled upon his books today.

Another part of the Shannara series, which is (as per usual with Terry Brooks) very slow to take off, as he seeks to introduce everything in the first 100 pages.

Terry Brooks creates a really cool, new world in his books. It may be a bit ard to follow if you haven't read any other Shannara books, but you'll cathc on pretty quickly. This book is about threee people, all related to this hero who lived three hundred years ago, and they get sent on this quest

to find the Sword of Shannara. It's like a Lord of the Rings sort of thing, but with a different plot. I reccomend to people who like that kind of Eragon, Lord of the Rings stuff.

Found this book hard to put down after I got into it. Lots of action, lots of characters, lots of travelling. I will miss several of the characters that were thrown away but I thought it was well explained and great leads for the next few books in this series.

Great addition to a great series.

This was good, standard fantasy. Nothing too crazy or innovative, but still fun. The characters were not that memorable, but not completely flat, they had some "meat on their bones". I've got the other 2 books, but they're kind of long, so not sure if we'll end up getting to them or not. Just seems

like since I'm over 50 now I need to make sure I'm spending my time reading "great" books instead of "good" ones. I'm much more excited about trying new authors to see if they're going to blow my mind than something I know is just going to be a decent read.

I read The Sword of Shannara in my late teens and liked it. I'm sure people who have read more of the Shannara books would probably enjoy this series even more than I did.
