I found that this was a better read than the last one. Someone in a hospital is killing people who are starting to recover from their illnesses. The hospital isn't admitting this. When a relative of one of the women turns up dead this becomes personal.
There are also some women being murdered and
Show More
posed in expensive cars while wearing expensive clothing.
This one kept me guessing, it isn't until the very last minute that you find out who dunnit. It's also interesting to see the women develop both their personal and professional lives.

Having read a great many of James Patterson's previous novels, I went into this one not expecting great literature, but rather a story that would keep me turning the pages. I guess I can't say that I was disappointed in that regard, but I do feel like Patterson (or whoever did the bulk of the
Show More
writing on this one) wasn't up to form. It was basically two non-cohesive stories jammed together to form one mediocre novel. The constant flipping from first to third person was distracting, and there was no character development. I did feel compelled to finish the book to find out 'who done it?', but it was very anticlimactic in the end. Not his best work by a long shot.

This book was merely "meh" for me. I didn't understand why there was a second, 100% unrelated storyline that is wrapped up halfway through the book. I kept waiting for something to connect the two. It's like Patterson had these two storylines he wanted to do, but couldn't get enough out of either
Show More
one for a standalone book. And haven't there been enough "Angel of Death" stories? There was nothing special about this one, and there was never an explanation of why. And Yuki's announcement at the end seemed a little sudden.

Phew, maybe I disliked it a little more than I thought!

333 pages, 139 chapters -- perhaps that is telling enough about the plot development. Made for TV literature... OK, far from great

Yet another excellent book in the Womens Murder Club series, this time about an 'untouchable' medical killer. The Murder Club rises to the occasion and wins the day.

I found this volume of the Women's Murder Club. The story contained two completely unrelated mysteries, the first of which was solved with little circumstance or explanation about 3/4 of the way through. The second mystery was solved in the last chapter with very little explanation. I was quite
Show More
disappointed with the whole thing.

The usual meeting of the Women's Murder Club..... Lindsay has a gut feeling... Yuki's mom dies and "hospital murders" now become personal. Investigation into whodunnit... leaves you hanging until the very end. Unrelated murder duo killing young "working girls" and leaving them dressed in expensive
Show More
clothing and staged in expensive cars... their storyline ends 2/3rds of the way through the book very suddenly and with little effort on the part of the murder club. This is another "mindless" but entertaining read.

Patterson is getting way too lazy with these. What started out as a very promising series has become lackluster at best.

This book felt like it should have been two separate plot-lines; neither of which were very good. I don't think it ever really came to a climax. Not Patterson's best work.

I did not find this one of the best books I have read by James Patterson. Maybe it was my mood, however, I will give it a 3 and will move on to the next book.

Ehh, wasn't overly impressed with this one. Granted I chewed it up as I do with every other Patterson but there was just something missing. And as was the case with "Mary, Mary", the ending felt contrived and
Show More
somewhat rushed.

Don't know if I've burnt out on Patterson or what, but I much prefer his earlier stuff. That said, I'll still probably get some of his new releases as they come out.

I like serial killer novels but this was just too hard for me to read. The chapters are very short, 1 to 2 pages long. This makes the story jump about a bit too much for my liking. The general plot of the book was also fragmented. There is a second storyline in the book that seems to just have been
Show More
added as filler. I think I will pass on books by this author in the future if this is representative of his works.

This book was okay, but not the best so far in the series. The major plot revolves around patients dying at San Francisco General hospital. Including someone that Lindsey knows. That brings a whole new dimension to the case and Lindsey vows to stop the killer.

The other case going on involves girls
Show More
being killed, dressed up and staged. I found myself more interested in this case than the hospital murders, and this one was just a sideline to the main show.

I can't really say why I didn't like this one as much as some of the others, it just seems forgettable to me. There wasn't anything that left me breathless. In fact, I think I'll put off finishing this series for a while.

The 5th installment of the Women’s Murder Club series was another solid read. It consisted of two concurrently running plots. Boxer was tracking down a serial murderer while the city was absorbed by a major malpractice trial waged against one of the city's best known hospitals. I was a bit
Show More
disillusioned with the conclusion of the first plot which ended approximately 100 pages from the end of the story. It just didn't feel right to me, and I kept waiting for the shocking spin that never came. Fortunately the second plot line kept the story moving. But once again I wasn't completely satisfied with the conclusion. It just wasn't as crisp and neat as what I have come to expect from this series. The story did move along and kept me interested, I just wish the conclusions were a bit more satisfying.

Lt. Lindsay Boxer and gang investigate murders of young women who end up dolled-up in fancy sports cars-displayed in death. Also, side investigation turns full fledged pulling in all the Women's murder club and includes Yuki's mother's death.
Typical Patterson pace and characterizations. The
Show More
breakdown of Yuki seems uncharacteristic and her comeback seems out of place as well. The first case was solved fairly rapidly and only by a stroke luck with all dead ends at the beginning. This one isn't as good as the others, but I will still read the next one.

As always a very fast-paced novel - a quick read. Enjoyed this as always. Number 5 in the series.

The 5th Horseman has the WMC working on a case that invovles the hospital and the death of Yuki's mother. It also has a malpractice suit in it against the hospital. Very good book. I figured some other parts would be added together and was suprised when some of them weren't.

Very little character development; Very little background or explanation about the motives and/or issues that were behind the pair of killers who left their victims in cars; Unfulfilling.

A pretty typical novel. Again, you don't really have to read the series in order, but it helps. This one does seem a bit shallow when it comes to the plot, but still an enjoyable read. Three out of five.

I hadn't read a Patterson in a while when I picked this up and it immediately brought back all of the reasons that I like his books.

After a bit of a let-down for me with 4th of July, the Women's Murder Club is back in fine form. Patterson's characters are all likeable and easy to root for. The
Show More
writing style is what I would call very comfortable and the storyline moves along at the usual Patterson frenetic pace. Once I start, I usually don't want to put one of his books down and The 5th Horseman is no exception.

I read a lot over lunch at work and another caveat of reading his novels is that the chapters are usually short and it's always easy to find a place to stop (even if you REALLY don't want to!)

Anyway, I guess this isn't a review for The 5th Horseman exactly, but more of a review of James Patterson novels in general. He writes books that are incredibly fun and engaging to read and I would recommend picking one up! If you can start at the beginning of one of his series, that would be best, but another caveat of his writing is that he does a great job of filling the reader in on what's going on, so if you pick up a series in the middle, you're still ok.

It is a thrilling story. There are two different cases which are solved by the fabulous women's murder club. As always they are involved not only in a professional way but also in a personal way. For a long time it was impossible for me to guess who the bad guys are. There are such a lot of
Show More
fantastic twist and angles. The outcome was a real surprise.
