Description

"Detective Regan Pescoli has worked the 'Star Crossed Killer' case for months, never imagining she'd be captured by the madman she's been hunting. Regan knows exactly what he's capable of--and avoiding the same fate will take every drop of her courage and cunning. Regan Pescoli is unlike any woman Nate Santana has met before. But now she's missing, and Nate knows something is dangerously wrong. The only person who can help him find her is Detective Selena Alvarez, Regan's partner. As Nate and Selena dig deeper into the Star-Crossed Killer case and the body count rises, the truth about Regan's disappearance becomes chillingly clear. In the desolate Montana woods, evil is lurking. And with time running out, the only way to save Regan will be to get inside a killer's twisted mind and unravel a shocking message that is being revealed, one body at a time..."--p. This is the sequel to Left to Die, which I read in November. That was the first book in a series that features a pair of female detectives named Det. Selena Alvarez and Det. Regan Pescoli.

The story takes place in Montana’s Bitterroot Mountains, where a serial killer stages car accidents for his

victims who are driving down secluded mountain roads. He then “rescues” them, nurses them back to health, only to then tie them to trees in the wilderness leaving them to die, hence the name of the first book, Left to Die.

The sequel, Chosen to Die, picks up right where the first book leaves off. Det. Pescoli has been captured by the psychopath, and she must find a way to escape before she meets the same fate as the other victims.

The narrator, Alan Nebelthau, is terribly boring to listen to but the plot of the story hooked me.

The third book in the series is due to be released in August 2011, and I am looking forward to reading it!

MY RATING: 4 stars!

I found this book very entertaining. I read 1/2 the book in one night! Lots of characters yet I didn't feel that any were insignificant. I actually love the character of her "boyfriend", Nate Santana. I would love for him to have his own story. (I do not believe I have read book 1). I did lose

track of the timing within the book, so I am not sure how long the detective was held captive, but it seems as the tables turned quickly.

I just couldn't figure out who did what. You get all these suspects and then you get further in the book and you get a total different outlook on the who done it. Just an Awesome book to read.

Well, this wasn't bad but it wasn't great. I thought it was quite predictable except for the identity of the serial killer. Even so, when that was revealed I didn't go "Oh, I should have known that" because there had been no clues dropped along the way.

Bitterroot Range in Montana. He shoots out the tires of a vehicle driven by a lone woman, "rescues" her from the crash, takes her somewhere to heal and then kills her by tying her to a tree and letting her freeze to death. Each time he leaves a note with a partial message that he fills in by using the intials of the victim. He also leaves a star from the constellation of Orion carved into the tree. Now he has kidnapped Detective Pescoli and the Sheriff's office plus her lover are hunting him down.

Just OK - a serial killer captures Det. Regan Pescoli, the smart, strong-willed star of 2008's Left to Die. The Star-Crossed Killer, plague of Montana's Bitterroot Mountains, kidnaps injured women, tends them until they are healthy again, then photographs them and leaves them to die of exposure.

With time, it becomes clear that he is spelling out an obscure message with the women's initials. After a slow first third, the book settles down somewhat and focuses on Pescoli's efforts to escape her captor's maze-like lair and survive the deadly cold outside, with glimpses of her partner, Det. Selena Alvarez, attempting to track her down. Jackson spends too much time outlining the complicated plot and too little exploring the mind of the generic B-movie antagonist or the smarts and strengths of her heroines. (Aug.)

Detective Regan Pescoli, twice divorced, workaholic, and typical police detective of a Montana Sheriff's department is caught by a serial killer who has been terrorizing the rural county. Add in a romance with a no-account cowboy, an ex-husband who is taking her two teenage children, a

multi-millionaire, various eccentric local types and you have a great story. I liked how Jackson slowly developed the characters, revealing enough along the entire story so there is always a bit of surprise. Her descriptions of the area and weather ring true, bringing a touch of realism to the story. The length was long enough to bring depth and build suspense. The ending was good, effective resolving the major issue, but leaving a little on the table for another Pescoli story.

This second installment in Lisa Jackson’s series featuring Detectives Regan Pescoli and Serena Alvarez picks up where ‘Left To Die’ finished, with Regan captured and held by the ‘Star-Crossed’ serial killer. A gripping thriller with many interesting and complex characters it had me

Picks up where the previous book left off, this time with one of the detectives as a captive of the killer. Bratty kids still bratty, though they pledge to "do better".
Worth reading if you've read Book 1 to learn how it all comes out.
