I can remember really enjoying this book as a kid. It would be a great book to read to a class if you know one of your students is going to be a big brother/sister.

This book was clearly written in a different time. Apparently, the only warning that Little Critter had that he was getting a new sister was on the *day she came home*. That's not realistic to how most children today are raised!

It does show a normal, if somewhat idealized reaction to a new baby -

Little Critter can't show her his favorite toys, but he *can* let her pull his finger.

I was a little disappointed to see the presumably newborn baby left alone in a crib with a bottle - my nieces were always held when fed.

This is another of my favorite new baby books if you don't mind series books. The book goes throw all the things Little Critter and his brother will do together, and then the last page shows a baby on a blanket and says "as soon as he grows up"

This was a cute book that showed the importance of family and siblings. I think that children of the younger elementary age would really enjoy this book and could be used to lead into the discussion of who has siblings. This book also shows children ideas of how they can play with their siblings.

K-1st. Easy to read. Talks about what you can do with a new baby because baby can't do the same as older children

Little Critter is going to be a big brother! Dad said you have a new sister and she is coming home today. Little Critter finds that this new sister cries a lot. His new sister takes some adjusting and getting used to. But in the end Little Critter thinks that his new baby sister is worth it.

Wonderful book that shares the repsonsiblities of a big brother or big sister. The New Baby can help students who might have new baby siblings on the way understand what to do when their new sibling comes home.

This is a great book to teach students about the main characters of a book. This book is appropriate for students to read in 1st grade. It is appropriate for a read aloud in kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades.

A perfect book for my family, which has just had a new addition as well. My oldest daughter is only two, so I appreciate stories that are at her level. The story is concise and funny. As with other books in this series, Mayer really captures a young child's perspective in this book. I love when

Little Critter asks what a baby can actually do. The story is sweet and the illustrations are cute. I feel like my review of every Little Critter book is the same, but I love them all equally, I guess. This is another great one.

In this well-loved Little Critter picture book, our funny young hero has to get used to a new baby sister. What a problem. The baby doesn't pay attention when Little Critter reads to her. She cries when he makes silly faces. And she can't understand the jokes he tells. It's seems like an impossible

task, but Little Critter finally figures out what you CAN do with a new baby -- and becomes a very good brother.

A new baby arrived in the family which became a problem with the little boy. He did not want to share his mom with the baby.

Summary-Little Critter gets a new baby sister. He doesn't understand why the baby won't pay attention to anything he does and gets frustrated when she won't laugh at his jokes or anything. Eventually, Little Critter figures out what he actually can do with a new baby and turns out to be a great big

brother.
Personal Reaction-This book explains easily and perfectly to a little kid whose life is changing and who is about to get a new baby brother or sister. I read this to my son when he was about a year old for the first time to help transition him into getting a new baby brother in his life. Also several times when the baby was born because he got jealous a lot. This book seemed to help a ton because he understood quickly. It reassured Samuel that he would lose any love or attention from Mommy and Daddy.
Classroom Extension-Have a classroom discussion about having a new baby brother or sister, or both! Kids with younger sibling can share their experiences and advice with the others.

Talk about the new baby come to the family.

A humorous look at becoming a big brother to a noisy, smelly baby. The illustrations are laugh-inducing, and the words describe the situation perfectly.
