Every once in a while I need a comfort book, sometimes I’m just feeling a little down and I need an old friend to cheer me up - lately J.D. Robb has been my teddy bear. Hard to believe a book about a hard-nose cop who tracks down serial kills can be just as good as a pint of Ben & Jerry’s - but
Show More
trust me, it’s better.

In this second incarnation of the story of Eve and Roarke, people are dying as always. This time it’s a high profile prosecuting attorney, and a sometimes colleague of Lieutenant Dallas, who had her throat viciously cut in a dark rainy alley. Meanwhile Eve is trying to come to grips with her feelings for Roarke, not to mention him pushing her to accept his love.

With the media almost one step ahead of her, her commander’s lack of objectivity, and Eve’s nightmares about a past trauma she’s repressed - oh, and some steamy loves scenes and heated arguments - it’s just another chase in the park for NYPSD’s best and most sarcastic.

Love this series but I recommend reading from the beginning just so you can follow the relationships of the characters.

Ok, so I didn't like the first 'in Death', mostly because of the 'romance' stuff. This one seemed better. Maybe I'll actually like the third one in the set.

This is the 2nd in the Eve Dallas and Rourke series. Eve chases a serial killer, moves in with Rourke who asks her to marry him in the end.

A great follow-up to the first book in this series. Still packed with steamy love scenes, an interesting crime plot, and engaging descriptions of a futuristic New York. As mentioned in the previous review, the formula IS pretty much the same, however. Despite that, it's still a hard to put down
Show More
book. In this case, Eve is tracking a killer who targets strong, influential women--he slices their throats from ear to ear. Her relationship with Roark is on shaky ground due to her difficulty accepting and reciprocating his love, and she continues to question his integrity by suspecting his level of involvement in the case.

Lt. Eve Dallas is on the job, investigating a series of murders where prominent women are getting their throats slashed. She is also dealing with her personal relationship with Roarke, which goes through some rocky patches. The blend of Eve's personal problems and her detective work set against the
Show More
backdrop of a future society creates a story that really keeps your interest. The reader on this CD did a good job, especially with Roarke's accent, which just captured the flavor of an Irish lilt without overdoing it. Fans of romantic suspense probably already know about the Eve Dallas series, but if they don't they should definitely give it a read.

I didn't really like Eve Dallas in the first half of this book, she was just channeling her inner drama-queen a bit too much for my taste. Once she toned it down a bit though, the story got quite interesting and was wrapped up just shortly after the reader figures out whodunnit.

Absolutely wonderful. Excellent. One of the best of the series. Deeply emotional, it's almost painful to re-read. Great balance between the romance and the suspense, and the emotions are spread out through the entire cast of the book. The characters, and not just the main ones, are well-developed,
Show More
and the main characters themselves are so real in this one that it makes them seem somewhat flat in other books. Eve and Roarke go through so much emotional pain to connect, and Roarke is unusually vulnerable and human here.

It was interesting reading this early installment in the series, because I've read most of the later ones. This is the book that first introduces Peabody (though very lightly), and there are things that happen in this book that I realized are referenced in later books. Also, I noticed that "Eve
Show More
uses herself as bait" is a theme that reappears often throughout this series. All in all it was pretty good, though the characters aren't as polished as they are later in the series. But that's pretty common in a series of this size.

Book Two of J.D. Robb's In Death Series is just as cleaver as book one in grabbing your attention and keeping it hooked. Lieutenant Eve Dallas hunts a killer that is taking out successful and prominently powerful women with a vicious slash across the throat. Eve's relationship with Roarke continues
Show More
to develop, and her professional relationship with her Commander is put to the test when the first victim happens to be a close personal friend of his family. Eve must do what she does best, defend the dead, in order to bring the killer to justice.

I don't recommend starting this book unless you have the next two or three books in the series available to read when you finish this one. Enjoy.

Of the early books, this one isn't as high on my list. As another reviewer has noted, Eve comes a bit strong in the first part of the book. I understand being afraid of a relationship, especially considering her background, but I thought the whole afraid to commit to a relationship with Roarke
Show More
thing was over the top.

I've found this to be a recurring problem with Robb. Perhaps it is her romance novel background. Overall though, her characters are outstanding and I want to get to know more about them.

This book introduces further characters that will become important to the future books but does so in a way that the reader cannot immediately tag them as such. I like this, it adds a deal of realism to the story. We don’t always know who will play an important role in our lives.

As with any cozy
Show More
murder mystery (oxymoron anyone?) this story follows a predictable pattern but my heart still beats a little faster at the dramatic conclusion even though I know how it ends.

I also really enjoy the development of the relationship between Eve and Roark. The negotiating between what is my life and what is your life and how do we merge the two feels supremely real. Anyone who has done this will recognize the pitfalls that come with trying to merge two lives, although most people probably don’t have crazed killers after them while doing it, still…

It's even better than book one in the series. The romance is realistic and believable and has just the right amount of "I wish that would happen to me" in it.

