The first book that I am going to review is Deadly Night by Heather Graham and is the 1st book in her Flynn brothers trilogy. Graham was a new to me author that I found scanning the web and I picked this book out of the many she has written using Fantastic Fiction (I love that website!). Deadly

Night introduces us to the three Flynn brothers with Aiden being the main focus of the story. Basically, the brothers learn that they have inherited a plantation in New Orleans from an unknown family member. While trying to figure out what to do with the historical house, Aiden finds out that there are mysterious things going on with the house and meets Kendall who is a fortune-teller. The two get involved in the mystery surrounding the house and the story goes from there. My thoughts on this one are going to be short and sweet as it has been awhile since I read it. I liked it (but didn't love it) and was interested enough to want to continue on with the trilogy and read more of this author's books. I liked the supernatural aspects that were included throughout the story and felt that it made it less like a typical romantic suspense novel. It didn't always flow well for me but it was a suspenseful page turner and I ended up enjoying it

The story of these 3 by the book former cops being asked to believe in something they cannot explain was great. I think this is how most of us feel about understanding the supernatural.

Deadly Night by Heather Graham. Mira 2008.

This is the first novel of the prolific Heather Graham that I have read and it is book one in a trilogy about the Flynn Brothers. They have inherited an old plantation house in New Orleans from an aunt they did not even know existed. The oldest, Aiden, is a
Show More
former FBI agent who left the agency after the death of his wife. His introduction to the Big Easy is an unnerving one. While walking along the muddy banks of the Mississippi he finds a human thigh bone with pieces of flesh clinging to it. He imagines the coroner will be interested in such a find, but not so. Aiden is remind in no uncertain terms that not long before, right after Katrina, bones and bodies could be found everywhere. His find means nothing. Or does it?

Until the death of Amelia Flynn, Kendall Montgomery had cared for the elderly lady who had spent her entire life at the plantation. This is where she wanted to die. Kendall was with her to the very end. The old house had it's legendary ghosts although Kendall thought such things nonsense. This despite the fact that she runs a small tea shop in town where she and her 2 employees Vinnie and Mason offer tarot card readings, claiming to clients that they can connect to the spirit world. It's all pretend on their part.

When the Flynn brothers arrive at the plantation house Kendall is making sure she has removed all of her possessions. As she was leaving through the doorway they meet. She finds Aiden to be rude, but the other two brothers, Jeremy and Zachery are quite pleasant company.

The brothers have formed their own private investigation agency. One case in particular dominates Aiden's thoughts, the disappearance of a young teen. He fears she is dead and perhaps the victim of a serial killer.

Kendall's skepticism about the paranormal starts to change. While giving a tarot card reading the skeleton on the Death card comes to life, or so it looks to her. She has dreams of Amilia who warns her of an evil that stalks New Orleans and Kendall is a particular target.

A series of frightening events bring Aiden and Amelia together; at first reluctantly and later much more agreeably . This suspenseful paranormal mystery has plenty of chilling moments and a nice touch of romance.

The Flynn brothers (Aiden, Jeremy, and Zachary) learn they have inherited a plantation home from an aunt in New Orleans they never knew. At first, they contemplate selling the house, but upon seeing it, decide to fix it up instead. Aiden, the oldest of the brothers, finds human bones on the

property. His instincts as a private investigator kick in and he begins to research the history of the home, and of missing persons in the area. He soon learns of decades of missing women, all last seen in New Orleans. With the help of Kendall, a local woman (and tarot card reader) that has close ties to Aiden’s aunt and the plantation, Aiden reveals the plantation’s dark history. Aiden is aware of the rumors that the plantation is haunted, but he refuses to believe in ghosts. That is, until Kendell starts seeing things during her tarot card readings. Women she does readings for disappear. Is it all tied to the Flynn plantation? This was my first taste of Heather Graham’s writing. It is obvious that she did a lot of research into New Orleans, and the civil war, in preparation for writing this book. The storyline and characters were well thought out and developed. I’ve read many a mystery, and most I’ve figured out before I reach the book’s halfway point. This one intrigued me up until the end. I’m looking forward to starting the next in the Flynn Brothers series, HAUNTED HARVEST.

After he and his brothers inherit a New Orleans plantation, Aidan Flynn, a private investigator, delves into the dark history of his new home, with the help of a beautiful tarot card reader, when he stumbles upon human bones.

This was romantic, suspenseful, with a little paranormal thrown in. Very

entertaining. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Superb! “Deadly Night” was an excellent paranormal thriller that kept you at the edge of your seat wanting more. The love story also helped too. It was a great find for me, and I will unquestionably read the next two books in the Flynn Brothers Trilogy. I would recommend this to all readers.

