Twenty-eight animals are featured in this book. They are divided into three sections--Almost Gone, Gone Forever, and Coming Back. The "Almost Gone" category covers 21 animals from all over the world and gives an estimate as to how many of each species is still alive. There are four animals listed
Show More
in the "Gone Forever" category...when the actual number of extinct species goes way beyond that. Finally, three animals are mentioned as "Coming Back" and the efforts to save those species are explained. The drawings of each animal are interesting and there are some key facts included with each animal. It is a nice book and animals are always a great subject of interest for kids.

The art for this book reminded me of Eric Carle ("Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What did You See?"). It goes through a short description of 28 animals, it tells you the number thought to still exist, if any, while telling you where they are located as well. I thought it was very interesting and I liked
Show More
at the end how they mentioned a few animals that were brought back from the brink. Would have been nice if they said why they choose these animals out of the thousands of others that have gone extinct or close to it.

Summary: As the title suggests, this book is about a variety of Endangered Animals. Response: I am always fascinated by animals which made this book fun to look at and read. Connection: A fun book for science and working on the word, Endangered. Students love learning about rare animals.

I really like this book because it goes into detail about all the different animals that are going extinct, how it happened, and how many are left. The illustrations are beautiful and are collage painted paper. I really like how the book talks about what one can do to get involved and educated
Show More
about endangered animals. It also gives examples on how certain animals that were almost gone, are now coming back from people trying to protect them.

I learned a great deal from reading this book. This book details some of the most interesting creatures that are endangered in the world today. Each page is devoted to a specific animal (at the top it mentions where it lives and how many are left). I really liked how the book is very specific about
Show More
how many are left--doing this makes the prospect of their imminent extinction all the more powerful and scary. It's adds a necessary weightiness to the topic that is important for this subject to be meaningful. Each description provides some of the reasons why the animal is close to extinction. The illustrations are unique and I like how the reader is not bombarded with too many facts or details about the animal mentioned.

This book is about endangered animals, their characteristics, why they are almost extinct and what can we do to protect them. It is a great book to use in the classroom to teach about animals, nature and simple things that students can do to protect them.

This book is very informational. I think this book would be great in teaching kids about endangered animals and what it mean to be endangered versus extinct. This would also be great for a lesson on just the different kinds of animals or what we can do to prevent this happening to others. The
Show More
artwork in this book is great, and really showcases the animals in a fun way. I think the author gave enough information so that it was interesting but not overkill and boring.

Informational book describing 21 endangered species, 4 extinct species and 3 species that are "returning". Illustrations are paper/fabric cut outs with lots of color and detail. Approachable text with facts and estimated number left of animals that may shock the reader. Maps and more animal details

listed in the back of the book.

This book describes many different species, some that are endangered, others that are extinct, and some that are a returning species. This book has a lot of information in it and the illustrations really help keep the reader engaged. Also gives good information on what we can do to help endangered

In this book Steve Jenkins features twenty-eight animal species that are almost gone, gone forever, or coming back. Each page has a stunning illustration and a paragraph about the animal, its habitat, and reasons for the animal's decline in numbers. The back of the book (inside the back cover)

includes a map of the world with numbers so that you can see where in the world each animal is from.

Endangered species from around the world, with beautiful imagery in Jenkins' cut paper signature style illustration. Tells amount left living, and why they have been eradicated (usually human development or hunting). The importance of losing these animals in the scheme of the entire food chain and

ecosystem. "Every living thing is connected to many other living things, often in ways we don't understand or even suspect. And once an animal is gone it can never come back."
