Description

Fiction. Mystery. Romance. Humor (Fiction.) HTML: A Featured Alternate Selection of the Literary Guild and Doubleday Book Club and a Main Selection of the Mystery Guild Janet Evanovich, bestselling author of One for the Money, Two for the Dough, and Three to Get Deadly, scores big with Four to Score, her most thrilling Stephanie Plum adventure yet. Working for her bail bondsman cousin Vinnie, Stephanie is hot on the trail of revenge-seeking waitress Maxine Nowicki, whose crimes include bail jumping, theft, and extortion. Someone is terrifying Maxine's friends, and those who have seen her are turning up dead. Also on the hunt for Maxine is Joyce Barnhardt, Stephanie's archenemy and rival bounty hunter. Stephanie's attitude never waversâ?? even when aided by crazy Grandma Mazur, ex-hooker and wannabe bounty hunter Lula, and transvestite rock musician Sally Sweetâ?? and even when Stephanie makes an enemy whose deadly tactics escalate from threatening messages to firebombs. All of this pales in comparison, though, with an even greater danger Stephanie faces, when, homeless and broke, she and her hamster Rex move in with a vice cop Joe Morelli. RATED PG35 for licentious wit and libidinous cohabitation… (more)

I've seen Janet Evanovich's books on shelves for such a long time but somehow the covers just never enticed me sufficiently to read one. Well, I finally picked one up and ... I love Stephanie Plum, the bounty hunter and her motley crew of friends and family.

What a delightful book. It's got all the
Show More
elements I enjoy - humor, a good mystery and sufficient twists to keep me guessing. a dose of romance doesn't hurt either.

I'm think this is the start of a wonderful addiction.

It's about this time in the series that you start to lose track of just how many cars Stephanie's lost, and how many times she's almost slept with someone. Not to mention, how many times her gun and/or pepper spray are somewhere else.

Stephanie is not getting any smarter as she goes along. If these books weren’t funny, I wouldn’t bother with them. I think that the preoccupation with Morelli and the sex distracted from the plot somewhat. The characters were interesting though, Sally Sweet is hilarious and Joyce Barnhart was
Show More
truly annoying, although she could have been used better. I did like how Lula kept zapping her with the stun gun though.

Comforting read. You know what you will get every time. Stephanie's car gets destroyed, she has titillating episodes with two different men and pulls off a lot of Lucille Ball maneuvers. I like it, especially when my brain is too tired to do serious reading.

Seriously, this book was hilarious!!! I laughed all the way through it. Joe's grandma's evil eye had me cracking up, and Stephanie's grandma ... it just all has me cracking up. Great read when you need something humorous! LOL!

I liked this one because of the slow setup, and because it was lighter on the 'relationship'. But I thought it was telling that I already couldn't remember what the book was about. It's like cheap chcolate. satisfying at the time, but afterwards, it's not that great. until you want more.

Fun, fasting moving book with interesting characters and story lines

How can you not love a bail bondswoman who loves the drive thru and gets her business done with a former hooker as a side-kick? LOVE this series! Snort-tastic!

I have very mixed feelings about this series. I think the problem might be that I've read them, so far, one after the other. I think I may be bored :)
This is not the best mystery I've ever read and I can't help feeling that the trashiness factor attempts to cover this up. I think I may throw myself
Show More
off a bridge if I ever hear/read the line 'damned skippy' ever again.

Maxine Nowicki has jumped bail. Stephanie has the file. She moves in with Joe Morelli temporarily.

Stephanie Plum mysteries are always amusing and entertaining. A good beach read.

I think that this was my least favorite of the series thus far. Although I was happy that Stephanie and Morelli got together, it felt so anti-climatic within the bounty hunter part of the story. I liked the rivalry introduced when the woman who stole Stephanie's husband became
Show More
a competing bounty hunter and I would have liked to have seen more of that played out. It wasn't because Lula kept shooting her with her stun gun. Most of all, I just felt like I was sent on a wild goose chase as a reader based upon the way this all played out. It was too contrived for me.

This is one of my favorite books in this series, so far; I find myself really liking Morelli and the role that he plays in Stephanie's life. In this one, Stephanie continues her bounty hunting adventures and she gets the "eye." So much fun!

Stephanie Plum is at it again, along with Morrelli, Ranger, Lula and Grandma Mauzer. This time she has added a 6 foot transvestive named Sally as a sidekick. If you are a fan of this series of books then no more explaining is needed. Just read it.

I don't seem to be getting as into this episode of the Stephanie Plum series--not sure if it's the CD reader (CJ Critt doesn't hold a candle to Lorelei King!). I'm just kind of bored. could be that I started the series at the end, so the introduction of significant characters (ie Sally Sweet) and
Show More
plotlines (spoiler alert: Stephanie and Joe get together) was not news to me.