Heather Graham has failed to impress me over the last few years, but the premise of her books is always so good that I keep coming back. She surprised me and wowed me with this one! I loved the New Orleans setting, the ghosts, the voodoo...all of it was very eerie and suspenseful. It wasn't
Show More
dripping in romance, and the heroine wasn't a foolish helpless woman waiting for a man to rescue her. First in the series.

I really wanted to love this book. The idea of the book was right up my alley and I do enjoy series. But this book really bored me. I find it hard to put into words why exactly...just did. With much internal debate I decided I will ,however, continue on with the next in hopes that it improves.

While not one of Graham's best books, this is a solid, satisfying romance/suspense. The characters were surprisingly rounded, if the heroine did cave a bit too early for my liking. The ghost story portion and mystery were paced nicely and kept my attention. Overall I found it to be a pleasant,

intriguing mystery with an excellent love story.

Deadly Night is billed as the first book in the Flynn Brothers trilogy. Said brothers are Aidan, Jeremy, and Zachary. This is Aidan's book, so he gets to be our romantic lead.

All of the brothers are together in a private investigator business. See chapter one for the reason each left his law
Show More
enforcement job. They're all tragic, but Aidan's is the only personal tragedy: the death of his beloved wife, Serena. It's been five years, and he's still grim.

The brothers are the last of their line. Although they've all been to New Orleans before, this time a great-aunt they never knew existed has died and left them the family plantation. The Flynn Plantation has a reputation for being haunted. We learn about an 1863 family tragedy in the prologue. The event has been misinterpreted since then -- can the record ever be set straight?

Kendall Montgomery is our green-eyed, fiery red-haired heroine. Amelia Flynn helped her when she was younger and needed it. Kendall repaid that favor with love and loyalty, caring for the old woman in her last illness until she died in the same room in which she'd been born. Kendall also loves the plantation, but doesn't have the money to buy it even if Jeremy and Zachary hadn't persuaded Aidan that it should be restored, not sold.

Kendall gave up her dream of being a singer to major in psychology, then buy a shop. At Tea and Tarot, she reads palms and tea leaves as well as Tarot cards. Her employee and friend, Mason Adler, also majored in psychology and does the same readings. Kendall thinks she's a fake, looking for rational reasons for the things she sees that she shouldn't be able to see.

Aidan is far more skeptical than Kendall, but he may have a touch of the psychic in him. Certainly he's not willing to settle for the post-Katrina reasons he's given for finding two human bones on the grounds. Dr. Abel, the medical examiner, really, really doesn't think those bones are a priority, but the former FBI agent won't give up.

Will there be ghosts? Yes. Is there an unsuspected serial killer at work? Aidan thinks so. Will he be proven correct? Will he overcome the very bad first and second impressions he makes on beautiful Kendall?

The New Orleans setting is good, the haunted plantation interesting, and the romance not bad. I plan to check out book two.

Cat lovers, Kendall has a very large black Persian named Jezebel.

Deadly Night was exactly what you would expect from this writer in this genre. Nothing less, but not really anything more either. I enjoyed the read, but I also found it fairly predictable and flat. Very little leapt out at me as especially exciting or well crafted, though nothing clanged to the
Show More
floor as particularly mind-numbingly boring either. The author threw out a few red herrings in the form of Aiden's suspicions, but you just knew the real killer wasn't going to be revealed until the climax. The romance wasn't insta-love, but once it was understood that they would be involved it moved straight to soulmate territory, with no real in-between time. Neither Aiden or Kendall resonated strongly with me, but I didn't hate them. I liked her friends and his brothers, but I didn't love them. Even the city, New Orleans, with all of it's history and mystery came across as little more than any other town, maybe even any other small town. I didn't feel it's atmosphere. All in all, it passed the time and I wouldn't call it a dud, but it's not topping my favourites list either.

I love a good murder mystery!
This one was suspenseful and intriguing at the same time. There's a bit of the supernatural in it as well.

It was ok. The second half of the book had me sitting on the edge of my seat, the drama was intense. But the ending was too neat, wrapped up too easily, it felt like a formula book. I liked the basic story , loved the New Orleans ghost story just not sure I enjoy this authors style enough to

continue with the other two books. Something was missing, I not sure what.

I am not going to rate it as I just could not get into it - very slow trying to get into the book - going to go on my did not finish shelf - got up to chapter 9 and the book still wasn't grabbing me. Normally Heather Graham books will grab you from the start but this one kind of fell flat for me.