The detective part is more sensible and less disturbing in concept than the first. We see a bit more of Summerset so perhaps he becomes more
Show More
prominent in future books. We, fortunately, see less of Eve's nasty past interfering with her lovely present.

I'm starting book 3 right now.

#2 in Robb's (Roberts) 'IN DEATH' series picking up right after the first.

New York police Lieutenant Eve Dallas looks for a serial killer of prominent career women. Eve tenaciously follows the clues whether they jepordize her romantic relationship with a millionaire or her beloved job. Truth and
Show More
justice are the goals she works resolutely toward and that lead her finally to solve the case, save the life of a friend, and command the respect of her lover Rourke.

WHile on one hand Rourke can be described as unbelievably everything on the other I find him a perfect companion to our flawed Dallas.
THis is only the second in a very long series but it is one of my favourites as everything was still very new to me.

J.D Robb's In Death books are essentially murder mysteries in a futuristic setting, with a touch of romance mixed in. The first in the series, Naked In Death, introduces Eve Dallas, a homicide detective in New York.

In this, the second book, she is solving the murders of several women in prominent
Show More
social positions. This mystery is frankly not that mysterious--I knew who the killer after about 100 pages and was just waiting for the peices to fall into place. It's not boring, however. In addition to the police drama, Eve's relationship with Roarke continues to progress. Overall, it's a fairly good book and a very entertaining series.

A serial killer is targeting prominant, successful women - all known to Roarke. So once again Eve has a case where her love life - Roarke - interfers/intersects with her professional life. Nadine has a big role in this one, as one of the victims was wearing her coat, and might have substituted for
Show More
her.

I didn’t think Glory In Death was as good as Naked in Death. To me, there was no real huge dramatic plot twists. The book was just a regular murder mystery, with a little romance and suspense. I was not really shocked to find out who the killer was. I am looking forward to reading Judgment In
Show More
Death, the next book in the series.

Pure unadulterated well-written, addictive brain candy. I'm already looking for the next one. Good characters, new ones added this time, good mystery, exciting ending, lots of chick-lit sex, and a rich, powerful handsome stud standing by to rescue the princess cop. What more can you ask for on a
Show More
rainy afternoon?

Not bad at all, though very similar in terms of plot and style to the first book. Would have been a four star if I hadn't read them so close together, but right now it's still fresh on my mind so I guess maybe I had expected something a little more from the follow up.

I really enjoyed this book. I like how Eve and Rourke's relationship is progressing. The mystery in this book wasn't as good as in the previous book, I figured out the killer much earlier, but I still enjoyed watching Eve put it all together. Looking forward to book 3!

This one went fast and I liked it even better than the first one. Read it in three days on the treadmill and a couple hours of late night reading. Turned pages faster and the pacing kept up. PLUS the relationship moved along. I'm timing in each book where I figure out who the villain is. In the
Show More
first one it was about 2/3rds of the way through. In this one it was a little later, maybe 3/4s. A fun game.

I can see I'm in for the long haul on this series. There goes my Nook budget again. :)

Book two in the series wasn't much better than the first. I had a few issues like on page 72 she is driving through the suburbs and is musing that dads here probably don't molest their children in an atmosphere like this...but the last book was ALL about a father molesting his daughter and
Show More
subsequently his granddaughter...

And Roarke still carries that stupid button...

I really hated it.

I liked the relationship part of it but was disappointed with the detective part. The killer was obvious to me, though she had me questioning myself once, and she never questions him. Really, he was the first on scene of the last murder, he was looking for fame and was perfect for the profile, and
Show More
he was a total dick wad. I was fuming even after the second scene that he shows up immediately and she doesn't take him in for questioning right then and there. I was thinking, start looking at him too. But no, we go through, and plow to the ending I knew was coming. And then the hostage scene in the end, just pissed me off. Well I did like it but mainly for the Roake and Dallas story. If I was rating it for the mystery I would give it a 2... if that. Still it was good for the interplay between the main characters... and the butler. I am so wondering about him. I'll definitely read the next and hope that the story lines get less predictable.

Prickly Eve finds herself once again investigating a murder that bumps up again her new love Roarke- though at least this time she doesn't think he's a suspect. More importantly, she has to work her way around her feelings for Roarke, and his feelings for her while trying to catch a killer, and
Show More
fighting off the personal involvement of her commander. There are moments here of intense emotional vulnerability for both Roarke and Eve, though as always in this series it is Eve's rawness that compels the reader.

Now that I've started, I may end up re-reading the entire series.

Though I figured out early on who the killer was, I really enjoyed watching Eve puzzle it out.

Naturally the best part of the book is Eve and Roarke. Eve is still struggling to accept Roarke in her life and Roarke is upset that she's
Show More
struggling. I love this aspect of the novel. I find their relationship so..real.
