Bonnie and Clyde meets "Love Story": Self-proclaimed "good girl" (GG for short) Axi Moore (age 16) impulsively decides to go on a cross-country trip with her friend Robinson, starting in Portland, Oregon and making their way across the country via an array of stolen vehicles such as a Harley and a

Mustang. During their trek, we learn more about how they met (as patients in a cancer ward) as Axi and Robinson fall madly in love with a tragic ending just around the corner! Would recommend this for Lurlene McDaniel fans--you may want to have some Kleenex on hand!

If you liked Hazel and Augustus in The Fault in Our Stars you will love Axi and Robinson in First Love.

We meet the 16-year-olds as Axi asks her best friend Robinson – also the love of her life, although she can’t tell him – to run away with her on a cross-country bus trip. Her young sister

has died of cancer “before she could tie her shoes.” Her mother left and Axi has no idea where she is except “East.” Her father is an alcoholic who hides his feelings at the Reel M Inn Tavern in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Besides that, school isn’t going so well either. Why not run away?

Robinson doesn’t hesitate before agreeing on accompanying her on the cross-country adventure. However, he decides Greyhound isn’t their style and hotwires a Harley as they start their journey.

They stop in, among other places, Torrance, California, where they ride around a racetrack; Hollywood, where they swim in a pool behind a for-sale mansion and crash a star-studded benefit for a children’s hospital; Las Vegas, where they are befriended by a kind-hearted stripper and go way overboard when stopped by a police officer while speeding in a stolen Porshe; and Detroit, where we learn a little more about the mysterious Robinson.

Along the way their feelings for each other deepen and we’re eventually told how Axi and Robinson met, became friends and knew they would be together forever.

Their journey ends in Asheville, North Carolina, where Axi learns more about Robinson in just a few days than she’d known in the couple of years since they’d met. She also learns how to say good-bye.

James Patterson, with Alice Raymond, has done it again. How this man and his collaborators manage to churn out so many winners will always be a mystery. To me, though, he’s a gift – just like Axi and Robinson are to each other.

This reminded me of several other stories all rolled into one. Good girl Axi Moore plans a cross country road trip with her best and dying friend, Robinson. She wants to tell him how she truly feels about him, and finally does. Great story for those looking for a story that ends with predictable

sadness. Would appeal to those who loved The Fault in Our Stars.

Not a very inspiring book. Characters were kind of superficial and not very deep.

Although totally unrealistic, this was a sweet book about friendship, first love, taking risks and living life to the full. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Have you ever read one of James Patterson’s contemporary romances!?

They are all so good! I think I have read them all now! This one was pretty good and definitely brought the tears! It was a bit predictable and some of the scenes were out there, but I still really enjoyed it. I know this one is

one of his older ones, but I really hope he has more coming out in the future.
