Man wakes up in the hospital and learns that 18 days earlier his wife was murdered and his infant daughter was kidnapped. Page turner with lots of interesting characters and who do you trust - who are your friends and who are your enemies.

This is an interesting set up, someone has attacked Dr Marc Seidman's home, Seidman is shot, his wife killed and his baby daughter is missing and a few days later a ransom demand arrives. When everything goes horribly wrong Seidman vows to find his daughter and is forced to confront his past. Once
Show More
again Coben explores his favourite theme of how the past, and past relationships, haunt the future within a plot where the reader is never quite sure who, or on which side, the characters are. A fast read.

The story is about a man whose daughter is kidnapped. He tries to find her back.

I read one Coben before this, so I knew the trick when I started reading. That doesn't mean I wasn't completely surprised then the story ended.
Coben doesn't go for the least suspicous suspect, like a lot of thriller
Show More
writers do. He just writes a brilliant story.
I like the way he writes. He always chooses just the right words.
There is a lot to laugh about too, but with subtlety.
A definite recommendation!

Really thrilling book! It takes off running with, "When the first bullet hit my chest, I thought of my daughter," for the first line, and it does not slow down. Dr. Marc Seidman wakes up in the hospital after being shot twice to find his wife dead and 6 month old daughter missing. 18 months after a
Show More
failed ransom trade, a second ransom note is received. Marc is determined not to make the same mistake twice, but will he be able to find Tara this time? Is it possible she is still alive, even? or is he just deluding himself?
Great read. I like Harlan Coben's books.

Delightful fluff. A bit too much testosterone for my taste. Too many characters. I loved the twisty ending even though I had trouble remembering who eveyrbody was. Un-pu-down-able well-crafted entertainment.

This has been my audio book since Thanksgiving, and it was much better than I was expecting. I wasn't overwhelmed by the other Coben book I've read (Just One Look), but this one grabs you and then keeps you involved with its various twists and turns. The nature of the crime behind the kidnapping
Show More
was not what I expected. I also did not expect the final twist. This was a great thriller that keeps you guessing.

The only issue I had with it was that the characters tended to have many many long-winded thought monologues. This is probably less annoying if you're reading it and not listening to it.

great book - greatly recommend for mystery readers

This was my second Harlan Coben novel. The first one was The Woods, which I enjoyed very much. No Second Chance is a little "busier" then The Woods. There are a lot of people to keep track of & quite a lot of twist & turns. This, however, makes for a very exciting story. There are a few spots that
Show More
are too unbelievable to ignore, and this is the only reason I gave it 4 stars rather then 5. The characters are all likeable, the plot is interesting, very little if anything is predictable and it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Overall, this is a great book & perfect for a summer beach read!

I always like Coben's books. Good thriller and good plot.

Back Cover Blurb:
'When the first bullet hit my chest, I thought of my daughter'.....Marc Seidman wakes up in ICU to find his wife has been murdered and his baby daughter, Tara, has vanished. Then something arrives to give Marc new hope: a
Show More
ransom note. 'We are watching. If you contact the authorities you will never see your daughter again. There will be no second chance'.
The note is chilling, but Marc sees only one thing: the chance to save his daughter. And, haunted by deception and deadly secrets - about his wife, about an old love, and about his own past - he vows to bring Tara home....at any cost.

I guess I am behind the times because this is my first book by this author. No Second Chance is a suspense filled book that surprises the reader from beginning to end. The main character finds himself involved in a kidnapping and murder that just does not make sense. I was impressed by the way the
Show More
story unfolded and the pieces of the puzzle started to fit together.

I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by Harlan Coben.

Doctor's wife is killed, baby kidnapped. There are weird assasins, a Russian baby-selling ring, and an ex-FBI beauty. Very fast-paced. All of Harlan Coben's books are very good.

I'm a sap, I'll admit it. This book made me cry. It's every parent's nightmare, your child goes missing. While trying to solve the mystery of his infant daughter's disappearance, he stumbles across a sinister plot that is even bigger than her kidnapping and his wife's murder.