A typical Stephanie Plum tale. Characters are over-the-top-outrageous; plot is thin; pace is quick and sexual innuendo is heavy. The actual sex would barely make an R rating at the movies, although it would clearly qualify for language. The relationship between Stephanie and Morelli advances
Show More
slightly in this book, although I've read far enough ahead in the series to get a very formulaic feel out of it. It's something of a shame as the characters are interesting enough that some serious development over the length of the story arc would have been nice.

An Evanovich is a good read for an airplane, although there doesn't seem to be any reason to read this one instead of any of the others. Still, Stephanie Plum is like potato chips - consume one and you'll probably want to finish the rest.

This is not a book to read in bed, especially if your husband is trying to sleep. Laugh out loud uproarously funny stuff. Maxine is accused of stealing her ex-boyfriend's car so she runs him over, jumps bail and makes him jump through various hoops. He wants his love letters back, but they're not
Show More
really love letters. Maxine sends him clues to find them and he has to do nasty things like dig through a bag of dog poop to find the clue. Stephanie and her posse of misfits goes after Maxine and tries to help the guy retrieve his letters.
Stephanie can't figure out the clues so she enlists the aid of Sally Sweet, a very large, very hairy cross-dresser who at the moment is playing in a drag band and living with a gay man. Sally will tell you he's straight. He influences Stephanie's 73-year-old grandma to join his band and eventually Lula will be their lead singer. But that's another story.
Then there is the question of men - Joe Morelli the good, but hot cop or Ranger who doesn't always follow the rules to get his man and who is in my opinion, even hotter.
Mayhem rules; cars and apartments are blown up leaving Stephanie high and dry, but there is always the 53 powder blue Buick and a bed at Joe's or Ranger's place.
I couldn't put this one down. LOVED! it.

No case bounty hunter Stephanie Plum picks up is easy. She is always sent on a hilarious adventure saturated with excitement, cars blowing up (mostly Stephanie's), and other types of mayhem. Four To Score is no different as Stephanie has to pick up Maxine for being FTA and is joined by Lula a

250-pound ex-hooker, her crazy Grandma Mazur, and now a seven-foot transvestite rock star named Sally Sweet who joins the cast because of his talent of figuring out riddles and codes. Laugh out loud. A truly riotous addition to the Stephanie Plum series.

In the fourth enstament of the Stephanie Plum Novels, Cupcake, aka Babe, finds herself in life threatening situation--again. Someone is out to kill her, she is cempeting against her Nemesis Joyce, Ranger and Morelli are her only chance of survival. We meet Sally Sweet, a transvestite. I find it
Show More
adorable when Sally and Morelli size each other out..I have read that scene several times and it just keeps getting better.

Now that I’ve finished the fourth book in the series, I’m realizing the little things that make me like series so much. Of course, there’s the fact that Stephanie has the job many wish we could have. Who wouldn’t love to kick some butt and get paid for it?

I also love the fact that all the
Show More
women carry guns. At the beginning of Four to Score, they’re all sitting around the bond office having a “gun off”, if you’ll call it. Even Grandma Mazur has a gun. I don’t know many women — well any at all — that carry guns around here. Maybe there’s a secret society or something I’ve been missing out on. But in the Burg, if you don’t have a gun, you’re the one out of the loop.

I am starting to appreciate Janet Evanovich’s writing. One thing I noticed in this book is she has a way of writing about the characters. If you haven’t read the previous books, there’s a short synopsis of who they are. But if you’ve read them, it’s not too much to where it’s repetitive. It catches you up and gives you an idea without being overkill.

I liked Four to Score. I like that Stephanie sticks with it even though she gets firebombed and her car soaked in gasoline and blazed. I also like that some “co-stars” have come into play. Love former “ho” Lula and man-in-dress Sally.

I give Four to Score 3 bookmarks.

Well, I did it. I went back to this series because I wanted to read something funny and easy. And thankfully, it delivered and I am back on the Evanovich train. Stephanie et al had me busting up so quick I felt like #3 had been a fluke. I think what really makes these books great is the characters.
Stephanie meets the most hilarious people – grandmas with ‘the eye’, cross-dressers, and ex hookers. But then these seemingly innocent people get a hold of a gun and the hilarity notches up about 100%. I’m sure this series will be my go-to for when I want a brainless, fun read.

Stephanie Plum is as hilarious as ever in this fourth book of the series. I have to admit that I lauged out loud more than once. It takes a lot for a book to get me to do so. Looking forward to the next one.
