Ruth Heller incorporates her artistry into the explanation of adverbs in Up, Up, and Away. There is a lot of information in this book so I don't think this is a book I would hand to kids when they were just learning about adverbs. I may turn it into an interactive read-aloud or break the book up

into pages and somehow have the children come up with ways to represent this book's key ideas. Adverbs are often something kids have a hard time catching onto, but I think that if they have resources like this book at their fingertips they will get a unique introduction to the topic and it may stick more than an informational text would. The book began with a clear statement of a grammatical focus along with its definition. At the end of the book there are teaching tips.