This is a fun story
Show More
that will keep you reading long into the night!

I started reading this book about a month ago and wasn't able to finish it bcuz of numerous distractions. I decided to pick it up again yesterday and managed to finish it today. It was good.... it was almost like reading two stories in one book. With all the different sub-plots, I always would
Show More
think, now how does this tie into the kidnapping of the baby? Mr. Coben did a great job of tying everything together. Just when you'd think you knew what happened, he throw in another twist. I'm glad I decided to pick this one up again. (I guess I gave it a 2nd chance! Ha!) I've read Tell No One and now I will read more by him.

In No Second Chance Harlan Coben writes about a man who was left for dead when his wife was murdered and his infant daughter was kidnapped. Naturally the police think he planned it. As they focus their investigation on him, the desperate father becomes convinced he can't just "leave it to the
Show More
authorities" or trust them to pursue new leads.

This kind of thing makes me want to read with my hand over one eye. As the reader I know he's innocent, and I hate seeing this insult added to his injury. I can't fault the book for that though. If the author didn't do this though, I'd say it wasn't realistic. The book was hard to put down with lots of unexpected twists and turns and an ending I didn't see coming. Recommended.

First time reader of HC, and what a cracking story this was. Lots of suprise twists and turns, and a fathers despair over his childs disappearance and his wife's murder.

This story begins with the lead character shot and left for dead. Happily, he isn't, but his life will never be the same. His wife is dead, his infant daughter is missing. So begins two years of physical and mental torture and despair, wondering what happened, hoping against hope that his daughter
Show More
lives.
I read this in one day for the simple reason that I could not put it down. One page demanded another until I found myself up way past my bedtime and happily finished. It is very good suspense and mystery.

I have loved everything Harlen Coben writes. They generally seem to be more geared towards the male interest but good enough to please everyone. I love getting his books on tape for long trips that both my fiance and I enjoy.

A man wakes up in the hospital and learns that 18 days earlier his wife was murdered and his infant daughter was kidnapped. Yet another page-turning thriller which keeps you guessing almost to the final page.

Another very enjoyable book by Harlan Coben. This book opens with a bang, capturing your interest from the very first sentence and it never lets you go. Throughout the book you are left constantly postulating theories and testing them against the evidence. Harlan Coben is most definitely the master
Show More
of this. I got certain elements of the book right, but always with Harlan Coben books once you think all twists have been exposed, another comes along right at the end. I would definitely recommend this one to anybody who enjoys a good mystery with twists.

This plot felt a bit as if Coben had two strands in mind: one where a child is abducted during a home invasion, and the other an adoption scam where illegal immigrants give birth to babies who are found "good homes".

The final truth of the connection between the two strands was horrifying.

One of the
Show More
problems with this story was that I didn't particularly like Marc Seidman the main character. I found him self-opinionated, always sure he was right, and blind to alternatives.

Fast moving and with plenty of twists, this is just about everything I could ask for in a thriller. There were a few moments where the dialogue fell flat, or things felt a bit too contrived, but for the most part, this was an engaging read that was a great escape from reality. If you like thrillers
Show More
or suspense novels with twists, this is a good choice, with the slight caveat that some of the characters are a bit flat/stereotypical. But, then, the story is so good that that's rarely noticed. Recommended overall.

I re-read this book with a writer's eye paying attention to his plotting. Very skillful and intricate.
LibraryThing member bhabeck
This is the first Harlan Coben book I've read. His writing style was interesting and well-paced. The story generally unfolded naturally and didn't need the author to hurry it along or insert clues that the characters would have been unable to discover on their own. The storyline was good and kept
Show More
me reading - not so many red herrings as to become frustrated. I will read more Harlan Coben.

The book desciption from Amazon:
Dr. Marc Seidman has been shot twice, his wife has been murdered, and his six-month-old daughter has been kidnapped. When he gets the ransom note - he knows he has only one chance to get this right. But there is nowhere he can turn and no one he can trust.
