Clements's... concise yet conversational text and accurate drawings focus on some 60 inventions that have greatly influenced civilization, at the same time spotlighting hundreds of other intriguing discoveries and events. Evidence of the author's fastidious research fills this paper-over-board

volume's colorful spreads, each of which is packed with informative sidebars, spot art (much of it accompanied by humorous asides) and an illustrated timeline that helps place the inventions in historical context. .... An introductory note acknowledges that... "many major inventions are associated with European men"; Clements, however, includes notes on the work of selected women and minority members. Her edifying book concludes with an extensive illustrated glossary.

This book is about coutless inventors overtime. There are pictures, facts, side stories, and little comics on every inventor throughout the book. This book covers inventors such as, Galileo Galilei, Issac Newton, Alfred Noble, Archimedes, and many others. They cover invetors from the earliest times

recored to present day. I like this book, but i do feel like the information is scattered everywhere. I feel it would be hard to read as a whole because there are so many side stories and pop ups that it takes you off track of the inventors story. On the other hand, this would also be a good book to do a class project on where all the student pick an inventor and do a project on them.

In my opinion, I think this is a good children's book. I like that the biographies include inventors from around the world, just not from America. It includes Archimedes from Italy and Gutenberg from Germany, which is adds to the education of the book and multiculturalism. I also like the

biographies. They are detailed, but are not very long or too difficult to read. The words are simple enough for older elementary students, while still appealing to their interests and grade level. The message of this book is to strive for greatness.
